Grow up punks! We don't need jacka$$e$ like you on our site. I'm also reporting you and hope to never have to waste my time reading your dribble again.

Definately the Blue Channel, but alot of bullhead around here in MI have a yellow tint to them too!

20' minimum for me unless I'm hunting a ravine. And like the other guys said a white pine is my tree of choice for both the cover scent and the branches below me for cover.

I do and all three methods. It's fun to find out what's working, and I love going down small creeks and streams with a small ultra-light and a panther martin or worm and see what's living in it. Sometimes you find a nice beaver pond and slay some good brookies trapped in it.

I've got the 12 also, as a turkey gun with the accuchoke in Full. It's a great gun for the money and very reliable.

Yes sir!!!!!!!!!!

7' Ugly Stik w/ Shimano Baitcast Reel & 6'6" Berkley Lightning rod w/ Shakespeare open-face spinning reel.

If you ever want someone to call for ya, I'm not too far from ya. I don't think anyway? It's a blast and I hope you get into it.

I'm not sure but it would be a nice bonus someday.

Our season here in MI is Oct.1 to March 31st, so nope not yet.

Depends on what your fising here in MI. Pike just started Saturday.

They should, and I think they do. It's a great spot for unbiased opinions on products. Plus we usually give pretty good input on what needs to be improved.

Hey Reid, I just did the same on my property, no it's not baiting. Every animal will feed on these apples, and you aren't going to hunt over every tree right? It's natural and it's a food source, Good Luck.

I'm not sure this guy knows what this site is about!

I love it, you can never know enough about the outdoors.

I'm with you muskiemaster! Lets load up and head to Canada.

Alex, I fish Lake Huron and Michigan from the shore every year. Try to find one of those Little Cleo spoon combo kits with 5 lures. Blue/Silver, Orange/Silver, and Flor.Green/Silver seem to work the best for everything thats out there salmon and trout wise.

It definately sounds like your string has stretched. Follow the advice of all these other guys and you will be just fine.

I usually fish the edges first, then work the points and drop-offs. Then finally, drift fish acroos the lake. A depth/fish finder is a big help on a new lake too!

Dance a dead minnow on their bed and you will get a strike, it might take a minute, but you will get a hit.

Every turkeys different, some like it raspy, some like it high and squeaky, etc. Try a little of everything until you get a reaction. I used a mouth call, to call my bird in this morning. Other times it's been the box call.

Leaping whats?

I just saw a Husquvarna 16" bar in todays Quality Farm and Fleet (don't know if you have those where your from), for $199.99.

Use them (the big ones) for pike bait.

Maxim and National Geographic!

You don't need that much fps, especially if your a kid. Nothing personal, just the truth.

All of these guys make the best points, and you do need to take care of this problem. I've seen what happens when you don't take care of a poaching problem right away. But please don't refer to the turkeys as YOUR turkeys, they are everybodys' birds. Hunting is a challenge, and and nobody owns these birds until they harvest them. Sorry to be so blunt.

#2 silver bladed Panther Martin or # 4 black w/yellow spotted blade Mepps Bucktail

I'd wait him out, like jbird said, for the hens to nest down. I'll bet 99 out 100 times you won't be able to pull him away from those hens. But he will remember and probably come back to search for the hen the was calling him. Or if your short on hunting time, follow the low ground get up ahead of the flock and cut them off. I wouldn't call though, it might send then hens in the other direction.

I'm sure that outfitter won't be getting swamped with calls after the airing of that show. To bad the kid had to go through that.

Maybe Michigan should start a chapter of the "Wolf Coalition" in our Upper Peninsula. They decimate the deer/moose population, and our beloved DNR says they are not the cause of the declining herds. Eventhough winterkill has been extremely low the last couple years, it is supposedly still the culprit. I say shoot, shovel, and shut up! If the DNR isn't going to take care of the problem, maybe sportsman will have to cull the packs.

It's mother natures buck until YOU harvest it. You can't call "dibs", that's just the way it goes.

Yes it's depressing, where I'm at in MI, I'm lucky to see a rack that goes 120. These guys all go to outfitters and thats fine, to each their own.

I use live frogs hooked thru the back leg. Toss them out past lilly pads and hang on.

It's a baby cougar! Whether or not our DNR in MI wants to admit we have cougars or not, there is too many sightings and stories about these cats. The tail is too long to be a house cat. My parents live up around Fife Lake MI, and the neighbors horses got tore up from a cougars claws that jumped out of a tree onto their backs! Check out the website at www.michigancougar.com

Both of these guys are right about putting the birds to roost. That's how I do most of my scouting. And it works most of the time.

Way too expensive for this cat, sure looks like a nice piece of equipment though!

I don't mess with Bass while they're on their beds. Too many other fish in the lake to fish for!

Congradulations, I have to wait til 4.20 and I don't think I'll even be in the state for the season now. Figures... it's always something. I wish MI would hand out 2 permits a season.

That was awesome. Hopefully they will start having some more target practice out there on the other pirates.

Half of the sport is to find the game, I don't like to do anything half-a$$!

Layers and my Mr. Heater Buddy!!!!!

I personally prefer a .22, no pellets to pick out if you take a clean head shot. But if I had to choose, between a 12 and 20 gauge, probably a .20 gauge.

That maybe so, but how come nobody finds little button sheds in the woods. Now if you thought normal shed hunting was hard, try finding the buttons!!! LOL

I love catching carp just for the reason they are such great fighters. If you get a chance, if you haven't already, try bow fishing them. Now that's a blast!

I haven't got into that yet. Have you made any Rapala type lures yet and what types of wood did you use for your lures? I'm just getting into making Pike Spearing decoys and have only used Bass wood. I have to custom make my tail, dorsal and gill fins out of plastic or sheetmetal. It would be nice to find a manufacturer that had a catalog for these.

I would like to see them all make it, but it seems like some will probably go the way of the Dodobird. It does look like the .300 and .270 are the most popular. Unfortunately, I have not shot anything but the two forementioned guns. What is the smallest WSM they make?

I'd start with a Remington 870 pump with multiple screw in chokes. That way you have an all around bird-hunting gun that wont break the bank. Then later on down the line purchase a auto for skeet and every other foul. It's just my personal opinion, but I like to have a gun specifically set-up for one season and another gun for hunting something else.

I'm sorry guys this is not a related response, but why the Celtics icon? Do you think they really have a chance against LeBron loving David Stern? As a die-hard Pistons fan, I've seen what happens when Stern picks his Golden Boy to win (Example Miami and Wade & Last Year Garnett and Celtics). Last year they hyped up the Celtics before the season even started. Again I apologize for this response... I hate the NBA!

Why would you use a airsoft gun to hunt? You should use something that gives you a quick kill. Animals aren't supposed to suffer, and it's our responsibility as hunters to make sure of that. Unless your under 10 yrs. old, use at least a .22! But if airguns are what you want to purchase, Gamo makes a line of hunting guns, but I had a friend buy one and said the quality was horrible and he returned it.

No I don't think so. I've had 2 button bucks in my backyard for the last month, and the buttons are quite visable.

Did you kill the snakeheads? We used to have a problem with dogfish in my favorite pike lake, but after a year of throwing them in the garden,we took care of that problem. By the way we went after Crappie today, but no luck!

H.S.Strut makes some good ones. I have a quaker Boy Quad call which has 4 different calling pitches which is nice on a stubborn hung up bird.

Yelps- which I do in little circles ( the raspier the better) Purring- which I drag my striker straight down the slate in a slow motion making a purring sound (it's supposed to mean the hens are at ease)

I have one on my Savage .270 WSM and it's a nice little option. I've had some triggers that required a little extra force and being able to make the pull a little lighter gives you a smoother shot.

Size is the only difference.

I'm a memeber and there is nothing wrong with the club. The magazines are kind of repetitive, but what hunting magazine isn't? They do send you stuff to test out, which is a nice perk. I've been a member for 7 years and some of the stuff they gave me to field test is a lantern, deer scents, a gun cleaning mat, a thermo-cell, scent-lok baslayers top&bottom and head cover, and some others I can't recall. When you becaome a Life Member they take the previous yrs. you were a member, off of your total. Plus they have great writers like Chuck Adams and Bob Robb.

Q: What kinda vehicle do all you hunting/fishing/outdoors enthusiasts drive? CNN Headline News did a short news listing regarding Ford and GM's Contributions to the relief and recovery efforts in New York and Washington. The findings are as follows..... 1. Ford - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees. 2. GM - $10 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of Vans, SUV's, and Trucks. 3. Daimler Chrysler - $10 million to support of the children and victims of the Sept. 11 attack. 4. Harley Davidson motorcycles - $1 million and 30 new motorcycles to the New York Police Dept. 5. Volkswagen - Employees and management created a Sept 11 Foundation, funded initial with $2 million, for the assistance of the children and victims of the WTC. 6. Hyundai - $300,000 to the American Red Cross. 7. Audi - see VW 8. BMW - Nothing. 9. Daewoo - Nothing. 10. Fiat - Nothing. 11. Honda - Nothing despite boasting of second best sales month ever in August 2001 12. Isuzu - Nothing. 13. Mitsubishi - Nothing. 14. Nissan - Nothing. 15. Porsche - Nothing. Press release with condolences via the Porsche website. 16. Subaru - Nothing. 17. Suzuki - Nothing. 18. Toyota - Nothing despite claims of high sales in July and August 2001. Condolences posted on the website . Whenever the time may be for you to purchase a new vehicle, keep this information in mind. You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company. Apart from Hyundai and Volkswagen, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States ... It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this. Say thank you in a way that gets their attention..

97' Dodge Ram and 97' Chevy 1500 I won't ever buy a new truck! I'll buy my wife a new vehicle but for hunting and fishing, I beat the hell out of them. Drive it till it breaks and then buy another one if I can't fix it.

Slothman, cant say I've ever seen a 300lb.'er in a tree before. I'm 200lb. and think I stick out like a sore thumb. Where are you gonna hunt in Tenn.? I'm sure somebody on this site could help you find a good spot.

Yes but only in the fall. Mostly run them with dogs.

We caught a 50lb. Spoonbill in Lake of the Ozarks years ago, but other than that time I've never used one. They are illegal here in MI. Not much skill involved, but would be an effective way of food in a survival situation.

If it tastes like bear I'd try it. Bear burgers are excellent. But the meat was mixed 50/50 with pork. It had a tiny bit of gamey flavor, but thats what I liked about it. No different than shooting a buck from MI Upper Peninsula.

Mine doesen't, which allows for some good alone time(when the kids aren't with me). She doesn't hunt either. And I don't go to Bingo with her, it's kind of like our places of Zen.

All these guys make great points, and getting permission should always be #1 priority. Otherwise it makes a bad name for all sportsman. I would also do some morning scouting, find the fields with birds in them. If you don't have any luck with the first farm, don't quit. Alot of farmers think turkeys do alot of crop damage so they might be eager to let someone in there to take a few out of the population. Good Luck!

Seems like a fun career, but doesn't seem like there would be enough time with the family. I know how much time I spend in the woods during bow season and the rut. I couldn't imagine jumping from state to state for 4 months in a row following the rut around. I'd rather have my kids with me in the field or on the water.

I'd continue to fish it... but as a catch and release only. Do you know where the pipes come from? Are they from a field or factory. If the lake stays murky all the time, that would be a warning signal to me. You never know what people are dumping these days. If you see something nasty coming out of it, report it to the DNR and let them check into it. You could be doing the environment a great favor.

We used to slit the throat, but after a couple of bad situations (nearly stuck, charged, and gored) I/We always dispatch it as quickly as possible with a gun. Unless it's in bow season. But it sounds like you did the right thing to me!

That's a new one to me. Good theory though! Unless of coarse it's mating season.

Go with a .270 WSM It is a good gun for anything from pronghorn to whitetail to bear to elk. And it will reach out and touch something. What part of Wyoming you going to?

There will wil still be murderers and crimes if guns all disappeared. The terrorists took over the Pennsylvania plane on 9/11 with a boxcutter. I didn't see any big movement across the Govt./country to eliminate and outlaw boxcutters. This is an issue that will go on for decades and it's like beating a dead horse. So let's relax kick up our feet and crack open a cold-one, summers almost here!

There are many more qualified folks than I!

.17 looks like something that could be quite versitile from smallgame to predators.

Hopefully by giving people answers that help them with thier problems. Who's Nate?

I recently got back from TN and both landfills we worked at had yote tracks everywhere. They must have run at night because we never saw them.

Yes sir!

2Poppa... what's the answer ??????

I went this route when I bought my first trail-cam. I would suggest spending at least $150. I bought one of those Stealth-cams for $99 and it was junk. I too, am currently looking for a trail-cam but this time I think I'm going with the Prowler Or the IR-550 (Stealth-cam).

I tried it at my previous hunting spot and it grew great but, I couldn't keep the deer out of it and by the time bow season showed up the plot was decimated. Maybe if you try some of that Arrest (you spray it on a tape that is around the plot) it would help it out. A friend of mine used it and says it works great.

I wish I would have taken woods class in High School, that's a great idea. I'd try to make a pike spearing decoy too!

I'd go with Mr. Twister jig twistertail w/silver blade, I used to try everything in the wind and this worked best for me.

Hjohn429 sounds like he's gonna have one for sale, might be what your looking for. If I could add to what Hjohn said for accesories, I'd add a string loop for your mechanical release. Less wear and tear on your bow string.

Man I'm glad we don't have them things up here.

Dels right, if I could afford a Mathews right now, I'd buy one in a heartbeat. But even if you can't, I'm sure a good bow shop will set you up based on your needs. If they don't seem too eager to help you move along to another shop. There is nothing better than a good bow technician. And by the way, there's nothing better than bow-hunting.

Buy a new one and save the old one for a kid or for bowfishing. Or donate it to a youth hunting/shooting club.

Nikon makes great binoculars, so I would expect the same for their scopes.

I never have personally, or heard this brought up before, why... are you noticing something?

Just don't let PETA morons find out about it, thats something else for them to hold against us.

Sounds like one of those superimposed pictures to me.

I'd go with Dels idea that way you never have to mess with it again.

My buddy ran one over with his car and then turned the hide into a longbow arrow quiver. It was pretty cool.

When I used to use them I went with API. Made some noise on the way in and out of the woods though.

Redhead Enduraskins, like MLH, and Cabelas Camo-Pants and lightweight long sleeve mock t-shirt. Uninsulated rubber boots and a Camo ballcap.

Maybe the ammo companies saw the results in what the oil companies did(make a huge profit) and decided to claim there is a ammo shortage and are going to drive up the prices.

The only ones who get hurt by this are the farmers who grow crops specifically for baiting deer. The DNR here in MI kind of blindsided the farmers last year by announcing the ban right before the season started. The stores still sold bait (DNR can't control sale of agricultural products) but no doubt the sales suffered. I know alot of guys who still baited, but it's not worth the risk. And besides it's better for us all if it's banned.

That would be my kids, the night before a morning fishing trip, out on the lawn gathering my worms.

I'm a michigander also, and deer are #1 followed by everything else that you can hunt here in MI.

4-5 yrs. as a subscriber and 3-4 months on the website.

Easy fix, Greenhead says it best.

Yes probably. I just wish they would start to realize that if more people are armed some of these tragedies could be ended swiftly, instead of nobody being armed and being sitting ducks.

I think I spent $10.00 on a pike lure once. But for $50.00, it better troll itself across the lake, and fillet the fish once it's caught.

Like shane, Idon't get it. Caught myself chasing golfballs in it many times and never got it. Guess I'm lucky.

Gotta agree with Jeff4066 on this one. I highly doubt he didn't notice the shells. He should get suspended for being a dumba$$. I know alot of you might not agree, but if my kids are at school and there is a gun or ammunition brought on school grounds, I want that kid suspended. The youth these days deal with issues differently than we did. When I was a kid and we had a problem, we got in a good old fashioned fist fight. Now kids use guns or knives.I personally blame the parents for not raising them the right way. Maybe if parents were able to disipline kids the right way, instead of having social services called on them, we wouldn't have some of the problems we are experiencing now days. Accident or not, you have to be held accountable for your own actions!

With all the media hounds clamoring to get the scoop first, they believe/report everything they hear. The real story never comes out until weeks later.

Everything should be universal, otherwise it would be nothing but a pain in the a$$ to buy bow accessories.

Take your pick. Up here we have Pink Bottoms, Morels, puffballs, and ones we call stumpys (cuz they grow on stumps). Morels are the top dog though. I like em fried in butter and served on a nice juicy Delmonico steak. Nothing better for lunch in turkey camp!

Must be nice, I have to wait until the 20th!

8 pt buck

2 quail with a 16gauge single shot, covey flew up, I shot 2 went down

My name is wallofsam and I have a problem. There I said it! Please don't tell my wife I admitted this, all she'll say is "I told you so" The first step is done, what's step 2 and how many steps are there?

Your killing me, what have you got up your sleeve?

If you don't mind my asking, how much was the Blackhawk Mag 44 going for at the gun show?

Unfortunately, I don't have a pole barn to put a full body mount of this animal in, so I'll have to do a shoulder mount. As to what I would hunt it with, I'd have to go with a bow & arrow. Sounds like a good hunt to me. To bad we can't clone them and put them on an island like the crazy Prof. in Jurassic Park!

Throw it a jar of honey! That one in my kids Hundred Acre Woods books sure seemed to like it! LOL

If it's legal, was he in a penned ranch?

How did you get these guns, your only 18. You might be getting this gun dealer who sold these guns in some crap. You meant, your Dad bought these guns and when you went to shoot it, you noticed this problem... right?

Any one that shoots straight!

Way to open a can of worms on that one KMB! To each their own. Just like any group, if I want any interest, I'll pursue it myself. They hunt and fish just like we do! The more sportsmen/women on our side the stronger voice we all have!

We used to catch a mess load of those out of the Thunder Bay River in Alpena,MI. We would always just throw them in dry Drakes and pan fry them, just like Catfish. Make a side of fried taters and have some cold Budweisers with them and ahhh..DELICIOUS!!!!!!!!

Make your trip worthwhile, the first mature buck (2+ yrs.) I'd probably take. Unless, of course there is a ton of good sign or you are seeing lots of bucks. Good Luck and let us all know how it went.

I'd find out what the hatcheries use to feed the trout and try to find something as close to that as possible.

Join the NRA, I did after doing some extensive research. We can prevent these crazy laws being introduced. And thanks to MLH there is a free years membership registry link on the message boards page, under announcements, then under Free NRA membership. Strength in numbers!

Careful what you wish for, I used to be gungho just like you but "good things come to those who wait". The older I got, the more I understood why we had these laws. You may be mature enough to drink and mature enough to own/shoot a handgun, but I would have to say a good 90% of the 18yr. olds out there aren't! Just bide your time and enjoy life. Besides, it seems like your doing a good job at getting around the laws anyway.

Panther Martins or Mepps Spinners

Lots of practice! Once you get comfortable shooting, put yourself in different hypathetical hunting situations and shoot from different angles and distances.

I was always told dark water dark lures, clear water bright lures. I haven't seen anything to discourage that theory yet.

Sorry, I don't buy those T.V. gimmicks. But some other guys on here have used it and had success.

It should work, just get em in close. Then when you get a chance buy a full or extra full choke. Better yet, order one from Cabelas or Bass Pro and have them ship it 3 day mail. Then you'll have no worries.

Check on the NC DNR website.

I'd hate to be hunting with you Coop! Ha Ha Ha. I'd shoot right between the eyes and run like a deer.

Rabbit, my buddy has NEF single shot turkey gun in 3" but it won't kick out the shell after being fired. It's the 3rd time I'd heard of this. Must be a defect?

I used to shot a cap-lock and the only buck I ever shot at, I knocked him right on his rump, and he got up ran away and never even found a spec of blood. I was shooting a ball w/patch and 90 grains of powder. I got rid of the gun for a mid-priced inline from CVA and dropped a 9pt this year, right in his tracks. I'd go with something other than a ball.

Yes and like Coop says "more money". What's up with your name?

I don't get it, how does a cleaning rod hurt your barrel? When you guys clean your guns, you guys are wiping the rod down as you go? Do you spray your rod with anything before you clean a barrel?

I'm not gonna get into the whole left and right thing, that sound like conspiracy theory to me. But I agree we, as a society, need to get these nutjobs off the streets. We should bring back the "death sentence". Maybe it would deter some of these morons from even thinking about hurting anyone, maybe not.

I have heard of WD-40 as a fish attractant, but I think it's illegal. Probably because you pollute the water.

Just buy a new eyelet, like whiteriver says should still work great on panfish. My kids do this to me once a year!

Nice to have friends in high places, eagerly waiting for the article.

Years back I shot what I thought was a wounded doe, only to find out it only had 3 legs and was fine. No wound at all, if there was one it was completely healed over.

Coop, you forgot to ask the bad guy if he could hang on a minute while you take the trigger lock off. I also say HELL NO!

everything that rabbit said! For the cutbait use little bluegills

You said it Coop! One day soon this situation is going to happen where a civilian with a gun is going to save someone/or a group of people from a nut job with a gun. I can't wait to see what the medias reaction will be, they cops will probably arrest the savior for having a concealed weapon.

I would find some suspended structure and drop a Maribu Crappie Jig down tipped with a minnow for the crappie. Not sure about the others, hope this helps. My friends who are avid crappie fisherman are catching white crappie this way right now.

In the spring summer and fall, ice cold Budweiser from a bottle, everything tastes better from a glass bottle. But wintertime, hot choacolate in the morning, and maybe a little buttershots at night?

Lets do it old school, with a spear or maybe a snare.

Velociraptor because they were pack hunters and probably the Pteradactyle? for wing shooting. But that side of Brontosaur ribs on the Flintstones sure looked tasty.

Yes... I think it has been along time coming.

Until this post, I always thought they were strictly a varmint gun. See that's why I love this website, I'm always learning stuff!

My friend caught one while we were bluegill fishing that was 17" , but the biggest one I have caught is 15" and I threw mine in another buddies pond.

Thanks guys... I'm now a member.

I grew up in the city, my family would drive 50 miles out past Ann Arbor to be in the outdoors every other weekend(when I wasn't at a hockey tournament). My parents instilled this in me and now I try to involve my family in all my outdoor hobbies. Sometimes it works other times they just say "have fun".

When you start seeing crickets on your lawn. Or if you see fish hitting bugs on the water surface.

What exactly is a delayed harvest trout water. We have designated fly stream/rivers and sections were you can only use live bait but I've not heard of what you are saying.

Over 200 suckers, used some for garden fertalizer and canned and smoked the rest.

Not my own broadhead, but jabbed my hand on one while gutting a deer. Someone else stuck the buck before I did and it never died.

It looks like another gimmick to me. Throw any bait in a Bass filled aquarium, were the Bass haven't been feed in days, and they will bite.

Depends on what you are using it for... if you are trying to learn fish patterns, then I'd go with what streak said, but if it's for memories just put pictures and a short story.

Depends on what seasons are open, our bass season opens Memorial Weekend and our pickeral and trout aren't open either. I'd check that first.

If it's walleye, I let it sit in a bowl of milk for an hour and then bake it with butter, garlic salt and pepper, and a little cayenne. It comes out nice and flaky!

I can't hunt with a rifle were I live, so 12 gauge shotgun.

Fried most of the time, unless its a nice salmon or trout. Then I like to cook them on the grill in foil with butter, salt and pepper.

Try to find a rabbit trail in some thick brush/cover, seems like this is where I always see there tracks in the winter time.

sorry, I forgot to finish, daughter started crying and got sidetracked. It was the buck I had shot the night before. I shot it a little further back than I wanted and let it lay over night. Went back out to track it and followed blood trail to right behind my house. Shortest drag I ever had!

10yrds. behind my backyard.

I wax mine once a week, and I try to shoot everyday. I only shoot 12-15 arrows at a time.

Gar in Saginaw Bay. rezavoirdog is that legal in your state, we can't do that here and we can't fish them during spawning season either.

I shot Quik-Spin wraps on my arrows last year through a Whisker Biscuit and had great success with 2" groups on the target and killed a buck with them. Never had any problems!

Personal preference I guess.

My Remington Nylon 66 .22LR

Not sure what you mean?

Yes it works great. I'll have mine by my side on opening day of turkey.

It's a great scouting tool if you do it right. Here in MI, I have better luck putting them to bed. I'll call just before sundown. If they are out there like you say, you should be able to here them gobbleing in the morning and figure out where they are roosting.

I'd have to go with bowhunting. I love the lack of pressure in the woods, and the anticipation of the 1st rut. Not to mention the milder weather. I also take alot more pride in a bow-killed buck. Good question!

Try to chum them in with corn and then put some corn on your hook and toss it in the center. Seems to work better than chicken livers.

Use frogs, toss them on shore and then drag them into the water. Then hang on!

Not legal here in MI, besure to check local regulations. Why not use a shotgun?

They should still be sharp. But if you don't want to spend on replacement blades, Cabelas or Bass Pro sells blade sharpeners.

Thank you too, it seems like I'm learning something new all the time.

Never heard of it... what's it all about?

Yes for 3-4 years now, also North American Hunting Club, Outdoor Life, and Michigan Out of Doors! I love em all.

Nothing less than a 300 Mag. those little guys are vicious, as for the money, how much you want for the tents? HA!

What's the conflict? Mom/Wife can wait for a delicious walleye dinner or take them with you! April Fools! My wife wouldn't go for that. Halloween Night (usually a great night to hunt here in MI), but the last 4 I've been on Trick or Treat duty w/ the kids.

No she doesn't... sweet solitude!

They are some type of worm. They aren't harmful. The DNR biologist, that I ask about this to said, they require being eaten by fish and pooped out by birds in order to complete thier life cycle. Normal cooking kills them. We have them in our Bluegill and Crappie up here in MI.

Any good bow shop should be able to take care of this for you, I just had my Buckmaster G2 restrung and it cost $70. But that included string leaches, peep sight, string loop, and tune up. Plus the bow tech said that I should come back after shooting 50 or so arrows and he would double check everything for me again for free. (the string stretches a little) This is alot cheaper than buying a bow press.

Amen!

Kkeltic is right , but put a rock in the bottom of the bag and for your depth use 10lb.+ fishing line instead of rope.

Wal-Mart has a wire minnow trap (frabil) for $8-$9. Put wadded up bread or dog food in it and come back in the morning.

The first month I hunted, but like steve182, I also would have bagged a deer sooner if I hadn't been strictly a buckhunter at the time.

Jim, if you go to the Michigan United Conservation Club (mucc.org), they have a step by step guide for doing the job. Once you are at the main screen, go to the Michigan Out Of Doors page. Once there, click on the Mich out of door T.V. link (on the right, in the green box). On the next page, click on Skull Mount How To (also in the green box). Hope this helps!

That's to bad, my Wolverines were up 2-0 last night and lost 5-2 to Notre Dame in the CCHA, and the B-ball team lost to Ok. but atleast I got M.S.U. still alive.

Cremated and spread out over some trout stream and throughout a cedar swamp in the Upper Peninsula. Then everybody will go to the hall that I have rented (it's going to be in the will) and party till daylight. No crying, unless your laughing your a$$ off due to good memories.

Amboy Duke, Damn Yankees and Solo Uncle Ted all rock this is not even debatable. Whack and stack baby!

Ultra-light rig with the smallest panther martin or mepps spinner if Beekeepers idea doesn't work.

No I don't think we should be playing with mother nature. I also don't think to highly of high fence pay to hunt ranches either. How can you take any pride in shooting a caged animal?

MLH said it best so far, it's bittersweet. Your first reaction is "sweet" and then it's "damn it, there gos another arrow". I've done it a couple of times and they are both hanging in some racks on the wall.

When I used to play fantasy football, my opponents would have to face a whole wall of sam, not just sam. It was also my teams name.

Where you at in MI?

Aren't you tyrell? Same icon anyway.

Yes... that company should be shut down for that crap. I fish the Little Manistee, lots of Rainbows and Brookies. Good idea on the Grayling MLH!

I'm in the teaching stage at the moment, 1 daughter started 2 yrs. ago, 1 son ready to start. But being I had to teach myself pretty much everything, to do with hunting, it's always nice to have a seasoned veteran out there with you... even at 35 yrs. of age.

Slugs are more effective in the open, but if you are in heavy brush, or swamp it can be quite effective. I know some guys that hunt in somewhat thick terrain and they load thier smoothbore shotguns with a slug 1st and the rest buckshot. It seems to work for them.

I was a treestep guy for years untill I tried the climbing sticks, I'll never go back.

All three, but just having that alone time is theraputic. There is nothing better (except having my son with me on stand) than being outdoors, I don't even care if I even see what I'm hunting. You see something new damn near everytime your out there. Not to mention the fact that everyday, you can learn something from a new situation. God bless mother nature! And then there's Deer Camp... How do you top that?

Out of 5 in the family, just my son and I eat what I harvest. Unless I trick my daughter into eating venison burger, she hates it when I do that! But out of 2 bucks in the freezer, 1 goes to jerky and sausage, 1 hind quarter goes into the slow cooker for shredded BBQ venison sandwiches (freeze the rest in styrofoam cups for later) and steaks/burger last him and I untill July.

Not the Bohnings, but I tried the Quik-Spin wraps w/4 inch vanes and they worked great. Just make sure the shaft is clean and the water is hot enough or you get air pockets. I learned the hard way and wasted 2 out of 6 wraps. But, if I ever go on a bowhunting trip, I will definately have some for quick arrow repair.

Check your target and see if your bullet is tumbling, or it is passing through clean. Possibly change brand of slugs.

Backstraps, butter, and onions fried in a cast-iron skillet. Or cube up some of your steak into 2 inch pieces, lightly brown them in butter, wrap a 1/2 piece of bacon around each one w/toothpick put in a casserole dish and put a whole bottle of B.B.Q. sauce on top. Cover with foil bake until done and serve to hungry poker players. Serve with Budweiser. (If of age)

I don't move unless I've tried a few of the major colors and lures. I've seen it before where a guy leaves a spot and 15 minutes later someone is in the same hole pounding the fish, so i like to try a little of everything before I move. This is especially true with icefishing and early season panfishing around MI.

This happens to almost everyone of my friends that hunt state land. There's not much you can do about it, except either wait them out or have a back up stand in place. Although a couple of my friends went to their back-up spots to find no stand or steps where they had set-up, seems to be alot of theft in the state woods around these parts. Hunters beware... I guess, though it's unfortunate. Hopefully the hunters in your region have a little more respect for each other than around here.

It happened to me the first time I posted a question. I think because of some slower internets (like mine) you have to wait for the question subject boxes to load up before you start hitting submit.

You should know this one MLH. It's because our DNR stand on over-passes and count deer going down the highway. And they do a great job with precision an accuracy on the harvest numbers. cough..cough..

Let him go and hopefully he'll be a shooter next year.

Sure, what's his phone #? That's pretty damn ridiculous isn't it. I don't own any assault weapons and don't care if I ever do (unless we get invaded), but I think we should all be able to collect/own whatever gun we choose as long as we are not a convicted felon of a violent crime. Now as for explosives, don't you have to have a permit to buy dynamite anyway (like to blow up stumps)?

Four-whellin, are you Tyrell, or his friend?

My friend in 5th grade for stealing my girl. No wait, it was deer, I grew up in the city and when I was 16 I got to go up to deercamp w/dad. They partied like rockstars and I hunted. Been hooked ever since.

I think you answered this before, where at in Mid-Mich. are you at. I'm in the thumb. Also how easy is it to start a hive. I'm going to plant a small orchard later this year and am wondering about cost and maint. issues.

Good question. I used to think it was a regional thing. But Bama's answer sounds better.

I flagged him and asked F&S to remove him from our little forum here. We don't need BOZOS like that . I hope I didn't offend anyone for doing that. It's just nice to get legit info from knowledgable people, not plagerist, and are here for the right reasons.

P.B.&J, Peanut Butter Trail Bar (2), and bottle of water.

Why pay the money? Just practice all the different senarios you could possibly be in, that way you can assure yourself and the animal a quick kill. We owe them that much.

MLH said it best...Tailgate up and if it's worth showing off, take it to a buck pole!

We have a great thing going on here with very knowledgable participants. I'm sure the staff @ F&S are already on this and will get this guy, whether it be Celtics or Broncos, out of here.

If anybody sees an ignorant question, don't answer it. Eventually, the person asking the question will, hopefully, quit doing this and either ship up or ship out!

I just spray down the inside with a hose, and hang it from a gambrel. It's not so much for me about cleaning it, as it is cooling the meat down to stop any bacterial growth. Then I hang it in the garage and shut the door to keep it cool. I live in MI so usually the temp. isn't a problem.

I take it off, because thats the way I practice shooting.

Set up 50 yrds. off of the tract, and pull him in. If he doesn't come, cut your loses and come back later. Maybe you'll come back at dusk to put him to roost. I can't stand it when people trespass on the land I hunt, so I would be a hypocrite to do the same. That's another problem with todays hunters, nobody respects property lines anymore. Even on stateland if someone sees your stand, they will set up 30-50yrds. away and try to drive you out.

Q: Topic: Hunter Ethics. What level of ethics are we bound to as hunters? I was raised to respect nature and respect animals. We raised most of our own food on the family farm including the beef, pork and fowl that graced the table. I literally knew my meat if you will. We also hunted smallgame, upland birds, waterfowl and big game for the table, this also provided recreation. As I said I was taught to respect wildlife and farm animals. When slaughter time came for the various farm animals that I had a direct hand in raising, the deed was to be done quickly and cleanly so as to prevent suffering. The animals were treated respectfully and handled kindly in the process. The same respect was due to any game killed for the table. (I despise the PC term "harvested" for this activity) If an animal was wounded, be it dove or deer it was to be dispatched as quickly and as mercifully as possible. I was also taught to treat the carcass with reverence in how it was handled after the kill. Occasionally predator control was necessary, and the same repsect and discipline for the kill was expected. Accuracy and on target performance were not only expected but demanded. Get as close as possible, wait for the most effective shot and make a quick, clean kill. Some of the answers and comments seen on this site I feel can be attributed to youthful exuberance some explained perhaps in other terms... The question: What level of ethics do we as sportsmen and women hold ourselves too in todays world?

Wow! I have nothing to add to this that would make it anymore clear. Everybody has made great points. It truly makes me glad to be part of these question/forums and I know that the true morals /ethics are constantly passed on from my fellow hunters/fisherman. Our kids are the future and if we all do our part to teach them what's right and what's wrong, WE WILL continue to change the perception of hunters being killers to hunters being heroes of conservation.

It's definately a personal preference, sometimes I do it and other times I don't. But it isn't neccesary.

Water the ground and wait until dark. I think cathching my own nightcrawlers is half of the fun.

If I woke up late, i would go back to bed! All it takes is 1 time for a big buck to see you and change his pattern completely. Those deer will be there tommorow, it's not worth messing up what could be your 1 chance at a monster buck. If you can't go back to sleep, try scouting the rest of the morning from the road. I know this from experience. Drive around and see what the deer are feeding on, most of the time they hit the fields that they know are going to be picked soon or when they taste the best( like alfalfa or soybeans or maybe in the woods on acorn flats)

If the tree hugger baits the deer, report him to the DNR. We can't bait here in Michigan and it sounds like he's doing it to purposly keep deer on his property.

Great question! I usually cut the throat. I'd rather not waste an arrow/broadhead. But I've also made the mistake of grabbing the buck to early and had my wrist pinned against the tree by a big ol' 9 point. Won't make that mistake again. I had to jab him in the chest about 6 times before I got my hand from under his rack. Live and learn!!!

I agree. There are some really dumb questions too like "How is your day going?". That's not a hunting question! It seems that some users are just on here to accumulate points.

Your obviously from N. of Lansing. I'm S. of Lansing and my average shot is also 50-100 yrds.

Always put the animal down, whether it is suffering or not. Gangegreen(???) will set in and also it affects the gene pool. Bucks that get shot or hit by a car and live often have mutated racks the next year and produce future bucks with genetic flaws.

In Clays situation, I call him on it. If the bolt is clean, that is indesputable proof he never touched the deer. If he argued it I would probably call the law. Clay, you say you might ruin this sportsman for life, well I personally think we don't need any sportsman for life like this jack*#$. All this does is incourage him to do this again, whos to say the next time he does this, it's not a kids first buck. I'd much rather lose some moron who doesn't have any hunting morals than some young hunter who just had his/her heart broke. Clay, you always have great opinions and answers but sorry man I got to disagree with you on this one.

I agree... that would be SWEET! Sometimes I have questions for some of the MI hunters, but don't want to bother everybody else out there.

MLH- I thought the DNR isuued a statement last deer season allowing eveyone who has any type of hunting license to shoot them if they see them and then report it??? I know there around, a fellow hunter shot one 2 yrs. ago 3 miles from my house.

Beekeepers right, there is alot we don't know about your set-up. The only thing I would suggest right now is to scout hard, without being seen, prior to season to find out where these bucks are coming from. A game camera is good for this. Are all these bucks coming from and going to the same spot? If so maybe you need to set up off of this runway. In my own experience, I try not to hunt the same stand more than 2 days in a row. I think your scent hovers around even after your gone in some way shape or form. Maybe they see you going in to your stand? There are a lot of factors that could be sessing you up.

Open sight .22 with a head shot. Using a sight is to easy. I went bowhunting for them once, but that was too expensive. Lost 2 arrows, one broke when it hit a stump, and the other went up the tree with squirrel and never got it back. I figured it was a dumb idea afterwards.

The backstraps and then the heart. The heart (cooked up like tenderloins and served with eggs for breakfast) is delicious, and we save the hearts at camp until we get 3-4 and then pickle them. Great with cheese and crackers.

Yep, big ol' squirrel pot pie. Yummm!!

Without a doubt North American Hunting Club. They cover such a broad range of hunting. They also have a gear review section, lot's of info on foodplots, and they print lots of thier members pictures. It's a good club to be a part of. They also have some of the best hunters working for them, such as Chuck Adams, Bob Robb and Dave Maas.

Yes, like buckhunter says..."Where are the pictures?" That's one hell of a buck. I'd love to see it. Do all of your fellow members a favor and show us what a true duke looks like. Congrats!!!!! Was it a farm or private land? Tell us the story.

No I haven't put myself in that situation.

At least a couple of times a year. Especially, when you get home from work and are scrambling to get your butt in the woods.

Buckmaster G2

Is this a hunting question or just a blog for high schoolers killing time?

I just got my cabelas spring catalog. They have a Trekker Classic Dome tent that sleeps 8 people for $150.00 and one that sleeps 6 that is $120.00. It sounds like they are closing them out so if you are interested I'd check it out soon.

You bow hunting or gun hunting? If your bow hunting, you're probably screwed. If gun hunting raise up and shoot. You should have time to raise up and get set to shoot while the initial commotion is going on. Then pick your shot.

Not if you buy some good quality arrows. Just like most stuff, the more you pay the better the quality.

No... usually they will go through 3 cycles, or until they become inpregnated. Usually they give birth from May to July (depending where you are at). Now as for antlers, I know that blood runs through the velvet, to help the antlers develop, but that's the extent of my knowledge. Hopefully, someone finishes this because I would also like to know.

Do you have a taxidermist picked out? My friend does my work, and out of courtesy, I ask him because from past experience, everybody seems to do something just a little bit different. Good Luck this spring!!!

Yes this works, it sounds a little unorthadox, but it does work. About 10 yrs. ago I had 2 bucks fighting in the woods and decided to sneak up on them. After about 15 minutes a nice fork horn and the bigger buck quit fighting and headed toward me. Had it not been the day before gun season, and I hadn't filled my bow tag, I wouldn't have shot the 14" forkhorn, but I did. Be scepticle if you want, but it does work. The old saying gos, don't knock it til you try it!!!!!!!!

Mine would be either Mepps or Panther Martin

StealthCam I540 IR

What's gigging?

There's always catfish, bullhead ,and carp.

Remington 16 gauge pump w/ open sites. borrowed it from the farmer next door.

Pros: Huge entrance hole, easy tracking, flies like a field tip, easy to change blades. Cons: Cost, hard to still hunt with (corn and branches often open up the blades), and won't blow through a shoulderblade.

Oh. Totally support it, it provides lots of food and cover the following few years. The paper companies clean out all those plots of land in the U.P. and a few years down the road, it provides a pretty good spot to hunt.

Sorry MLH I don't understand what your asking.

I generally try for a bird with a 10"+ beard, there are so many birds around here (I'm furtunate I know) that we can afford to let the jakes get big, and be patient for a good tom. I have yet to score a bird with my bow, that's my plan come April 20th here in MI.

I would like catch a Northern Pike on a fly rod or go on a bow shoot for the Asian Carp.

I don't think anyone was ignoring your question, we all just lack what your asking for. I know I'm not gonna answer something I have no knowledge of.

The AVS havn't been the same since they lost TURTLE LEMIEUX & Osgood whipped the snot out of Patty Roy, but Joe Sakic has always been the whip!

Yes, except for the road races. Pretty boring! The race here in Michigan is pretty boring too! Not much to our track. Talledaga and Bristol are a blast to watch.

Oh ya, go Red Wings!!!! I played juniors in Sarnia, Canada and Saginaw MI. N. Dakota is a perenial powerhouse, great program there. Gotta root for Michigan and Michigan State though... sorry!

Wolves in the U.P. of MI, turkeys are starting to do alot of crop damage where I live too. Especially when they are competing with the deer for food.

Toss it, catfish and carp need to eat too. Way cheaper than paying fines.

Where I live in MI, if you call the DNR they might make it out within 10hrs. but probably not. Not any anti-hunters around, but way to many violators. The DNR would rather concentrate on the water for easier violations, rather than have to go pursue someone in the woods.

Red & white

Rage 2-blade 100gr. for whitetail and ThunderHead 100gr. for turkeys. What about you "lovetohunt" (MI)?

Tiffany sure is soft on the eyes! When I was a kid it was Mort Neff. Also the old Fred Bear videos of him bowhunting pheasants with a longbow or recurve.

Blacker than the Ace of Spades. None of that weak stuff though, my wife buys the whole bean 8o'clock, or the starbucks house blend. 2 cups of that and I'm up the rest of the day.

jamesti is right... here in MI they both work great on trout, bass, and all panfish. Everyone should have atleast a couple different colors and sizes of each. Also the largest red and white, and the black and yellow bucktail work great on northern pike.

I agree with everyone... no mechanicals only fixed blades, make sure your window is open enough so you don't shoot through it, and my blind says not to shoot a gun through it or it will catch fire.

Never hunted outside of Michigan, lots of game, deer herd needs work. Our doe to buck ratio is horrible. We also have bear, elk, bobcat, pheasant, quail, grouse, squirrel(fox & grey/black), turkey, fox, coyote, rabbit(cottontail & snowshoe), and pretty much every freshwater gamefish in the states. Plus if you trap, we have beaver, otter, mink, and muskrat.

I'm a member of NAHC since 02' and have recieved items every year. They start you out small and you slowly get gear better in quality. My last 2 products to test were Scentlok Baseslayers (full outfit, even head cover) and a Therma-Cell mosquito dispencer. I've also got a lantern. You have to fill out a fieldtester profile, once you get your item you have to fill out the questionair and send it back in. Then you have to fill out another fieldtester profile. The only thing is, when I started doing it, I would get something every 8-10 months and it's going on 13 now. Seems to be getting longer and longer everytime, but it's worth it.

They are always a month behind, you should get it next month. Be prepared though, Outdoor Life likes to copy F&S. They are from the same publishing company and I think they mimic F&S from cover to cover. If you go to their website, it's almost identicle to F&S.

Absolutely, you'll notice the difference. I agree with Del in KS, a mid priced one is all you need. Try it you'll like it!

I think Michigans Upper Peninsula was on that list also. I was just up there for the muzzleloading hunt in Dec. and shot a dandy 9-point. If you want a challenge and access to thousands of acres of prime hunting ground(National Forests) and no hunting pressure, I'd go there my friend. I'll be back next year. Just bring a quad or snowmobile, probably the later depending on the snow. There are awesome ceder swamps to hunt but if you don't have away to get back in the woods 2-5 miles your really limited to where you can hunt!

I'm a michigander! I hunt deer, rabbit, squirrel, bear(when I get another tag/5 points and counting), pheasant, and turkey. Maybe bobcat this next winter.

No prarie dogs here in Michigan, but we hunt cottontails with bows every winter. What a blast!!! Still it's hard not to lose a couple of arrows in the snow, you just try to remember where you lost them and check back in the springtime while looking for sheds and Morels.

I usually get both magazines within a week of each other and that's around the 3rd week of the month. I find they have alot of similar articles... almost like they are from the same publishing co. but I'm not sure about that!
