Bow hunt! Too easy, you usually watch bucks for a long time when and IF you get a shot at them. Also if you bow hunt the same place you gun hunt you will probably see the same bucks. Also try a trail cam, I find that if I get a good look at a good buck on the screen then I don't pay as much attention to the horns just settle on the cross hairs and squeeeeeze.
You'll never get a good answer on this one. the correct answer is anything that you can accuratly shoot and I would recommend 25 caliber or above. I like a 300 or 338 win mag but I'm a sadist for recoil and it's way overkill for a lil ole whitetail

I would pick a 22-250, 243, or 308. I like the 308 for anything but they will all kill a 50 pound coyote. also as Beekeeper has said the 25-06 will do good too, the 308 is probably overkill but bullets are cheap and I'm kind of a one caliber/rifle guy, I think it makes you a better shooter.

Clay is right on and in more ways than one! The 25-06 that he recommends is an excellent round that will last the boy a lifetime. Also the remington 700 is the world wide choice for accurate firearms. If you want to buy the boy a rifle that will last a lifetime, hit everything he shoots at, and will work from the FL everglades to CO mountains then you have hit on the right bullet, right gun. Get him a 100 dollar shorter stock to go with it and he can in then turn pass it (the stock, possibly the gun) to his kids. It's a great gun (I may have said that before)

Beekeeper is right, you can turn out high quality loads for the price of "dove loads" at Wally World. However that is not what the question is, its is it worth it to reload if I shoot "every now and then" and I will go with another post, if you shoot less than 500 rounds a year then no its not worth it to save money. However if you want to do it as a hobby or something you are trying to get into so that you can START shooting more for cheap then by all means. I reload cause I shoot a 10gauge for ducks and steel at 25 dollars a box will break you!

No brainer there. I would do it yourself, Jeff makes a very good point as do the others, it will be something you will remeber for the rest of your life so if you can't do it or have any reservation about it call the vet or one of your friends that aren't as attached. The last thing you need to do it break down in front of your dog and then have to shoot it more than once. Painful and messy for the animal

Yes a Lab would be good, but you will have to work on the bird hunting skills. Not the retrieving but acutally holding and pointing, not something a Lab is known for. If you can get that down the retrieving won't be a problem. One thing you might think of is a cross breeding between pointer and Lab, it'll get the size down and might give him a different skill set. But the color would be odd. German Shorthair/Lab Mixes are getting popular, looks like a Chocolate Lab with some Bird dog sense.

More experienced and capable?? Yeah I'll give him that. :P 22-250 would not be enough gun for most people, even though they would shoot it more accuratly than their super magnum they've got now you have to be nearly surgical with shot placement, and due to low bullet weight the muzzle energy won't stay with it for longer shots. To sum it up unless you love tracking wounded deer stay in the 24-25s or above.
I think you should always have a few hundred per gun, deer rifles maybe only 40 or so but 223,308,45, 12 ga, 9mm etc you should have stocked year round. And yes it is getting hard to find a LOT of the bullets that I shoot at Wally World but they are out in town if you beat the bushes for them. Also use your online resources they will have more than anyone else. Midway is doing a good job of keeping ammo available.

OK FIRST AID NOT SURVIVAL KIT 2 rules of thought on this Altoid size can or 6x9 dayplanner size. Altoid first, Asprin, triple antibiotic, 2x3 bandages, bandaids, tweezers and a needle. for a dayplanner size go on EBay and search it. you can get a 200 piece set with anything you want. THAT'S ONLY FIRST AID For a survial kit your up to fanny pack size, and should think about food, shelter, fire and living for about 3 days. you can and will use stuff from your first aid kit for survival. Clay had a post about using your vasaline for a fire starter that I had never thought of, and you could always fish with a needle but I would add fish hooks. I also have some items that I just use for camp such as immodium, chapstick, sunscreen, more asprin, and all of my gause and tape because it won't go in a small kit. when I hunt I usually never get over 4 hours away from the truck or camp so you can wait to actually clean and dress that wound till you get back. That's just me and I'm a little paranoid when it comes to that, I have bought everyone in my family a vehicle first aid kit and keep them stocked at deer camp. NOTHING makes for a more miserable trip than diareha for about 3-4 days.

the simple way is to take paper towles or toilet paper and put it on every blood drop or 100 yards whichever is farther. there is no good way to get it out, a couple of things; waypoint with GPS, mark it on a map (you do have one don't you) The blessing and curse that I have here in AR is that most kills are either uphill or downhill. So you walk uphill to the nearest logging road and mark it then you take the truck,4wheeler,horse to the mark and drop off the hill

you will need a ground blind they make the stick ones or a half clam shell looking blind or you could always drag up trees or whatever. Generally deer are VERY hard to kill within bow range on the ground. I would also get a 3D leaf suit vs a ghillie, ghillies are usually rather hot and the strings will probably get caught in the bow string. Generally go green early season, then brown or bare bark like the hardwoods HD pattern. Good Luck!

I owned a Wyoming Skinner that had a T handle on it and a gut hook that worked pretty good. It had a really short blade that you could get around a deer pretty quick. The key to keeping a knife sharp is to stay out of the hair as much as possible. I think horseman308 hit it, but I will say this (and I'm probably wrong) their importance is dimminishing as bow speeds increase. 10 years ago when I was getting about 100 fps less out of my bow I know the deer can jump the arrow but with 300+ FPS it becomes very hard for the deer to duck/jump the shot. But yes I will take any advantage I can get when bow hunting. I think the best thing they do is take the vibration out of it. My Mathews is pretty quiet anyway.

Figure the brain box on a deer at about 4 inches give or take. Most rifles rise or fall that much in a 150 yard trajectory. I know everyone here is a super shooter but by the time you take that simple fact in and a few others like wind, and adrenalin that 4 inch is a pretty hard target to hit, especially when its moving. I mean seriously how many of you have seen a deer that isn't in constant motion?

If there is no caliber retriction I'd go with a rifle caliber in a hand gun barrel, 25-06, 308, or 30-30. I've got a 450 Marlin on my encore and I DON'T recommend that for the faint of heart.

I had one in 358 and loved it. I sold it like an idiot becasue shells were 2 bucks a pop. I now pay 5 or 6 for some of my guns.... The wood is better and the action is smooth like butter.

A lot of studies have been done on using the same rifle in a reduced caliber or round for practice shooting. It will truley improve accuracy, cheaply and will introduce the shooter to the fundamentals and intracacies of that particular rifle. Now that being said I'd rather have 2 Ruger 10-22s and 100 dollars worth of ammo to burn then pay 500 for a .22. :P

Beekeeper is right on, what you saw at Wally world was probably Biologic they sell a lot of it but you can do it easier and cheaper at the local Co-op Clover, peas, winter wheat, all good. Be sure to check the game laws in your area. Also if you have access to a 4 wheeler and an old box springs or chain link fence you can drag it off real quick and you will be ready to go in 30 minutes. You'd be surprised what fresh turned, clean dirt will produce.

That and Weatherby's powder mixture is nearly impossible to duplicate when you go to reload them which will put you doing compressed loads to get the same velocity as factory ammo. I also have a 257 (love it) and a 270 Weatherby. Unless you are looking for a semi-exotic or a nitch gun (378 or any of its offspring) then go with big red or green.

well the main thing here is you didn't mention what you planed on the main use for it. The best thing for towing is obviously some sort of diesel and if you want to 4 wheel then a little short wheel base Jeep or something. I primarily drive chevys and gmcs but I recently bought a dodge. It has less than 20000 miles on it so I am not an expert on it but my first truck was a dodge and I liked it couldn't kill it as a teenager so I went back. That and the unlimited lifetime warranty helps a lot. They are tough trucks.

WRONG WRONG WRONG. First of all THE INTRUDER is the one breaking the law. YOU are the one DEFENDING yourself and others. Most people will find it a justifiable shoot and not even bother with an autopsy but if the do there is a dead body filled with whatever you shoot him with and thats that. If you cut the guy in half then so be it. Dead men tell no tales! You probably will be sued in civil court which is for money not jail time. Just be propared, you'll loose a couple of grand defending youself but that's the way the system works, unless its just a crack head with no money then you will be alright. It sucks either way and I'm sorry, but the only people that really get sued are city or state officers that roll thier own. And that is only because it is worth a LOT of money to sue the state.

I will echo all the above but I didn't see this one. Most farmers will need help around the farm during the summer when you are out of school. A few weeks labor could get you a few months in the fall to hunt. I know it would work here. But like everyone else said get out and ask, ask your teachers at school, most of those shop guys and coaches know someone in the community that support youth hunters. Lastly, get involved in Ducks Unlimited, Quail forever, and some of the local clubs in your town. They always need people to help out with fundraisers and such and you will meet the people around you that are interested in the same things you are. Make a few friends and you'll get invited on hunts. Many hunters are just waiting for a young person to ask, you'd be surprised what a little energy and inititive on your part will get you.

Q:This is kind of random, but do you think a sniper rifle make a good hunting gun?
from Christian Emter on 01.27.09
24 Answers
No I don't think it would be a good hunting rifle although it would have its place. The reason people say it would be a good stand rifle is because due to the 24-26 inch bull barrels are rather heavy and unwieldy. I don't think that they would be good hunting rifles based on this; I had a Remington Sendero back in my younger days and it was HEAVY about a 12 pound gun. The 26 inch barrel would hang on every briar, limb, and vine in the woods and it balenced well forward of the action. So it was rather front heavy. After a few miles through the woods or a few hours on your shoulder you were done. Also most Sniper rifles of the Vietnam era had fixed 10x scopes which are too high for most deer hunting. Now I said all that to say this. If you stand hunt and take all your shots at 200 plus yards then yes the rifle would be fine. I have to walk to all my stands at least 2-300 yards and I usually walk a lot farther than that during a hunt. I refuse to carry a rifle that is over 8-9 pounds topped out. That's my $.02 worth

from hunter99 on 07.09.09

Well yeah common sense says take the rifle but if you're on a guided hunt (which most Africa hunts have to be) then you have a PH with a super magnum that is backing you up so you're not the only one with a weapon. That being said I'd take my bow.

Everyone has addressed the short game here so I'll take the other end. If you are shooting deer sized game at a max range of 200 yards then the gain you get on 8 and 9x is minimal. There is quite a bit of difference in most 2-7 and 3-9 scopes though. Look at your scope is it a 32mm vs a 40/44/50mm obj? Also lens coatings and quality might be lower on that scope, just depends on what kind it is. I would prefer that power for the job you described. I'd get a Leupold but other than that its wide open.

I would make that a wool blanket & throw in a wool sweater. I'd put it all in either heavey duty garbage bags (can be made into a poncho) or a 5 gallon bucket or two. you can carry water in the bucket or use it for other things. I would throw in about 5 55 gallon trash bags they come in handy and don't take up much space. 2 1 gallon ziplocks to keep my stuff dry and together and a half dozen power bars or something that will keep and is in a compact package. A good knife or 22 pistol will make things a lot easier in the food department also.

All good answers hunting to me is an escape. I get to get away from everything and witness Gods true miricle. I love being outdoors and I hate being surrounded where I can't see green. I have been in several big cities and always feel uncomfortable. I always need room to roam about. Also when I go hunting I frequently "forget" the cell phone or just turn it off. :)
Ok now I'll post it on the right question. We get up and cook at about 4-5 am and have sausages and eggs toast and coffee. I grab the toast and cram all the left overs between the bread and head out. If we sleep to late then I grab some bread and lunch meat and head out.

I'm going to disagree here with most and say go green. winter wheat, clover, peas, beans. Corn is great but I think there are better things out there that will last longer. also the crows and squirrils won't eat as much of them like they do corn. In short: Go Earlier, Go Farther, Stay Longer, and Hunt Harder than anyone else. If you go earlier and farther you can be in ahead of most hunters you can use them to push deer to you. I try to deer hunt like I turkey hunt. I get in about an hour before daylight and stay all day. you will be pleasantly surprised at daylight noon and dark when the other hunters are moving around and stirring deer, this works just like using dog but without the melody. I can't get the other hunters to bark for me! :) Be scent free, glass a lot and move slowly. Most people hunt too fast. Also if you have horses they work great and are better hunting partners than most people. you can see their ears and nostrils flare long before you will usually see the deer. Also they will get you further, faster, and quieter than walking and are better on harsh ground than 4 wheelers.

you've got to go ask in person. in the winter after the season closes will work best. offer some sort of compensation, either work, money or meat. you should be able to hunt unless the farmer actually hunts it himself. the least intrusive would be off season hunting like bow or muzzle loaders, because if the guy is going to hunt it will be with rifle. NEVER EVER DRIVE IN A WET FIELD, GET STUCK, OR LEAVE THE GATES OPEN! you will ruin it for yourself and everyone else.
I like the hardwoods HD or whatever, it really depends on where you hunt army BDUs work great for tree stands and are cheap. later season you'll want less green and more limbs, brown leaves etc.

I have never used them for cats or bears but I can still remember when it was legal for deer. Ok I will be buying the 308 soon, while I don't agree that is is a "magic" shape it is the most solid of any geometric out there. I don't know why this wasn't done prior to the fluteing but it's a first as far as I know. It takes half the weight of a bull barrel and puts in into a hunting weight barrel with a muzzle break!!! I gotta have one, I'm just waiting for the hype to die down. I love it that Remington came away from the "norm" and went with something different. If the trigger is worth a crap it should be a great shooting rifle!

Cool, Dry, and Dark. I have shot military ammo from the 60s and 70s it works. If you have to store it in something besides military ammo containers then PVC pipe works even better. Most Ammo will work well for 30-40 years if stored well, without dampness and temp controlled.
Handgun and shot gun are super easy. No triming. Rifle is a little harder as you have to trim the cases but that's not at all hard. As a matter of fact I tend to trim mine too short if I'm not paying attention. Anyone with time, patience and common sense can make good reloads, and its fun.

from kolbster on 02.08.09

off that list the 11-87 my little brother has shot his every year at both ducks and turkeys and has had NO problems in nearly 10 years. I shoot a 835 and like it fine. I also own a 935 that I have shot exactly 3 times I HATE IT. It won't shoot the 2 3/4 shells which is why I bought it. And lastly the 870 is probably the most popular pump shotgun out there so there is nothing wrong with it either Its up to you and if you like a pump or semi. Turkey hunting is a LOT of walking so I would try to trim the weight as much as possible, so I'd go with an 870 or 835.

THATS BS! take it to a gunsmith and get the stock measured and fitted to your arms. If you have a comparable gun take it to and have that gun copied to fit it. If nothing else get a recoil reducing device such as lead, mercury, or the kicks stock put on it You will NEVER OVERCOME PAIN BY PRACTICING.
Well yes it does both of the above, it redirects the gas that is headed out the end of the barrel (180 Degrees away from you) to about 45-90 perpendicular to the axis of the bore. since the escaping gas is no longer pushing back into your shoulder it reduces recoil around 50%. Problem is it also raises the noise level about the same amount.

It really depends on your AGE and how much you practice. a 20-30 year old can pull a 70 pound bow all day but us older guys usually drop down to 45-55 pounds and find how to get closer. there is no advantage to a higher draw weight. The extra pounds are only incrementally not exponentially, meaning the more you pull you guts out is only for a small gain. :( sorry.

The bait store or local dock will be the best way to get a quick intro for your area. As far as guides or whatever don't waste your time and money. Most store owners will show you what you need and even tell you where to go. My state has a Game and Fish website that gives weekly fishing reports that list things like location, whats biting, what they're biting etc. Its a great resource. You will need to respool all the reels if the line is very old, go with a 12 pound mono for simplicity. After that learn the knots. They are pretty easy and I have included a website that will show you how to tie fishing hunting and climbing knots as well as a lot of other stuff. Keep in mind camping often goes hand in hand with fishing. Have a great time CPT B http://www.animatedknots.com/index.php?LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com Also you might check around and see if your state has catch and release stocker pounds. They stock the ponds for kids and they'll be anywhere from a half pound up to about 3 pounds, bite anything, and will be fast and fun. It's taylor made for kids, if you can find one of thoses they'll remember that forever!

I've never been able to let it hang over a day. The weather here can still b 50-70 degrees even in NOV, Heck it was 70 yesterday (JAN) and we always have dogs around camp so I don't let it hang. I usually quarter it and put it in an ice cest for a day or two. Gotta be careful there too and change the water out. I had one rot on ice a few years ago, I was not a happy camper.

As for my I deer hunt from OCT to DEC and duck hunt from DEC till the season closes. Never got into turkey hunting so after that I'm out scouting or hog hunting, till the crappie start biteing.
Modified will work well if you'll wait till the get about 3 feet off the water. I also makes to dang woodies a little easier. :) Full if you can't get them to come in, but I really hate pass shooting ducks.

No they don't they have hyper alert 5 senses that make ours look like geriatrics. Seriously though think about it, you probably have a desk or a den that you are at everyday several hours a day. you can look at your desk, the chair, keyboard post its, pens whatever and know if someone has been at your desk. Deer are the same way, they just have a huge living room or office space and use their senses much better than we do

It happened to me and it was 100% my fault. I had been watching a group of three massive 8 points all bow season and had even missed a shot at dark. I went to deer camp Friday and hunted all day Saturday and didn't see anything so Sunday morning I left before daylight to go see if I'd see my monsters. Well I went by my uncles house got him up and headed that direction and I went to change coveralls. Well turns out I was a little late. I got there about 10 minutes after daylight and got to help clean two of the big boys. That's right my uncle who would have been sleeping if it weren't for me shot TWO of the deer I had been watching for months! Was I jelous? You bet. What'd I do and say? I shook his had told him that he did a great job and pulled out my knife and got to cleaning. I get to see those big boys on his wall everytime I got to his house and I'm glad that they got the respect and mounts that they deserve and I'm proud of myself for handling it as good as I did. You should try to avoid all contention among fellow hunters especially family, but in the end I consider us all family of sorts due to our dedication to the outdoors and common interests.

well to answer you question yes it is good enough but you should shoot off a sand bag or a bean bag and squees your shot. You shout be able to shoot into an inch or an inch and a half with a little practice... also change out your ammo with 4-5 premium brands your rifle will like one more than the others. Anyway good luck, shoot for about an inch and then you can extend your range out to 400. CPT B

Plus there is a meat cutter here that makes some great sausage so I will usually let him have the shoulders for sausage.

It's a matter of personal preference. A few no brainers, after a growth spurt, after shooting to where your draw weight is too light, after you know beyond guessing where that bow will hit and what the trajectory is. After you've completely worn out a few deer targets and the cams are about to fall off.... I know guys that upgrade every year, they are tourney shooters with corporate sponsors. You know I'll give Jim two things he was a truely magical hunter and a very gifted writer. Back in the 70s and 80s which was his heyday most of the big manufactures flat out lied about velocity. Most were shot out of 28-30 inch barrels and then sold with 22 inchers. The same is true today as well. BUT to echo the aboves I believe that most reloading manuals are coming closer to reality while the big ones are still promoting the "NEW KIDS" like they did 50-60 years ago. Most of the short mags, ulra mags, super short mags will only duplicae or marginally improve upon a 50 year old cartrige. The manufactures are only trying to sell guns here. Hell they need to sell stuff just like everyone else. Don't blame them, I bought into the WSMs and WSSMs and some are better but most are not, but it does sell guns. CB

All of the above are correct. The only thing I can add is check in with the boat dock. In 5 minutes those guys can tell you where, when, and what they're biting on. Other than that I go out and look at the shore line, fish around docks tree tops, weed beds etc. I try to visualize what it will look like 15-20 feet out. Other than that you can buy a map as Big O says if you plan on fishing that place a lot. Another thing that helps is developing a click or group that fishes every weekend, we pass info back and forth all the time. I know guys this time of year that take their boats to work and don't make it home till after dark. (Wives very moody this time of year)

IMHO I think your wasting your money when you put all that on your clothes, soap shower, then you dry off with a fabric sofend towel, walk through your glade plugins house, get in your truck which will either smell like smoke, exhuast, or McDonalds french fries. How do you ever think an anti could ever work? You probably wear the same hunting boots that you wore when you filled up your truck at the gas station and so on and so on. yes there is the NRA has a grading system and if you will get the Blue Book of gun values from about 3-4 years ago it has color photos and goes into detail about what quailifies for 98,95,90,80 and so on. Its the one that has a grey cover on it and I believe a luger. I could be wrong about the gun but I know its Grey and its not the newest one, although it may have a section that explains it too. Unless you are an avid collector and grade a lot of guns most people can't tell the difference in 90%+ guns.

HA I'm going to be the odd ball again and say....Drum roll please! Arkansas. Small game rabbit, squirrel, hogs, coyotes, Large game Deer, Black Bear, Elk. Game birds UH HELLO STUTGART IS THE DUCK CAPITAL OF THE WORLD! Turkeys, Dove, Qauil. we've even got gators and a few cats even though theres no season for them. I know I'm forgetting some. That's diversity, not exotics. :P I do wish we had Browns, Moose and Wolves but you can't have it all. Oh yeah the fishing here is great too. but don't get me wrong I wouldn't ever turn down a trip to either Alaska or Montanna!

Del got it right, pointers and retreivers have to point and hold until the hunter can get in position to make the shot, if the dog doesn't hold then he will flush birds before the shooter gets into gun range. Beagles are miniature hounds which are trained and bred to chase game and trail up game that is either cold trails or wounded (blood trail) they don't "work" like bird dogs, which often work off of both audible and hand signals. So to answer you question I would say bird dogs are called "Gun Dogs" because they have to work so closely to the hunter and are shot over often. While either one that is gunshy will not make a great hunting dog either way. I've had to completly case my gun and put it in the truck to go catch gun shy dogs.
I'd find a girl that owned a gun store!!! I think that'd be great and she'd always be working during hunting seasons!

Best gun for the dollar would be a Savage bolt gun. depending on how close you get to the action in hog hunting you might want something with a little faster follow up. one of the new Marlins in 308 or 338 Marlin would be a good choice for fast follow ups and shots out to 200-250. I have a Marlin guide gun in 45-70 which is overkill on most anything and fairly short range 150-200 yards max (and yes I know buff hunters shot them a lot farther but I don't shoot animals the size of Hondas :)) Just my $.02
Bow Tech or Mathews would get my vote.

the quick and easy are coat hangers, toilet paper dispensers, and chandelleers. the longer are coffee tables (just the centerpieces) lamps, basically anything you can do with wood you can do with antlers. (within reason, don't frame your house!) :)

no don't cut off the needles the will fall off eventually and small bait fish can use them for cover from larger fish. You can cut holes in the trees but they will use it either way.
You take the same risks at a gun show that you take buying any used gun from someone you don't know. Most people at gun shows are caring and customer oriented but some will try to pass off junk too. I'd say its less than 5% but I have seen a few, and mostly they are the guys that are pushing AKs, Cheap shotguns and just off the wall stuff. Most of the guys with tables full of Brownings and nice guns aren't going to screw you because the do repeat business either at their house or store. the "Army Surplus tables are the ones to beware of. Buyer beware but usually you'll be alright 95% of the time. See if the guy owns a store or shop near you (usually has an address on Bill of Sale) and buy local if you can.

I love it, I heard about it on talk radio last week and fully support it. The Feds should stay out of states rights. They only have the power as mentioned above to declare war, set taxes, etc etc. I really think they should stay out of the states right to decide moral or ehics for a state. Look at Gay marrage for example. I am not a supporter but there are several states more liberal than the one I live in and if they can legalize that then I say let the state have the final say on guns, ammo, alcohol, and speed limits, just to name a few. It really ticks me off when we force 18 year olds to go to Iraq and can't even buy them a beer when they get back because its not legal for 3 more years. WHAT SAY YOU?

The Neanderthal was doing good things were well till one day they invented politics, they had a really smart one that they wanted to make leader. Well that went Ok so they kept it up for a few generations with no criteria or qualifications they just thought it was a good idea. This also created laws that made it illegal to kill off or banish the non productive members and actually sent them checks to thier caves to stay home and have baby lazy Neanderthals that also didn't work. Well after a couple of generations of this all the Neanderthals were lazy and thought that someone else should take care of them so H Sapiens came along and killed em off. Just my theory... :)

Yeah I tried to do that about a month ago and only 2 people on the site sent email addresses. I'd love to send photos and info on hunting down South and if I ever traveled I'd get info from guys in that state. I think these guys should create a map with states on it and people from that state that agree to list their addresses. It'd make out of state hunting and fishing a lot easier.

I wouldn't hunt out of a canoe if I was you that's a lot of weight and moving around, so unless your a pretty good hand with one as is your buddy then I'd go with a flat bottom. About a 16 foot would be good. That being said you can rig them with out riggers like some of the ocean going island folks use. I'd use metal pipe and at least a 4-6" pvc pipe.

Ok first tour in Iraq was in 03 when we were actually roading our vehicles from Kuwait all the way to Iraq. Well it took several days, we drove all day and into the night and made "rest stops" after midnight and kicked out a few hours later. Well we finally made it to our base in Iraq, where there were no quarters available (kind of a no room at the in) so we spent the first three days in Iraq camped out in a motor pool. Well we were camped out in and around our trucks and did I mention that that was the first time I experienced a rocket attack? Oh yeah what fun it was, we were just getting bedded down one evening when hodgie started lobing rockets in on our position. I've never seen so many cots get fliped and rifles sticking out from under HMMVES in my life!

The problem was a weak firing pin or spring, and as far as shooting it it would be safe and as long as you don't abuse it you won't hurt the collectors value much. A lot of those guns are still out there, I see those and the 88s pretty often at gunshows. If you still have the box and all then that will add to the value also. Bottom line is use it don't abuse it and memories will be just as valued as dollars.

Clay I personally think we have too many people who don't produce or add vaule to anything making too many desicions through votes. I know we have a hard time just getting people to go to the polls but I think there ought to be a higher criteria than just being 18. Its the main complaint a lot of people have you have generations of people here that have made sweat and blood investments in this country through family farms and business that are being taxed out of existence or have their products "outsourced" to some third world country where people are forced to work for 89 cents an hour just so we can wear the newest shiney shoes and clothes. And if you don't believe that look at the tags on some of Carhartts stuff(or whatever brand you have on), it made me sick. I say the first step is to protect our interests here in the States before we send anything outside our borders. If you can't support, educate, and employ your own population I don't know how or why we would do it for someone else.
Clay that is the most unscientfic answer you've ever gave! The 25-06 is an excellent cartridfe from deer to coyotes to elk. It shoots flat, it kills and it out preforms most of the other 25s (althogh the 257 WBY still beats it) is economical to shoot and even Wally World carries it!) Its a good cartridge and one of the last ones I would ever sell if the sh93 hit the fan!

Beekeeper as you know I fish and run lines a lot, I have two stories, the first about a month ago when I was baiting a line I went up to a tree and started running the line. Well I carry about a two foot paddle with a notch on it as do most I know... Well when I pulled up to the tree I was looking more at the line than the tree but I heard the Branches above me for some reason and got to bat about a 2 foot cotton mouth out of the air as it jumped for the boat. Bad deal, but the second comes from one of my Dad's stories. Evidentally they were fishing for Crappie in Febuary when the temp was barely above 50 and the were fishing a downed tree when my Dad got poked a few times from what he assumed was a branch, when he turned around it was a Cotton Mouth striking him in the leather jacket he was wearing!!! Lucky guy else I might not be writing this now!!!

OK I'm obviously the low man on the pole here but I like a Zebco 33 for several reasons. Cheap, Dependable, and EASY to use. I've had bait casters and spent more time cleaning the mess up than fishing. Spinning reels are backwards for me so they're out. And I usually take someone with me that couldn't use the other two either so when they use my rod which always happen I don't have to give them a class on how to use them. Of course then my wife always makes fun of me for using kiddie reels! So that makes if fun too!

Go to eBay search survival/first aid and then go to their store. If you don't want to do that Search eBay, Midway, Natchezss, or Google it. You can find them fairly easily if you'll use the internet.
The fisherman gets wet. It has to do with visiblity two ways one is sunlight, no sun little vis. Muddy water, no vis. And it also lowers the water temp, which can put fish back in deeper water. (That mainly applies to lakes though)
Nothing at all wrong with a 7mm, 300 win mag, or a 30-06. However if you are going non magnum I'd get a 308. My Dad has one (also a great knock em down military cartrige Clay) and it's easy on the shoulder and more than capable of killing elk out to 250 yards.
