  • Answer the Question, Win a Prize
    67

A simple question... and the best answer will win a Scientific Anglers fly line valued at $60.  I am the only (completely biased) judge, and as such, I'll try (barely) not to influence your answers (too much) with the way I ask the question:

I would much rather catch the Wild trout, it's a catch you really have to work for and the pure beauty of that fish would stand out more in my mind than the plain looking stocked fish. Being able to catch a wild fish means you went on an adventure and you accomplished something, you caught a native species in it's habitat and you had to work for it, it was not handed to you. Just like a high fence hunt compared to taking a wild white tail after a lengthy stalk, you accomplished something in the wild.

  • Chad Love: Snake Hoaxes and "Manly" Photos

The Internet is both boon and bane for the dissemination of knowledge. Sure, there's a whole world of information right there at your fingertips. Problem is, you have to wade through a whole world of crap to find it.

I work on computers as a side job and I have found some very strange stuff inside of computers, rats, roaches, spiders, etc. I have never found a snake, but I have found a snake skin in the computer, not suprising to find it in there, it's a warm spot and a snake can damn near fit into any space. Great Pics, I recieved lots of those in my email along with other pics, I can spot a lot of fakes because my degree is graphics and animation, specializing in photoshop, if you know what you are doing you can create some very realistic "fake" pics, but most people are sloppy and you can tell if you really look closely at the pics, usually the shadows give it away.

  • Cermele: Frogs Your Way
    15

One of my favorite things to do in August is pitch topwater frogs for largemouth. Though I know this works other times of year, those muggy August mornings have always coughed up the most memorable strikes for me around the pads. Now there are tons of frogs out there, but the RevereMaxx frogs shown below are pretty different from any I've seen. I shot this pic at ICAST a few weeks ago.

Those are pretty sweet looking, something different if it catches oure eyes, I am sure the fish will be curious

  • Single-Handed Casting Distance Record Crushed
    35

While we are on the topic of amazing accomplishments, I thought I'd pass this little bonus bulletin along...

Steve Rajeff of G. Loomis just broke the single hand fly cast distance record today at the American Casting Association's Nationals event in Toronto.

The cast went 243 feet, which broke Steve's own 236-foot record that has stood for 20 years.

Let me put that in perspective for all my Wolverine, and Buckeye, and Bulldog, and Tiger, and Longhorn, and (okay), even Irish friends who spend too much time watching college football like myself.

Impressive, I am new to fly fishing, but a cast of that distance is very impressive to say the least.

  • Benson, “Britain's Favourite Carp,” Goes Belly-Up
    8

    From The Evening Telegraph:

Today anglers and children around the country are mourning the loss of the 25-year-old common carp who passed away in the Kingfisher Lake near Peterborough on Wednesday.

Sad to see the big girl go, that is one large fish,

  • Hackney Tops Iaconelli In Forrest Wood Cup
    6

    From BassFan.com:

In the end, the Forrest Wood Cup came down to a battle between two of the biggest names in the sport – Greg "The Hack Attack" Hackney vs. Mike "Ike" Iaconelli. . . .

Great Battle between two accomplished anglers. Ike is one of those anglers who always makes a late charge, you can't count him out no matter how far down he is.

  • A Real Jaw-Dropper
    22

Every once in a while, I see a fish that just floors me...  leaves me bewildered, and lime green with envy.  This is one of those fish...

I got wind of it from guide and writer David Rose from Michigan.  Apparently guide Tommy Lynch nailed this mondo brown trout in the Pere Marquette river on a mouse fly at night.  It's a 30 incher.

There's something that makes a catch like this extra-special...

That is one beautiful fish, a true Trophy

  • Walleye Angler Lands New Colorado Channel Cat Record
    9

    From the InDenver Times:

Mike Stone was fishing for trout and walleye at Aurora Reservoir on July 26, when he dropped a floating jighead, tipped with a nightcrawler worm, into the water . . . [and claimed the state-record for channel catfish].

That is an awesome catch, Congrats to the angler

  • Was Giant Japanese Bass Caught Off Limits?
    13

We knew it was going to take quite a long time to verify whether Manabu Kurita had indeed landed the world record bass at the beginning of this month, but questions keep coming up, each one making it harder for Kurita to take sole possession of the record.

The rules are there for a reason, you have to meet follow the rules to the letter to qualify for a record. Too many if's associated with this so-called record.

  • Merwin: Lucky vs. Good
    15

When it comes to fishing, is it better to be lucky or to be good?

That’s an age-old question, of course, but worth talking about once in a while.

The longer you fish and the more techniques you learn the better your chances of catching a trophy size fish, but there is always a luck factor involved. The right place at the right time has a lot to do with catching a trophy size fish.
