Catch crayfish for fall trout and bass
Crayfish are the best fall bait for many fish, especially smallmouths. Eighty percent of their diet consists of these crustaceans. Catch them in a minnow trap that you've baited with bacon or oily cat food, and then break off their claws. For largemouth and smallmouth bass, drop medium-size crayfish over logs or rocky bottoms. For trout, throw smaller specimens where wind-driven waves wash bait out of rocky shallows.
