I am at a split decision on this. I have seen alot of dogs that have run down deer and others that just like the chase. Its a matter of what YOU FEEL IS RIGHT at that time, and WHAT YOUR WILLING TO LIVE WITH! There are alot of ways that deer get run-off property, and if you own the land, then you should be able to do what you see fit.

As bad as it may seem, I would cut the throat. Sometimes its harder to do then you would think, emotionally and physically, but its something that needs to be done. The animal doesnt need to suffer any more then it already has. Plus, I really dont want to waste the arrow or broadhead niether. Its something that all hunters must go through.

Q:Do stabilizers actually work on compound bows? If so, which brand do you use on your bow?
from Archery 101 on 09.07.09

I believe its all in the shooter. I have, for many years, shot with a stabilizer and I know one thing for a fact; it does add extra weight to your bow. This can be a down factor if your not really used to the bow or the extra equipment. I say that a stabilizer is in the opinion of the shooter and that if your going to use one, make sure you use one every time you shoot.

I do alot of trout fishing in those types of water. Here in SW WI, it floods alot and the cricks get it the worst. But I can tell you from myexperience, you want to take your split-shot down to the eye of your hook, enough to where your pinky fits. Then use a WHOLE crawler, leave its tail dangling. Then position yourself to where your bait can travel along the water so when it hits the hole, it either rolls in or drops down, fast. The tail of the worm is what grabs thier attention. They cant see very well either, and the tail helps with movement. Also, bigger the worm, the better the meal looks!

Well as much as it hurts me to say, I am one of those "unemployed". The economic downfall caused my job to cut back and put me on the bread line! But even with the economy and the fact that finding a job now is like finding a needle in a stack of needles, nothing will stop me from hunting or fishing. Its the one thing I know will be there to help me when/if times get real rough! Remember, if the world suddenly did go into depression, at least we know as hunters and fisherman that we still know how to live and fend for our families!

I would have to say t all depends on the shooter. Each one of us shoots differently and feels more comfortable in specific shot scenarios. Me I can keep it in a 3-inch circle at around 40-45 yds...but Im not sure I would take that at a deer, it would have to be an almost perect shot.

I may be wrong on this, but I was always told and have used this as sort of a "rule-of-thumb" when I shoot. 1 in grouping I try to keep each arrow within a 1in distance from the other....or....fill the bulls-eye. If you can do that consistantly then your shooting is good enough to take a trophy!

Q:How many of you practise deer management? I hunt deer for the meat, what are your thoughts????
from NYhunter on 06.22.09

I practice it all the time, not just in deer management. I believe that people who have the power to release something or to let a small one go, has the right intentions and should be honored. I myself, let everything I catch fishing go, unless its a fish that breaks MY own record or if I feel like having a fish fry that night, otherwise everything goes back. As for hunting; I have my personal bests that I want to top, so if anything comes in lower then what I have already shot, 9 out of 10 times, I will pass.

from timwilgus on 05.26.09

I can tell ya this much, when fishing fer' largemouths-the story behind what bait to use, is a long one! You can use anything from a spinner to a jig. It all depends on a couple of major things: weather-time of day-water clearity-pressure on the water, etc... thats not even the tip of the ice burg. If it was me, I would try almost everything that I already know, and see what works best, then amplify the method I am using.

Well it has to depend on where your fishing and what your fishing for. Me personally, I prefer to use my fly-rod, just on account of all the action and plus, I dont really GO after anything thats bigger than a largemouth or a really huge brown trout. But if I had to choose for any other type of rod, it would have to be anything made by Shakespere or Abu Garcia. I have fished with these types of rods my entire life and also has my father. They are great and are reliable for years.

First off, let me start by saying well-said. The so called "code of ethics" that is suppose to bind all of us as sportsmen and women, seems to have dwindled down over the years. I too was brought up to respect the land in which gives us life and the freedoms that we have. I know that without mother nature herself we would be in for alot of trouble. Some poeple have forgot that and use her and take advantage at what she gives us. We as sportsmen and women have the hardest part: keep the ethics going. All the farmers and agricultural people, all the hunters and fishermen etc, etc. The list goes on. We as the sportsmen and women of today have to realize that there are people out there that want our beloved sport to die and to cease and that there is nothing that they wouldnt do to see that happen. All the antis and the government officials that have never once known what it was like to HAVE to HAVE that venison or fish in the freezer to help them during the winter. Or how that extra little bit of money the long tretcherous hours spent walking creeks and rivers in freezing cold water to check a trapline, came in handy when there families were out of work. My last comment that I would like to make about this question is this: In my opinion today, nobody cares about ethics. Ethics are a thing of the past. Now it seems everyone is ready to overlook their ethics in order to make thier lives easier. We need to remember that ETHICS is and will always be the backbone of every sport, and until we can get that back in everyone, nothing will be the same and it will just continue to get worse.

Well Im not sure how to answer this exactly but I can tell you what I have done in past experiences. There was this particular time I can remember, when a buddy of our hunting group brought his boy with. It was the boys first time hunting. Anyway, the boy ended up hitting a doe, low. We tracked it for what seemed like hours, but we finally came accross the doe. Without even realizing it, we had crossed onto another piece of private property. We were in process of field dressing when three men approached us. They were pretty upset that we were on their land and began to yell at us. We tried to explain the situation about the low hit and it being the boys first deer, but they wanted nothing to do with it. To make the story a little shorter since I am rambling on here, we ended up arguing with the people until cops and wardens were involved and lets just say it could have been a "cheaper" hunting trip for me! But the warden told us that if we would have tagged the animal and then tried to contact the landowners or the game warden we would have been fine, but since we did in fact "trespass" we got fined for that also. He said if the deer was legally tagged and the proper measures were taken and if the property owners would have tampered with the deer at all then it would have been a crime on them. So I guess the best thing to do is make sure you claim the deer legally, then contact a warden. Thats your safest bet.
