Bull Elk in South Texas
I was deer hunting in South Texas and saw 2 cows and 1 young bull elk come out. We have never seen elk anywhere around the ranch that I hunt as they are not native to the South Texas region. It was very warm for a January afternoon, but the animals were moving. This elk had 22 inch spikes and weighed around 450 to 500 pounds on the hoof.
Just got lucky I guess.
Species:
Elk

awesome
So how do the regs work on that? Can you shoot an elk without a tag in Texas? Just sounds confusing.
Great story but I'm curious about the tags as well.
Elk are considered "Exotic" animals since they are non-native and landowners have introduced them to the state as Game. There is no bag or possession limits or closed season on exotic animals on private property.

Nice Pictures!!!
Here in utah a elk is normal daily.
WOW! here in Colorado we cant shoot them without tags. We ahve the largest Rocky Mountain Elk Herd in the world! and the bulls we shoot have to have a minimum of 4 points on one side or a six inch bro tine
