Q:How old do you think a boy should be before you take him hunting?

I agree that it depends on maturity. I started going when I was 6 and carrying a gun when I was 9. When I start taking my son I have to expect that he still has a lot to learn about hunting and that my screw up my chances of getting anything....but having him with me and teaching him will be well worth it when he grows up a little.

I wouldnt suggest using gasoline....maybe diesel fuel. It would be safer to carry something dry like dryer lint....use it with some dry wood shavings and you will have a fire in no time.

Add to the above mentioned items a well stocked medical kit. All that other stuff doesnt really matter if your bleeding out.
Anything that you can get 90 grain or less bullets for will work. Hell, if your a reloader you can make 90gr. rounds for a .270 that will scream. Find something that you are comfortable with and happy hunting.

Jon boat hands down. Not that a canoe doesnt have its advantages, but a jon boat allows you to mount a small motor if you need to travel across a large amount of water. Based on the question...your going to need a motor.

The first thing I ask someone when I get in one of those conversations is if they have ever hunted and what type of experience they had if they have hunted. If it was a bad experience I try and explain that there isnt any bad hunting trips...just bad hunting buddies. Like you said, typically the "anti-gunner" has never hunted. Then I usually bring up some sort of ,intruder in your house, scenario and ask them if they trust in their local law inforcement enought to get there before said intruder kills you? I have actually converted a non gun owner into a gun owner doing this. Just have to break it down into its simplest form because the "anti's" are dumb.

Go to a bow local bow shop and ask if you can shoot a few different bows. If the bow doesnt feel good in your hands you wont ever be able to shoot it your best. I would definatly go with carbon arrows....pricy but will fly true and are really quiet. As for broadheads, there is a lot to take into account when picking one. Talk to the bow shop and they will hook you up.

Parachute cord aka 550 cord. This is the first year I forgot mine and I regretted it. 50 feet takes up almost no room in a pocket and you can build a heck of a harness for yourself and the deer. Not that dragging a big buck is easy but it beats trying to hold on with your hands.

Shut the borders up tighter than a nuns skirt I say. Then build a few gigantic factories on the border and put up housing and schools. They can come in as long as they work in the factory for 2 years for 8 hours a day and go to school for 4 hours a day. All classes will be taught in English. All profit from the factory will go toward paying for the housing and the school. Anyone trying to cross the border in another manor will be shot on sight...no questions asked.

You guys crack me up. Listen, we are all here for one reason. We enjoy the outdoors and all that mother nature has to offer us. I believe in one god but that doesnt mean that people dont have the right to believe whatever they want also. I sure as hell would hunt with almost any person on this website and wouldnt really give a damn if they had to sacrafice a goat before we could go. It seems funny to me that people are so eager to bash on what others think, do, and believe but hate it when others do that to them. I always think of PETA, Hippies, Activists as the types to critisize how others do things. Interesting topic none the less.

When we left Kuwait on a C-130 headed for Iraq I figured it would be a pretty calm flight, and it was until the desent started. The AF had started this thing that when they desend they do it withing a very small amount of space. This amounts to the longest roller coaster drop in the history of mankind. Anyhow, I was onboard with 20 or so Marines and one of them, as it was explained to me, gets car sick on a regular basis. His SGT informed him that if he got any amount of puke on him he would kick his ass. Well during this desent the poor guy looses his supper and I think every bit of it ended up on his SGT. Needless to say, my first 2 min on ground in Iraq was spent watching 2 puke covered Marines beat the crap out of each other. Kinda made me forget about where I was for a bit.

I think a lot of it has to do with the amount of adrenaline, or whatever animals have that compares, that gets dumped into their system when they are shot. The bigger the game, the less of an impact it has on the body so the system doesnt go into survival mode. Just my opinion. Great question.
