Don't know that I'd be real comfortable hunting within sight of another hunter where we could both shoot at the same deer at the same time. Kudos to the guys for finding a good solution and not fighting over the deer, though. Amazing buck.

That is a remarkable buck. Very smart by those 2 to not ruin a lifetime of friendship over a deer. Most people would sit there and argue for years and never reach common ground. Makes a great mantle piece!

Awesome buck! Awesome story too. Greed can ruin relationships and the sport of hunting if we're not careful. It is nice to see a buck that insane go to a couple of guys with their heads on staight.

so much for all the negative crap we hear about young people...there ARE young people involved in hunting(and other outdoor activities) and they are NOT all selfish and self centered...great story...my son, both daughters, son-in laws and grandkids all hunt, fish and shoot, it keeps us spending quality time together

Good on them for handling it like men and not getting into a fight over it. As far as I can tell, they have one tag left between them so they can get back out there and get another deer.

Reminds of the biblical story of the 2 women fighting over the same baby. The wise judge, in order to find out who the real mother was, said ok we'll cut him in half! Now wouldn't that be a shame if this buck was split down the middle? haha.

Additional Info

The friendship between Kellen Meyer and Jordan Owens of Seward County, Nebraska, which began in grade school, would most likely have hit a serious rough patch if either hunter had been a lesser person. When they both scored shots that brought down this high-mass, 228 B&C nontypical whitetail buck, the hunters decided to share their success. Steve Hill got the story of how these lifelong friends handled what may be the most unusual success story of the season.
