In early November, Field & Stream's hyphenated editors--Editor-in-Chief Sid Evans and Editor-at-Large T. Edward Nickens--traveled to the capital of pheasant hunting in the American Midwest: the rolling farmscapes just west of Mitchell, South Dakota. For Evans, it was a chance to flee New York City and tromp in the dirt with his dad, John Evans. John's long-time friend Doug Jackson put the trip together. No one really knows why Nickens was there, but since he tagged along, we did ask him to take a few photos and write a line or two. Click through the slides at right for his report on the trip.
