One in a billion shot!
That's right, one in a billion shot when I shot this 338 250 grain Nosler loaded at 2830ish fps out of my 338 Win Mag into a large block of ice and hit a crack perfectly catching the bullet
Species:
Other Big Game
Method:
Rifle
When: at 12:00 am
So, how far was that ice, and was it standing or running?
I aimed at the crack almost dead center in the block of ice 50 yards away figuring it would explode the ice block, instead it captured the bullet.
That does seem unusual. You would think the crack would make the ice weaker. I shot into the end of a cut log with a 30-06 at about the same yardage, and it split like it was struck by a maul. Your ice crack must have been just wide enough to capture that bullet. How deep was it into the ice? Just at the surface, or did you have break the ice to recover it?
