Steel/flint is probably the most reliable way. They also make magnesium and flint strips that light when you drag a knife across it. Look at Cabela's website for good fire-starters.

I have personally never shot this gun but I know its a beautiful quality gun, and everybody that does own one has nothing negative to say.

I would not use WD-40 for firearms unless I had little other choice. The "WD" stands for "water displacing," and WD-40 does that task well. That means it is good for hosing down and flushing out that duck gun that fell overboard, at least until you can get it home for a proper cleaning. However, WD-40 tends to gum and turn into a varnish with time. So WD-40 may be fine for an external wipe down, but it is potentially devastating to moving parts that require lubrication. In my experience, WD-40 has little, if any, lubricating properties, and is best left for its designed tasks.

I personally would pick the Winchester Super x-3 feild shotgun in 12 & 20 gauge.

Yes, coyotes do come to deer carcasses. Every year we throw out our carcasses at a gravel pit and the night after they always come in. Both guns will work I have killed a couple elk with a .270 but I would recommend bringing the .300 mag., and yes a 150 grain bullet would work but if you could I would go with a 180 grain. Really it isn't the size of the gun or grain of the bullet it all depends on your shot placement, but a bigger caliber and bullet does help.

Like Elmer Fudd said it isn't fair chase. Something most sportsman take pride in the fact that they harvest game from the "land" not the "farm". Me personally wouldn't do it, it takes the "hunt" out of hunting.

A melanistic coyote is supposed to be more rare than an albino coyote. But lately I have been seeing more and more 'black' ones, I do find this very odd, but I have no explanation for it.

Really Accubonds weight retention can't be beat, but the Ballistic tip seems to be as accurate and reliable as you can get. Nosler Accubond is a heavy tapered jacket bonded to a lead core for controlled expansion and VERY high weight retention. The original Ballistic tip delivers excellent long-range accuracy with reduced cross-wind drift. Expansion and penetration characteristics are either controlled or rapid, depending on the caliber.

Primos (Double Bull) Blinds and Ameristep blinds are the best blinds ever! These are quick and easy to set up. A blind allows you to be concealed in places you never could. I have shot most my animals out of my ameristep gound blind. My only suggestion is set the blind out a couple days before you hunt so the animals will get used to it being there. Good Luck!

haha My nephew is by far the most dangerous person I have hunted with. Last year we were driving in to a trail head to try to locate some rutting mule deer and as we were getting out of the truck he fired 3 shots from his semi-auto browning .270 through my floor board of my truck and oil pan. The next day I was waiting for him to return to the truck from our day hunt, it was pretty darn dark and all of a sudden I here gun shots go off. I walk up the trail (cautiously) and he was running down the trail all afraid saying he just shot a bear that was about 15 feet from him... it was a black stump.

In my opinion I feel FIxed-blade is the best choice. If you watch the video of Rage broadheads going through plywood you can see the blades not fully deploy until it gets through the plywood. With fixed blade it will maintain the same cutting diameter no matter what.

It is probably very possible, but I doubt it would. People here in Mt. & Idaho didn't really know what to expect and didn't put up a fight. I think people now realize that "re-introducing" wolves is not such a good thing.

I shot my biggest mule deer in the front chest and it dropped him in his tracks and I would definitely take this shot again if it presents himself. I was using a .270 win. and it wasn't a huge mess in the inside like I was expecting. I say take it if you get the chance.

I agree with WA Mtnhunter. Dont let a little water on the ground stop you from getting out there. Hunt as much as possible. It is true that water doesn't help tracking a deer. But if you make a nice shot you will have absolutely no problem. Good Luck.

YES! I use the "CAN", hardwoods grunter, and trophy grunter. I use these with complete confidence and I know they will do what I want.

I am a fan of Carry-Lite decoys they are very light-weight, easy to set up, and most importantly realistic looking. Wether it is a buck or a doe depends on the time of the year you plan on using it. In pre-rut when the bucks are establishing dominance a buck decoy works great. In the full-rut a doe decoy is one of the best attractants you can get. Good Luck.

Yep. I love hunting in the rain, it not only covers up some of your sound if its a light rain the big bucks seem to move almost every time.

Scouting is very important. Look for water, food, bedding areas, and travel areas between these. Really just figure out a spot that big buck will feel comfortable traveling and set up there.

My outlook on this is, if your going to eat it keep it, if your just out there to fish and be out there by all means throw them back.

My 17 Hmr is working very well for ground squirrels out to about 125 yards, and around 250-300 yards for coyotes.

Look at Gamo's line of pellet guns. They should have what your looking for.

My local taxidermist takes them and if it is a decent coat he will give me around $30 for it.

I personally never had this problem but my older brother has. He kept on following the bull for about 3 days and eventually was able to get a vital shot. From the sound of it it sounds the elk is pretty hurt/sick for it to be "hobbling pretty good and tongue hanging out" so it might be dead the next time you locate it, it takes alot for an elk to show discomfort. All you can do is do what you are doing and try to get another arrow into him. Good Luck.

I know for me scouting makes all the difference. The main thing you have to look for in fall in food sources, because this is all the bears are thinking about. I walk miles to find the thickest berry patches in the woods and it never fails. Look for old abandoned homesteads with fruit trees, berry patches, rock slides (they eat moths in rocks), and wetlands with abundant grass. I personally dont like to wait for the bear to come to me I normally glass and walk around until I stumble across one. Good Luck!

Coyotes are not very picky on calls. Like buckhunter said a piece of grass between your thumbs work great. I personally use mouth calls from Primos. With decoys it is the same way, they will come into anything that looks interesting. Mojo Decoys are the best I have ever used and they are very simple. Some of my buddies just hang a turkey feather off a stick in the ground and let the wind move it around, which seems to work they get just as much as I do...

If your string is in bad shape I would replace it to be safe and prevent injury to yourself and your bow. I use Bohning Seal-Tite Wax to keep my string in good shape it is definitely worth getting.

Great choice! I own two model 70's and they are great! I would recommend 150 grain for thin skinned/boned game like bear and deer. I would shoot 180 for elk, moose, etc.

Philbourjaily got it right on! They both are very nice and soft-recoiling. I personally like the X3 more than the Remington just simply because it seems more versatile.

G5 Montec is a very reliable & simple broadhead.

When I go Crappie fishing I use Live Minnows, Marabou Jigs, & Twister Tail Jigs. I always catch at least a dozen using one of these three baits.

If it is light rust use Hoppes solvent/rust remover. If it is really rusted and pitted I would suggest bringing it to your local gunsmith and he will know what to do...

I have shot my brothers Diamond Rock and I thought is was an alright bow, I really haven't heard anything about the Stud. I like the axle to axle and the IBO speed on the Rock.

Food, water, & bedding areas. If water is limited in your area than it is a simple thing finding deer, and like Steve said any kind of summer food sources will surly bring deer to them, just find trails leading from bed to food.

All I have ever used was Multi-pin sights and I can't think of one reason why I would change. If I were you I wouldn't get a single pin sight...

Non-Typical. I like to get a "one-of-a-kind" deer.

I went hunting in the Montana high country and after about 4 or 5 miles I found a pretty decent mule deer bedded down in some thick timber, so I got within 100 yds and I pulled the bolt back to put a bullet in the chamber and just happened to realize there wasn't bullets in my gun! So I tore through my back-pack looking for an overlooked bullet and there wasn't one to be found. So needless to say I had to watch the Mule deer slowly wander away.

The buck should be in the same general area. The big bucks will bed in what he feels is the least threatened area, if you feel thats the spot he probably will be there.

Hunting mule deer in the back-country that is the only way I do it. I very rarely spot-and-stock whitetail though...

I really dont think you can beat Ruger's .22 LR line. I have a couple of them and I wouldn't trade them for anything.

Do whatever you feel needs to be done, if there is a noticeable decrease in other fish species and you feel gar are to blame, throw 'em to shore!

Go to the range and start out at 50 yards and shoot enough shots to get a consistent group, and adjust the dials on the top and side of the scope to get it centered at 50 yards. After doing that do the same thing at 100 yards and keep doing the same until you have got it where you want it. Good Luck!

Moultree and Cuddeback are both very good brands and are VERY reliable. Stealth Cam is a good brand but don't buy the cheaper models they never work consistently, I know own a mid-price Stealth Cam and couldn't be happier.

The .410 shotgun is measured as a BORE and not a GAUGE (like all the others) because the barrel diameter is .410 inches.

I think the Idaho wolf hunting plans are great and I feel they are going about it the best way possible. The wolf populations that the Fish & Game are going off of this year has been proven to be inaccurate. They estimate (Mt. Fish and Game) 10% of the wolves in Idaho and Montana are not included in this years count. If some people dont report a downed wolf the population won't suffer at all, if 25% of the wolf population is shot this year it will be refilled with next years pups.

I have shot about 4 elk with a .270 and almost every single bear I have ever shot was with a .270, and like BlackWater said it was the top rated moose gun, unbelievably...

Its very hard telling what he would score (you can't see all of the points) but it looks like a decent deer. If I had to guess on then spread I would say 18" or 19", and if I had to guess on the score I would say mid-130's.

Its not contradictory at all, I live next to the Clark Fork River and there are both trout and pike in it. I always use chartreuse(yellow) size 6 blade spinners or minnows or minnow like rubber bait.

It should be that long of a wait, I would give it 2-3 weeks at the most.

I would start by going to a local sporting goods store and they should be able to take some measurements and tell you your draw length and what would be a good bow for you. If you have a very tight budget I would look at bows by PSE, Parker, or Diamond. Good Luck.

Check out G5's line of fixed blade broadheads you can't beat them, my favorite model is G5 Montec. As for mechanical broadheads you can't beat Rage. They are hands down the best I have ever shot.

If these thirteen environmental groups actually put a stop to this , they will be dealing with over 4,000 mad Idahoans, and even more in Montana. The state of Idaho set a quota of 220 wolf. What the environmental groups are saying is "If hunters harvest that many, the state’s population of wolves could drop almost 25%", which is true, BUT what they forget to mention is that the pups of the next year will replace about every single wolf shot in the '09 season. In the end we really don't have a say in things its all up to the state and we are just along for the ride...

Now days there are tons of people that practice quality deer management, and as a result of this more big bucks are seen and taken. I think the midwest holds the next record but there is no way of telling, the next record could be in Florida for all we know. lol But I would like to think I will get a shot at it in my little corner of Montana.

Anything is possible, there is absolutely no way to tell. I really haven't seen that many HUGE bucks come out of that particular state though.

I think for the money it is a very nice bow. The axle to axle is very short, which is a plus, and it shoots 320 fps, VERY nice. If you want a nice bow without breaking the bank, GET IT.

I would recommend any call from Primos. The Can works well but I would get a mouth call and take the time to learn how to use it effectively. Another call to use is rattling horns, they are very easy use, give 'em a try!

I would look into Winchester's Model 70 line. I would suggest a .300 win. mag. or a .325 win. short mag. I personally use the .325 and I love it and it really doesn't cost that much. Good Luck.

Hocks Noise Braker Filter Ear Plugs are all I have ever used for shooting they are inexpensive and work wonderfully. Try them out.

I personally Don't wear anything. But if I did I would wear Walkers Game Ear, they let quiet sounds in and keep loud sounds out.

It would work just fine. I know a 180 grain 300 WSM is for elk...
