Why would you use a airsoft gun to hunt? You should use something that gives you a quick kill. Animals aren't supposed to suffer, and it's our responsibility as hunters to make sure of that. Unless your under 10 yrs. old, use at least a .22! But if airguns are what you want to purchase, Gamo makes a line of hunting guns, but I had a friend buy one and said the quality was horrible and he returned it.

The only ones who get hurt by this are the farmers who grow crops specifically for baiting deer. The DNR here in MI kind of blindsided the farmers last year by announcing the ban right before the season started. The stores still sold bait (DNR can't control sale of agricultural products) but no doubt the sales suffered. I know alot of guys who still baited, but it's not worth the risk. And besides it's better for us all if it's banned.

They are some type of worm. They aren't harmful. The DNR biologist, that I ask about this to said, they require being eaten by fish and pooped out by birds in order to complete thier life cycle. Normal cooking kills them. We have them in our Bluegill and Crappie up here in MI.

All of these guys make the best points, and you do need to take care of this problem. I've seen what happens when you don't take care of a poaching problem right away. I'd start with a Remington 870 pump with multiple screw in chokes. That way you have an all around bird-hunting gun that wont break the bank. Then later on down the line purchase a auto for skeet and every other foul. It's just my personal opinion, but I like to have a gun specifically set-up for one season and another gun for hunting something else.

Maybe Michigan should start a chapter of the "Wolf Coalition" in our Upper Peninsula. They decimate the deer/moose population, and our beloved DNR says they are not the cause of the declining herds. Eventhough winterkill has been extremely low the last couple years, it is supposedly still the culprit. I say shoot, shovel, and shut up! If the DNR isn't going to take care of the problem, maybe sportsman will have to cull the packs.

Gotta agree with Jeff4066 on this one. I highly doubt he didn't notice the shells. He should get suspended for being a dumba$$. I know alot of you might not agree, but if my kids are at school and there is a gun or ammunition brought on school grounds, I want that kid suspended. The youth these days deal with issues differently than we did. When I was a kid and we had a problem, we got in a good old fashioned fist fight. Now kids use guns or knives.I personally blame the parents for not raising them the right way. Maybe if parents were able to disipline kids the right way, instead of having social services called on them, we wouldn't have some of the problems we are experiencing now days. Accident or not, you have to be held accountable for your own actions!

Wow! I have nothing to add to this that would make it anymore clear. Everybody has made great points. It truly makes me glad to be part of these question/forums and I know that the true morals /ethics are constantly passed on from my fellow hunters/fisherman. Our kids are the future and if we all do our part to teach them what's right and what's wrong, WE WILL continue to change the perception of hunters being killers to hunters being heroes of conservation.

You should know this one MLH. It's because our DNR stand on over-passes and count deer going down the highway. And they do a great job with precision an accuracy on the harvest numbers. cough..cough..

I think you answered this before, where at in Mid-Mich. are you at. I'm in the thumb. Also how easy is it to start a hive. I'm going to plant a small orchard later this year and am wondering about cost and maint. issues.

The backstraps and then the heart. The heart (cooked up like tenderloins and served with eggs for breakfast) is delicious, and we save the hearts at camp until we get 3-4 and then pickle them. Great with cheese and crackers.

Always put the animal down, whether it is suffering or not. Gangegreen(???) will set in and also it affects the gene pool. Bucks that get shot or hit by a car and live often have mutated racks the next year and produce future bucks with genetic flaws.

If anybody sees an ignorant question, don't answer it. Eventually, the person asking the question will, hopefully, quit doing this and either ship up or ship out!

If I woke up late, i would go back to bed! All it takes is 1 time for a big buck to see you and change his pattern completely. Those deer will be there tommorow, it's not worth messing up what could be your 1 chance at a monster buck. If you can't go back to sleep, try scouting the rest of the morning from the road. I know this from experience. Drive around and see what the deer are feeding on, most of the time they hit the fields that they know are going to be picked soon or when they taste the best( like alfalfa or soybeans or maybe in the woods on acorn flats)
Q:how do you determine a good turkey, beard, spur, or overall weight?

I generally try for a bird with a 10"+ beard, there are so many birds around here (I'm furtunate I know) that we can afford to let the jakes get big, and be patient for a good tom. I have yet to score a bird with my bow, that's my plan come April 20th here in MI.

Do you have a taxidermist picked out? My friend does my work, and out of courtesy, I ask him because from past experience, everybody seems to do something just a little bit different. Good Luck this spring!!!

I agree. There are some really dumb questions too like "How is your day going?". That's not a hunting question! It seems that some users are just on here to accumulate points.

Beekeepers right, there is alot we don't know about your set-up. The only thing I would suggest right now is to scout hard, without being seen, prior to season to find out where these bucks are coming from. A game camera is good for this. Are all these bucks coming from and going to the same spot? If so maybe you need to set up off of this runway. In my own experience, I try not to hunt the same stand more than 2 days in a row. I think your scent hovers around even after your gone in some way shape or form. Maybe they see you going in to your stand? There are a lot of factors that could be sessing you up.

Without a doubt North American Hunting Club. They cover such a broad range of hunting. They also have a gear review section, lot's of info on foodplots, and they print lots of thier members pictures. It's a good club to be a part of. They also have some of the best hunters working for them, such as Chuck Adams, Bob Robb and Dave Maas.

You bow hunting or gun hunting? If your bow hunting, you're probably screwed. If gun hunting raise up and shoot. You should have time to raise up and get set to shoot while the initial commotion is going on. Then pick your shot.

Yes, except for the road races. Pretty boring! The race here in Michigan is pretty boring too! Not much to our track. Talledaga and Bristol are a blast to watch.

No... usually they will go through 3 cycles, or until they become inpregnated. Usually they give birth from May to July (depending where you are at). Now as for antlers, I know that blood runs through the velvet, to help the antlers develop, but that's the extent of my knowledge. Hopefully, someone finishes this because I would also like to know.

Sorry MLH I don't understand what your asking.
Pros: Huge entrance hole, easy tracking, flies like a field tip, easy to change blades. Cons: Cost, hard to still hunt with (corn and branches often open up the blades), and won't blow through a shoulderblade.

jamesti is right... here in MI they both work great on trout, bass, and all panfish. Everyone should have atleast a couple different colors and sizes of each. Also the largest red and white, and the black and yellow bucktail work great on northern pike.

I don't think anyone was ignoring your question, we all just lack what your asking for. I know I'm not gonna answer something I have no knowledge of.
Never hunted outside of Michigan, lots of game, deer herd needs work. Our doe to buck ratio is horrible. We also have bear, elk, bobcat, pheasant, quail, grouse, squirrel(fox & grey/black), turkey, fox, coyote, rabbit(cottontail & snowshoe), and pretty much every freshwater gamefish in the states. Plus if you trap, we have beaver, otter, mink, and muskrat.

I think Michigans Upper Peninsula was on that list also. I was just up there for the muzzleloading hunt in Dec. and shot a dandy 9-point. If you want a challenge and access to thousands of acres of prime hunting ground(National Forests) and no hunting pressure, I'd go there my friend. I'll be back next year. Just bring a quad or snowmobile, probably the later depending on the snow. There are awesome ceder swamps to hunt but if you don't have away to get back in the woods 2-5 miles your really limited to where you can hunt!

I'm a member of NAHC since 02' and have recieved items every year. They start you out small and you slowly get gear better in quality. My last 2 products to test were Scentlok Baseslayers (full outfit, even head cover) and a Therma-Cell mosquito dispencer. I've also got a lantern. You have to fill out a fieldtester profile, once you get your item you have to fill out the questionair and send it back in. Then you have to fill out another fieldtester profile. The only thing is, when I started doing it, I would get something every 8-10 months and it's going on 13 now. Seems to be getting longer and longer everytime, but it's worth it.

They are always a month behind, you should get it next month. Be prepared though, Outdoor Life likes to copy F&S. They are from the same publishing company and I think they mimic F&S from cover to cover. If you go to their website, it's almost identicle to F&S.

No prarie dogs here in Michigan, but we hunt cottontails with bows every winter. What a blast!!! Still it's hard not to lose a couple of arrows in the snow, you just try to remember where you lost them and check back in the springtime while looking for sheds and Morels.
