Strange fish is a perfect description of that odd...thing. Never heard of a lookdown fish, I guess I'll have to do some research.

Thanks! I had never heard of it either! I thought it was an angelfish at first, but it was pretty cool!

It's hard finding a good lady that likes to fish. Great catch!!

I am pretty sure that's an African Pompano. Notice the more rounded face and extremely long fins. A lookdown fish has a much sharper slope to its face and shorter fins.

Thanks! Do African Pompanos live off the coast of Florida? That's where I caught it, but I will look that up. Thank you!

If you ever get a chance to see lookdown's feeding you will notice that they swim upside down hence lookdown. They're good eating too just take the top fillet with no bones and you get lots of what we call blackened fish chips. The guy is right tho it has a shap down slopped face that one is rounded off

That is a young African pompano. The fins will get shorter as they get older. vtbluegrass is correct, Look down fish have a steeper slope of their head and have much shorter fins than a young african pompano.
