Pulled from the story "No-B.S. Accuracy" in the July 2009 issue of Field & Stream, David E. Petzal presents a shooting course guaranteed to make you a better hunter.
In the September 2009 issue of Field & Stream, Keith McCafferty tested reader-submitted fire-starting tips for the survival column "Hot Stuff." One of those submitted tricks was starting a fire with a condom filled with water, using it to create a lens and concentrate sunlight. Though McCafferty had trouble getting it to work, this video proves it's possible. Note: F&S did not produce this video, nor is the gentleman featured in it a survival expert.
The Calm Before the Storm: On a brown bear hunt in Alaska, a hunter successfully takes a nice boar.
Then the You-Know-What Hits the Fan: Right after the boar goes down, a sow and her cub suddenly appear on top of a nearby sand dune, and the sow comes charging at the hunters “like a freight train.”
The Calm Before the Storm: I know we’ve all seen this one before, but I’d never seen this version of it. I always figured the victim, Lynn Chestnut, was attacked during a hunt. Wrong. Turns out he was actually trying to provoke an elk charge because he thought it’d make for a cool video clip to show his hunting buddies. And just how bad did he want to be charged? Bad enough that the doofus sprayed elk urine in his mouth as if it were a new flavor of Binaca.
