Not seeing this used on the TV Series "Survivor" is how I know the show is either rigged or contestants are screened to make sure they don't know jack about survival.

Every season I've watched they are on the water and could have done this or several other similar things.

For the record, unless the "trap" is a deadfall design (Apache & others) that uses a rock or log to kill (crush) they are not "instant kill" devices. Snares kill by strangulation - not exactly fast or instant by any means. When you're starving, humane thoughts & actions go away real quick!!!

Good traps. Reminds me of my younger days. For the dead fall, however, I'd use a figure four trigger. Ask an old-timer how to make one.

You can use a variation of this snare to make an almost instant kill if you attach it to a peice of stick shaped like a y. Tie the y with the snare attached to it with a strong peice of twine to a springy pole strong enough to completly lift a rabbit several feet off the ground.
Drive a peice of stick with a short peice of branch sticking out
on the side about 6 " below the end you are striking to drive it into the ground. Drive this peice into the ground in an approproiate
spot on your game trail (say rabbit). I like to use dead sticks and other materials to make a funnel on either side of the snare to help guide my prey into my trap.This stick is driven into the groung untill the short peice of branch is positioned to the right height so when you bend over the springy pole and hook the y with the snare on it to the stick at the branch, it keeps the pole bent and the snare corectly positioned in the game trail. The y hooks onto the branch and keeps the springy pole bent. It acts as a trigger. If this is done correctly when the rabbit gets into the snare by his neck and struggles, he releases the y from the branch peice and is snapped up into the air by the springy pole. A couple of advantages are : the rabbit cannot get any purchase and is much less likely to escape and the rabbit is now several feet off the ground reducing the chances of foxes/coyotes etc. finding and eating it. Of course this takes more time to design but if made corectly catches more rabbits. I usded this method with good sucess. In a survival circumstance, the extra effort
to make this pole snare setup is repaid by better chnces to catch food.
Rember you cannot survive for long periods on just a rabbit diet as rabbit does not have enough fat to sustain you for a long time without a seperate fat source in your diet. Try this-- it will work but don't wait untill you need to know how to do it-- practice before that point and if you need to use it-- you'll know how.

The spring snare in picture #2 would not require a monster oak branch and a pulley system. If you could pull a branch down to the required height with your bare hands and half to three quarters of your body weight, that should do the trick. This asssumes you have the notched trigger and everything else in place waiting for the branch. Just don't get your own head caught in the noose!
