The South Platte as it flows northeast from Denver is pretty good. There are also a surprising number of ducks that get into the pothole ponds on the irrigation systems of the ranches out that way. You'll have to ask permission or work with a guide who has a lease. The eastern plains are just prolific for geese. Huge flocks moving now. My favorite guide is John Hagen... one of the best callers I have ever heard, johnhagenoutdoors.com

Charley is on it... that's good. Here's an alternate: Throw the trout in foil. Put a dab of olive oil on the foil to reduce sticking. Slather that trout in Kraft Italian dressing before you tuck it in the foil. Maybe a dash of salt and pepper on the inside... maybe slice some lemon or an orange, and tuck it in the cavity. Wrap it tight in the foil, and like Charley says, go 10 minutes a side (provided the coals aren't too hot). Unwrap, and flake it onto crackers with capers and horseradish... or better yet, eat it for breakfast... a bit of trout... a bite of bacon... maybe an egg or two, over-easy... toast. Trout is always better in the morning. I don't know why, but it's true.
I personally like all Scott rods, and the A3 is a very good value, in my opinion. I fish a 4-wt.

Pearl.
That depends on how much whitewater you plan to float... and I assume you are talking about a one-man model. You don't want to float more than class 2 in these anyway. The high end model for bumpy water would be Outcast's Ferrari (yeah, they really call it that)... an extremely stable and durable boat. One step down from that is the Discovery series (also Outcast), which allows you to stand and cast. For the best/lowest price check out the Creek Company's ODC models, which are about half as much ($300-$700 rather than $1000-$1300). I have one, and it's fine for lakes and fairly flat rivers. But if you want a boat, for a boat-type river, you should pay the extra for the extra stability and durability. I've been happy with Outcast. My two cents. Hope it helps.
