Obsessed With Catching a 10-Plus-Pounder?
Rig up a 6-inch redtail chub. No, you won't catch as many fish on this behemoth walleye bait. But you may well catch a behemoth walleye, especially in the fall.
The Rig: On a slip-sinker rig, pierce the chub through the lips or behind the dorsal fin with a 1/0 or 2/0 hook. Drift along steep breaklines, fishing the bait vertically below the boat.

I really enjoyed this post, great info and pictures to show a young angler bait rigging techniques. I had my nephew look at this and he really liked it
Great article. it's amazing how many different fish can be caught on a grasshopper in the summer.
good article!
When in canada the guide said to hook a leech in the tail so that it won't ball up on the hook.
great article! being one who is just getting back into fishing this shows me alot of what other more experienced anglers told me without actually showing me. thanks alot for the info and the great illustrations.
Great stuff f&s, sometimes we forget that the american nightcrawler has caught more trout, bass and walleyes than any other method.
Perfect article for my 6 yr. old. The pictures really help explain things to a young mind. Now he can't wait until spring.
Good stuff here. My 9 year old son and I busted out the tackle boxes and experimented with the examples provided. We are however having difficulty mastering the Texas Rig. We Have seen pictures along with already assembled soft plastics in stores. I have yet to met anyone who prefers them. We understand the Line Weight and hook concept but have trouble connecting the dots. If anyone can help we by referencing or providing a Step by step instruction we would appreciate you help
At the risk of sounding foolish I cannot for the life of me figure out what the 2 parallel lines intersecting the fishing line are supposed to represent. Can anyone fill me in on this? Aside from me not knowing that this is a great article!
this is a great article
Great stuff...Glad I am a subscriber. Every Fisherman needs "Live Bait Knowledge. Most of us have forgotten that important component of Fishing! Please keep the "HOW TO" Articles coming
To jtheid28, the parallel lines represent a variable length of line between hook and bobber.
AWESOME! I learned some new rigs and I'm in my 30s!
Good article and could be very helpful to a beginer that is just getting into fishing as a hobby.
Great article! Its nice to see live bait getting some recognition.
