Hedl started his two-week bowhunting trip on Oct. 21, 2011 with an 18-1/2 hour drive from Pennsylvania to Buffalo County, WI. After he settled in, Hedl checked his equipment and made his way to a stand that had seen plenty of action in past years.
Bill Hedl, 44, of Pennsylvania headed to Wisconsin’s famed Buffalo County for his annual bowhunting trip with friends. He spent a majority of the time patiently waiting on his tree stand, passing up shots on does and small bucks. Hedl was waiting for a trophy buck and he finally got a chance almost two weeks into his hunt. Here is his story.

A long drive but it was worth it huh?!
Wow, nice frontal view. Hey, great frontal view. Swell view of the front. And that's the front view huh? And now a view of the front. Now, the front....and the front...and the front...now the front....and the front.....
Nice deer by the way.
I don't understand what makes this deer a nontypical. It looks pretty normal to me. It must be all the junk around the brow tines.
how about next time you stay in Pennsylvania and shoot your own bucks? I find it frustrating seeing stories of out-of-state hunters coming to my state and shoot huge deer here. Maybe I'm just jealous...
wischneider- Don't forget that the dude spent $180 for an out-of-state license, and he spent money that helped the local economy. I was born and raised in Waukesha Co, own land with my family in Lincoln Co, and I routinely spend upwards of $400 per year in November so I can sit in a stand and listen to the quiet. I almost never get a deer. Just be proud that you live in a state that is the greatest deer hunting state in the union. And bravo to the fine gentleman from Penn on his giant buck. They're all special, but the really big ones are extra special.

Sorry for the double post.
I agree with the Wischneider comment. I bet (KNOW) there are nice deer in pennsylvania, hunt there! Or become a land owner and PAY taxes, work the ground, fix fence etc. I really dont care what out of state hunters pay. Is that really what its about?? I'm a landowner, a hunter, and hold a fulltime job and let me say it gets a little frustrating when I come home from working all day to go get in my stand and find some out of state hunter already in it! Bottom Line Money WILL NOT buy my property's wildlife.
It is more about the love of the sport. Mike everyone works hard for a living, and that is what makes tromping through the woods for peace ... and a piece ... the sweet spot. Chill man.
@ Bill, great shot. You earned it. The look on your face is priceless. Congratulations. How long have you been bow hunting in Buffalo County?
Thank you ncphotogirl, still was in shock. lol I have been hunting Wi for the last 6 years. All the out of stater stuff does not bother me, most years I hunt 5 different states. Those complaining must lead sheltered lifes. I feel bad that they have not experienced what other states have to offer. Im just an ordinarry guy with a regular job who saves his vacation time to hunt.If they want to be mad at someone they should start with the so called celebrity hunters who get preferential treatment because of there so called status in the industry!!! Don't be mad at someone who spends upwards of 40 days a year chasing deer, and still works a full time job!!! Thanks again for your positive feedback, much appreciated.
Bill, Congratulations!! Glad you took such a nice one!! Human nature is a funny thing. Deer envy is something most hardworking deerhunters experience from time to time in their hunting careers. Too bad some people can't just congratulate a fellow hunter for for his achievement.
Keep working hard and shooting straight!
to pfettig77 As a MN Man I would have to say it's non-typical because it's from Wisconsin. I know this first hand as my no good brother in laws live there LOL Just kidding, great deer, great achievement. Several years ago I made it to the shed hunters association in Lyndon Station WI saw several huge racks, so there are more out there boys.
Nice job keep on keepin on
Cool Buck
Joe Natske is rite, I also live in wis. and the licence sales help emensly
Great buck tho
srry for the 2 posts
very nice buck, congrats.
nice keep on keepin on
Anyone else notice that the buck got moved from - woods - to corn - to food plot for pictures?
ya and that is an amazing deer congrats
Very nice buck, to bad he had to spend $2500-$4000 to hunt. Pennsylvania has great deer. You should stay there and learn how to find them instead of paying someone to get you one. My four 150/160 class deer, taken in 4 different locations, I earned by scouting, getting permission and doing things the ol'fashion way. Helping farmers with spliting wood, mending fences, sharing venison with them and earning there respect. Being like most middle class 60 hr work week, father, grandfather. I cannot afford your luxary. But still very nice buck. By the way, I hunted WI for almost 35yrs before moving away. Have not been back to hunt in 10 years.
Bill,
Very nice buck in any book! I didn't see a date on your score sheet for B&C record so when was it scored? I'm waiting for a offical measurement on my typical 13 point with Pope & Young. I was told they have a 60 day delay to allow for shrinkage, but plan on doing B&C also.
Again, outstanding Buck congrats
