For a cheap, yet effective, bobber for light-tackle fishing, use a foam earplug. Just thread the hook through and slide it to the desired position on the line. You can make it a slip bobber by inserting a length of plastic coffee stirrer. --David Kretzschmar, Highland Lakes, N.J.
Some of the best hunting and fishing tips that appear in Field & Stream every month don't come from the editors or writers at the magazine. They come from you, the readers. We get so many good tip submissions, in fact, that it's sometimes tough to select the winners for our "Reader Tips" section. But there was never any doubt about the tips in this gallery.
If you have a good Reader Tip for the magazine, e-mail it to fsletters@bonniercorp.com, or post it on The Tip Board. If it appears in the magazine, we'll send you some great outdoor gear—free!

Great suggestion, but, in case you don't have a dime handy or don't want to go through a balancing act to keep it in place. You can do as my Grandpa taught me over sixty years ago, USE PIECE OF WHITE CLOTH OR PAPER. In the woods, in a tight whithout a dime, a piece of cloth of paper, a leaf with a shiney side will work just fine.
Whatever you do DON'T GET THE JUICE BOXES MIXED UP!!!!!
I made a turkey sling (item 78) for myself with a little shed that I found and a piece of rawhide. It works very well for those long walks out and it looks cool too
The bungee-balls (#7) also work GREAT for taming those pesky Christmas light strings, too!!
i remember trying to find things to set my pole up against when i shore fished. this is a good idea for when you get older, you have a cane and a rod holder.
After you freshen up a rack with the wood stain try a clear coat spray, it keeps them from looking dull and bleaching out.
Any gear you tag with fluorescent orange or yellow tape will show up really brightly in Blue LED light. I have found my keys in a dark soccer field.
Nice idea.
Stay dry while camping in a down pour. Place your ground cover inside your tent rather than under the tent. We use a 4mil. plastic sheet that goes up the inside wall about 4" to keep any items inside from touching the sides. This trick has worked for our family for years in the meanest weather.
Ifyou walk as much as I do while hunting, buy a pair ofqueen size knee high womens hose. No blisters and boots slip off and off with ease
To make a weedless hook I take a rubber band and tie it on the fishing line just above the hook. Then, stretch the band and put it on the barbless side of the hook. This will let the hook prevent weeds and the fish will bite just the same.
Some great ideas here. If you use the turkey sling idea make sure to tie some blaze orange survey tape around the head and body so you don't invite a shotgun blast from another hunter!
