56" shovelnose/guitarfish
This fish took my pole over the edge of the pier and we had to use my roommate's line to snag it as it was just beginning to float out of reach. He fought the fish with his pole for 20 minutes and then I finally got my pole back to finish the fight for another 20 minutes. We had to use a pier gaff to get it onto the pier. The tail of this made some great steaks when pan-fried.

How cool? What are they like to eat?
It tasted a lot like scallops, but were a bit bigger. We cooked steaks about one inch thick and 4 inches in diameter.
I'm a cali girl: where on our coast did you find them?
Central Coast, just north of Pismo Beach. I've also seen some caught in Newport Beach as well
