Q:How old do you think a boy should be before you take him hunting?

I first went hunting with my dad when I was four years old. Now i know that some of you think that is way too young, but it showed me a lot about waiting patiently and my dad taught me how to kill, very slowly, but he taught me. At about 6, he would aim and hold the gun and allow me to pull the trigger. This allowed me to be a part of the experience and let me have a sense of pride that i took part in putting meat on the table. After that, he would let me "Stand guard against bobcats and poachers" while he went to go get the truck. Again making me feel like i had really helped him out and getting me more and more interested in hunting. Taking me out in the rut was also a wonderful time to teach me about where babies come from (i was 11). I was 9 years old when i shot my first deer and by the age of 14, i could hunt by myself as my father taught me sportsmanship and safety at such a young age.

Venison jerky on the water and when im hunting, before we go out, we make biscuits and fry little pieces of ham and snack on them in the stand. The are great and even better cold.
.22, either rifle with scope or pistol with open sights. It allows me to practice my woodsmanship for deer season, it ruins the meat if you shoot them with a shotgun, and it also is a lot less sporting.
Whenever i shoot them; ill clean them righgt quick and throw them in the skillet for a snack or lunch if i shot 2.

Les Stroud all the way. How can a man experience the true feeling of isolation and loneliness that occurs in most survival situations when they have an entire film crew with them? And he is a FAKE!! He was caught! I got Les Stroud's book "Survive! Essential Skills and Tactics to Get You Out of Anywhere-Alive" for Christmas and it was both informative and a very entertaining read. Even though he is from Canada, I will have to go with Les Stroud on this one as he is just too much of a beast for anyone to argue that he is the best.

I have used both and there good points for each. Cabela's has a better selection, better prices, amazing customer service (including an all-american calling center), and their website is more user-friendly. Bass pro's only plus is that if you have a question about something you purchased, there is a better chance a bass pro is somewhere in your area than a cabelas. personally i would go cabelas all the way! if you dont like it after you use it, you can send it back!

under NO circumstance should you take a shot at a bird flying that low. It is very very dangerous to your other hunters. Even if you are by yourself there might be other wildlife (such as deer) behind it that you could harm. It is extremely unethical and irresponsible.
I love it because it gives me a place to relax and get away from the hastles of everyday life. No school, no work, no cell phone, no homework; nothing but the sound of nature, the fire flickering, fresh caught bluegill sizzling on the skillet, pure heaven.

I would definately let a first time hunter have it. It does not matter how hard it would be (especially if it was a big buck), because we need more hunters in this nation. I dont know what the law says about it, but there will always be more deer (hopefully) but that one incident could ruin a first-time hunter's view of hunting forever and cause him never to go again.

Benelli Nova 20ga. bought it 4 years ago after growing tomatoes in my backyard and selling them around the neighborhood. It was the first realy purchase i had ever made and i was so proud. There is something about buying a gun with your own money you got from working hard that is so great. Looking at it now, im glad my parents dont have enough money to buy my hunting and fishing supplies because i will be a lot better off than other people my age whose parents give them everything they want.
I definately agree with beekeeper and also the easiest way in my opinion is that if it has sunken features, saggy skin, and a pot belly it is an old deer. i just picture my grandpa as a deer and there you have it! :)
It depends on the hunter's individual efficiency at such shots. They certainly should not be attempted in the field before numerous shots at that distance at the range with a rifle whose caliber would be sufficient for such distances and quality optics for said distance.

many squirrels, but towards the end of this past deer season, after watching about 6 blue birds dart back in forth in the air playing with each other, one just decided to make a break for the man shaped tree and veer off at the last second to land on a limb right beside me. It scared me but that was the most bluebirds i have ever seen at once and the closest ive ever been to one.

Do it yourself, Why pay someone else to do something you can do yourself? seems to me like another excuse for americans to get lazy. We used to be self sufficient and now we are so dependent on foreign nations for so much. If China's money loaned to the US was converted into stock, they would own approximately 30% of America. And obama wants to borrow money from other countries to boost our economy...

I used a .410 for dove and rabbits with minimal success (except on an exceptional dove hunt but that was due to the land). To be honest i think a 20guage would do much better. up until now i have used a 20 guage for everything, the ammo is cheaper and it will kill a turkey just as good in your terrain as a 12 if not better. it is also generally lighter and would be easier to lug aroung in a mountainous terrain and a shorter barrel would be good for thick brush. Hope this helps!

The velvet is the antlers maturing and growing. As they core hardens, the velvet basically dies (like a callous or dead skin) so the bucks rub it off and actually eat it to gain more nutrients and protein.
