    With a stubby 18 ½-inch barrel, this rifle is very short (only 37 inches overall) and light (7 pounds) as well. Combined with Garrett Cartridges' (www.garrettcartridges.com) fire-breathing custom loads, it will knock an elk sideways. This little rifle works great with iron sights but is so accurate that it begs to be used with a low-powered scope. ($646; 800-544-8892; www.marlinfirearms.com)

    I just ran across this thread. One of my bear hunting cronies, who is built similar to Hulk Hogan, has one and I thought I wanted one until I saw how his pounded him around. No thanks, I'll stick to my little 336C in .35 Remington.

    I recently had the chance to check out the new Micro Brite sights from TruGlo, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. What was especially cool is that the pins come in different sizes, with those for longer yardages being much smaller than those for closer ranges.  The three-pin sight, for example, has pins that are .029, .019, and .10 inch diameter. A five-pin sight is also offered, with 1 .029, 2 .019 and 2 .10 –inch diameter pins. This makes a lot of sense, when you think about it.

    Not sure if it's this particular model but I have a TruGlo on my bow and like it a lot.

    I too have a 310 that I live very much. I also have a geriatric Homelite 150 that is long past retirement and plan to replace it with another Stihl. Making up my mind between the 270, 280, or another 310. I'm not too excited over the new chain adjuster on this saw, ok with the old standard system, but that's just me. I too like Stihl very much.
