At a bankruptcy auction held in Minnesota last Friday, a California-based company called Platinum Equity wound up buying fabled bass-boat brand Ranger along with Stratos, Champion, and several others formerly owned by Genmar.
How--or even if--a private equity company known for toughly squeezing bottom lines will continue to manage one of fishing’s best-known brands remains to be seen. Also up in the air is just what relationship the new Ranger owners will have with FLW Outdoors, the pro-bass tournament series. Genmar principal Irwin Jacobs, who until last week controlled Ranger, developed the FLW Tour as a means of hyping and selling bass boats. He still owns the tour, but not the boats.
At a press conference at its Florida headquarters just minutes ago, the IGFA announced its long-awaited certification of a new all-tackle world-record largemouth bass.
The 22-pound, 4.97-ounce fish was caught in July 2009 from Japan’s 259-square-mile Lake Biwa by 32-year-old Manabu Kurita. The 29-inch bass took a live bait.
After the University of Georgia’s mascot, Uga VII, died earlier this month, PETA sent a letter to the school requesting they not use a live dog as their mascot but rather a robotic dog or a costumed human. The letter claimed the English bulldogs were being inbred to “create a brand for the university,” and that “inbreeding” leads to congenital health defects.

green pond mike,
I don't know who this ss person is. But for starters, I am not them. I did not post the comment on saying that I'm sorry he must have. If I really was this person, how would I have known anything about fishing or my other comments if I was totally against the sport? I've done some background searching and this person and he's nuts. We just need to get him kicked off. But the comment about me saying shutup is that guy said something to me a while back and he just made me mad. I'm sorry. Now I am totally against this person, but getting the law? Isn't that a bit much? I personally believe in the first amendment. What he said was dreadful, but people are going to say things sometimes that are offensive, but people just need to ignore it. If they ignore it the person will probably stop. No one ignored him so thats why he didn't stop. However, I think we should take this opportunity and try to just convince him/her that we are just normal people, and we do nothing bad. Just a suggestion.
December through February can be a tough time for hunters. If your tag is punched or the season has closed, you've got a long wait until spring gobblers. But with coyotes you're looking at a year-round season—no limits, no license. Outfitter Cory Lundberg (codahunts.com), who guides predator hunters in Wyoming and Utah, says, “This kind of hunting is a waiting game. A mature coyote can take a long time to come in, and you must be able to sit still the whole time. If he smells, sees, or hears you, the game is over.”

Pro bass fisherman Terry Butcher of Talala, Okla., catches his biggest wintertime bass by slow-rolling a spinnerbait in water as cold as 47 degrees. The prime time for this tactic is after a sunny warm front has baked the surface water for a few days. This draws bass up from deeper water and puts them in a feeding mode. Carefully casting to fallen trees is the key.
Earlyriser81,
My suggestion to you is to take a worm or perhaps a jig and get a godd feel for the cover and know how long the branches, the water depth to the branches, and ect. Get a good feel and then try the spinner bait. As for everyone else, instead of slow-rolling the spinnerbait, try burning it through the branches, this my provoke a reaction strike.

Wind is very important. Know how the wind is going so that you can position yourself. Coyotes usually come from downwind.
