There are just some things in life that one can not do continuously.
Dakota Dan-
I notice in the second paragraph of your quotation that she did not say "Americans support this plan." That would be patently false. So she said something obviously true about what Americans support, but which has no resemblance to her bill.
I wear a Galco paddle holster to carry my Colt Detective Special, because of the "easy-on, easy-off" feature, which is important to people who prefer the cross-draw carry. But as with all easily removable holsters, there is the hazard that when attempting to draw the weapon, the wearer can unconsciously remove the holster with the gun under stress, from force of habit.
What I would like to know is which Justice has been assigned to write the majority opinion in the McDonald case. Aren't there ever any leaks out of that place?
I think Justice Roberts showed remarkable restraint and a lot of class in not lowering himself to the level of the President and the Democratic majority in Congress by quibbling over the issue.
He went quite far enough in addressing the troubling aspect of being subjected to boorish behavior while bound by protocol to sit as a captive audience surrounded by yahoos.
When a person reports a negative experience with a particular chain store,it is not helpful to hear from others who have not yet had a similar experience.
I think that people in the performing arts like Sean Penn are exploiting an additional perk from their profession. In addition to fame and fortune, he is grabbing free air time for his pet causes, eagerly adding to his fame, but unwittingly subtracting from his fortune.
Sourdough Dave-
My sentiment exactly.
Dakotah Dan-
Yes, that is a broad generalization, and I acknowledge that there are exceptions to the rule. Jon Voight, Gary Sinese, Patricia Heaton, Stephen Baldwin, Robert Davi, Dennis Hopper and Kelsey Grammer were closet conservatives until they came out publicly over the past few years.
There are rumors that Robert Downey Jr. is a closet Republican, but his publicist refuses to comment, saying, "RDJ does not comment on policical matters."
Mark Vafiades, president of the Hollywood Congress of Republicans, says, "If you come to an audition wearing a Bush or McCain button, the casting director will most likely pick another actor. Just being on a set you hear prople bashing Bush and the right, because they assume everyone agrees."
Andrew Klavan,a conservative author and screenwriter, said recently, "Sean Penn is out dancing with dictators, and no one gives him flak. Instead they give him Oscar nominations. Jon Voight may have some semblance of job security, but he still has to be careful about what he says."
Typical Hollywood type. They all think alike, and none of them think for themselves. Very trendy and easily led. Sean Penn can go public with his political beliefs secure in the knowledge that he will not lose any of his Hollywood friends. That is very telling. Most of us keep our politics to ourselves because we know that not everybody shares our views. He does not know that.
