  • Injuries in the Wild

We had a guy at deer camp get 15 stitches from a chainsaw last weekend. I wasn't there but the nearest hospital is nearly an hour away! it was his thigh of course could have been real bad.. I feel a little better prepared though I got some of those blood stopper bandages and a stapler. I can at the very least stop arterial bleeding and close up the light wounds.
  • Obama's address to the nation

I don't think he is a bad guy I just wish he'd stop blameing Bush and get to leading. You can't run the country if your looking over your shoulder and blameing the other guy. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29689284/ MSN post where he bemoans Bush for leaving him the mess that he has "inherited" from the previous administration.
  • I'm tired of the blame Bush politics

Obama seems to love to point the finger at the other guy. Read the MSN post. Look Prez we understand things suck at the moment but we expect you to lead not blame Bush. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29689284/
  • Anyone disappointed with the ANSWERS blog?

I try to answer some of the lame ones but they get old you can tell its some kid in study hall just killing time. I really hate that. And to comment on the They're just new, When I started posting I went to page one and read from there, just like a book. That way I got a feel for who posts what, how often, and how credible I thought they were. I can tell you that there are some very intelligent people on here, Clay, Ish, Bee Keeper to name a few, and I wish I was half the outdoorsman that they are.
  • Injuries in the Wild

OH Lord, stay away from the chainsaw! Glad you're ok though.
  • soldiers & field and stream

I will tell you guys even though I regularly give them both a bunch of S@#$ It truely brought a smile to my face to be able read Phil and Dave while I was deployed. Those guys can really paint you a picture. It was truely a high point of my day to be able to read a review. Since I got back I have really gotten into the F&S website and if you've notice I try to answer every question that I know anything about. Its really my way of reconnecting with you guys because you are the baseline that I strive for not these liberals that are around us and the TV reporters can ALL KISS MY @$$! I love being among friends and hunters and I truely feel that if falls squarely on OUR shoulders to keep up our way of life. If we allow hunting and shooting to die out in our lifetime the we have only the men and women in the mirror to thank for that. I appreciate everyone fighting on that front also. CB
  • Question regarding ammo availability and prices

I will have to say that I blame my favorite websites for threatening a price increase around the first of the year. That and the elections created a real shortage for both guns and popular calibers. Now I am used to paying 4-5 dollars a shot in some of my exotics (33-378 and 50 BMG) but what I REALLY CAN'T STAND is when they jack up the old standbys, my 22-250, 308 and other ones becase the "premium bullets" are so much more expensive. Well they may be more than core locks or power points but if they were that much more expensive would it be so much cheaper to reload the same bullets? I can't say what cost ammo manufacturers so much these day, if its just inflation or what. But I'd guess maybe they like other businesses have over paid boards and CEOs and pay way to much in advertising and R&D that you and I have to pay for. Think about that one if you will.
  • Survival Water Bottle

Cost not including bottle will run you about 40 bucks. You can get kits on EBay also but I like the bottle concept becase as you said its easy to pack, shatter resistant and you can use it to drink or store water, which will be MUCH more important than food in a survival situation. Mine goes in a double bottle buttpack along with a fully stocked first aid kit, a 357, and another 32 OZ to hold water, handy little kit that'll keep you out of A LOT of bad situations. The same will also go in most backpacks that will allow you to carry warm clothes etc.
  • Survival Water Bottle

You are sooo much in luck I just put one together 3 days ago feel free to modify or change anything. Step one go to Wal-mart and buy the following Items: 14.99 survival kit in a clear plastic waterproof bag, waterproof match case 1.00, Magnesium fire starter, GoReady Hand sanitizer and GoReady Bug Spray. You can put 95% of the survival kit and other items in the Bottle I had to choose between the poncho and heat blanket, I chose the heat blanket because it is also waterproof plastic. I added a LED AA flashlight and extra battery. The rest is pretty much out of the survival kit which was pretty good. Contained a 12 hour glow stick, to bars fire starter, a basic first aid kit fishing kit, mirror, cotton line, safety pins and all kinds of other stuff, a compass, surveying tape.you can go a few other directions the bottle has about 4OZ left in it where you can put some water purification tabs, Beef/chicken bullion cubes, gatoraid pack or whatever. I started to build my own but you'll spend a lot more and not have as good a kit. Anyway hope this helps. Brad
  • Neck or behind the shoulder?

I shoot behind the shoulder for all the above reason and this additonal one, most people site in rifles to hit an inch or two high at 100 yards. If you mis calculate the range or forget to shoot low out to point blank then you are almost gaurunteeing a miss. I started out toing that early in the hunting career but stopped when I started shooting the magnums. Most if you sight in 2-3 inches high at 100 will be way high at 200 and still off at 300. You can't get accurate results without shooting point of aim point of impact at 100. It would take a long time to get into the physics of it but I screws up one of your G angles on balistic calculations. Sorry I got a littel nerdy there. but if you sight dead on at 100 then you can do neck shots out to 100 but further than that your chance of missing are going up substantually.
