Man, I just can't wait!! Very little of the hay has been made in our area and my .220 Swift and I are chomping at the bit to get out there after the whistle pigs. Good shooting there, Keith. Please share some details about your equipment. Mine is a Ruger 77 in the aforementioned Swift with a 6-24 Tasco and a Harris bipod, shooting a 55 gr. Winchester Power Point ahead of a load of IMR 4064 around 3700 fps.
Sorry about that, Keith, you already shared that information with us previously. I'm getting senile, I guess. Attributed to not enough hunting and fishing.
Hi 007 and thanks.
My bipod is a rubber legged polecat, and is terrible in the sun. My next purchase will be a swivel Harris.
In addition to the Savage, I use a BSA 6-24, illuminated reticle, mil-dot scope.
I load Sierra 1455s (acetyl resin tipped, 55grain boat-tails) on top of IMR - 4895. I do not have a "chrony", but listed and calculated velocity for my load is 3320 fps.
I use Winchester brass, and CCI primers exclusively for the load I have worked up for my Savage.
Hi 007, again
I need to correct a statement I made about my bipod....the legs are telescoping aluminum with rubber feet. They connect, at the top, with some sort of rubber thing that gets hot and will let the rifle tip over if I do not keep my hand on it.
Also, I failed to mention that I have tweaked my C.O.A.L. a bit, putting the ogive of my Sierra's closer to the rifling.
I am looking forward to seeing some pictures from you and your son's competition!
Good hunting!
Hi Keith,
Found a picture of my son from '07 that might interest you and uploaded it. Good hunting!
