Every March, countless surf rats trek to Asbury Park, NJ, to get their hands on custom wooden lures made by well-known builders, and to check out the newest basement plug-makers on the block. These plugs are purely a labor of love - some of these craftsmen churn out as few as 50 a year, all of which sell in the first hour of the show.
Both collectors' items and proven fish-catching creations, wooden lures are just as much a part of surf fishing's allure as iconic locations such as Montauk Point and Martha's Vineyard.
