As owner of Scott’s Taxidermy in Exeter, Mo., Odenbrett has seen plenty of bucks that are big by local standards. “Last year I took three or four bucks in the 160- to 170-class range at the shop, which is pretty good for Barry County,” he says.
Scott Odenbrett owns his own taxidermy shop in Exeter, Missouri and has seen his share of big bucks. During muzzleloader season last December, he thought he had a 28-pointer to call his own, but his shot glanced off a branch and only took off a piece of his antler. Steve Hill got the story of how Odenbrett got a second chance, and succeeded, in taking the same buck this year with a bow.

Props to you, Good job.
I like Scott in picture 23
What a deer. Well done.
Nice buck!
BTW it's "hollow", although it is pronounced "holler" here in the south.
Look how much it grew in one year! Holy smokes.... The antler he shot off is clearly a great deal smaller than when he harvested the buck.
That buck grew a lot in one year. Dang, before I read the caption I thought maybe it was a shed from a few years earlier.
Thats ridiculous.
WOW, WHAT A STORY AND THE PICTURES ARE INCREDIBLE
THAT IS WHAT HUNTING IS ALL ABOUT...
SOME DAY CAME SUDDENLY AND WILL BE ONE NEVER FORGOTTEN...CONGRATULATIONS
WOW! I think I would have a coronary if I saw that deer come under my stand. Congratulations, Scott!
nice deer how many points
shooting that antler off probably feels a whole lot luckier now than it did then im sure. The palmation is crazy on this deer the whole rack flows together with it amazing. Congrats scott should be extra fun to work on this guy. personaly Id get a full body mount and park it in my living room lol.
Amazing buck Scott. I have hunted SW MO for 30 yrs and truly appreciate what you have here! I think you nailed the point that crop production may have played a role. I went dove hunting this year near Exeter and couldn't believe how much more crop production there was, especially corn. congrats!
HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thats an amazing deer. how often do you get two chances at the same one?!!! Congrats man!!
If that buck weighs 150 lbs, how much do the antlers weigh????? Is there a science on whitetail horn growth to justify why such a lightweight would carry such a big rack and other huge-bodied deer carry rinky-dink racks?
Amazing buck!!!!! Congrats!!
shs teach It has to do with nutrition and gentics both of which fall under biology i belive. Body size has some gentic fetures as deer in colder temps need more mass to maintian heat in winter and have built this addaptation. Large buck body with rinky dink rack may be poor nutrition in the antler growing time of the year. Antler is infact a majority excess protien.
wow that is a great deer. congrats Must have sure been eating well.
Congrats man thats awesome. I'll have to come see it sometime, mayb when I get another big one you can mount it for me
I live only about 30 miles from Exeter and I still cant believe that there are deer this big in our neck of the woods. Nice Job
how does ONE person take "3 or 4 deer in one season" LEGALLY, as noted in the 1st paragraph of this article???? Im disgusted.....(from NEW YORK)
