T/C Encore, currently chambered in 45-70. One of the best things about the gun is it's versatility, for half the price of a new pistol you can buy a new barrel in a different caliber.

I've had my best luck with top water poppers (hula-popper) and with Rat-L-Traps. Getting the lure to the bass is half the battle so make sure to keep something weedless in your tackle box as well.
I've heard vaseline around the area will make them pull their head out as well. Any feedback on this?

Ignorance is our worst enemy... I also love when the media reports on someone having "an arsenal of weapons" in their house, come to find out they have 5 guns (in this case it was a 3 modest rifles and 2 shotguns) in his house. What would they say if they found a real gun room?

I haven't had any problems with them in my 30-06, I use 150, 165 and 180's, even bought a box in 220 to see how it grouped out of the gun and it was fine.

I have tried for a week, but I usually am able to escape from work to do a night or two every year to keep the necessary skills honed. Every experience is a little different and the more you can get out there and try the more efficient you'll be in case you ever need to. P.S. Make sure to try it in the snow as well. However, make sure your not too far away from the car and have more than what you would usually carry. I was almost put in a real survival situation by a storm that was supposed to be 6-10 inches and ended up being 2 and 1/2 feet.

Sorry to hear that. Its good to hear he's trying now and has not given up. I came from a similar situation. The damage is done, and it'll never be the same. However , my best experiences with my father were in the outdoors, hunting and fishing. It was the only time I really got to spend with him. I continue to hunt and fish and it is a good combination of excitement and tranquility with many memories.

My trout fishing in PA (coudersport/emporium area) has been limited to streams. My best luck on spinners has been with a variety of colors and sizes of panther martin. Casted upstream with a fast retrieve. I like a gold phoebe fished the same way as well. When all else fails I switch to a worm, and when nothing else is working they seem to do well.

Depending on where you are fishing and how much gear you want to carry. Lately I've been fishing from a friends kayak and love it. Kayak fishing has it's pros and cons of course. Some things to note obviously less expensive, Don't need a boat launch. You can't cover as much water, and you can't carry as much gear.

L.L. Bean is a good company. I work at the Albany NY store, and the discount can make it difficult not to spend the whole paycheck on the latest gear.

The important thing is to pick what will work best for you and the environment you are using it in. I use a Remington 700 in 30-06 with a Leupold VX-II 2-7x33mm because that is what I feel is best tailored for my situation. Some important questions to think of when making your decision... What range will most of your shots be taken? A .270 has a flatter trajectory than a 30-06 Will the weight of the gun be an issue? Still hunting weight is not an issue, a long stalk you will notice it. What are you comfortable shooting/is the recoil an issue? A 12 gauge Shotgun will kill a deer as well as a 25-06 What is your price range? for both the gun and Scope. Be careful as with most things you tend to get what you pay for. Are there any legal limitations on where you are hunting? In one of the areas I hunt the use of a rifle was prohibited. What kind of action do you want? Bolt, Lever, Semi-auto all have their uses in hunting. Is this going to be solely a deer rifle or will you use it for multiple types of game? I chose my rifle for its ability to be used against multiple types of game. ... Sorry for the long winded response, but your question was a little vague. Lastly and most importantly: Our suggestions are not the end all be all. It is your decision and it is you who will end up loving or hating it.

I prefer to tent, and I love the Adirondacks. I usually combine my outings with a good hike beforehand. There are a lot of campsites along the hiking trails, some of them even have shelters. Look in hiking books, from there you can select trails in your area and see what they have to offer for campsites.

What would be the best way to solve this? Make the message board feature easier to navigate? Maybe a +1 or -1 for the question itself, that way we could cut out the sasquatch yeti ridiculousness by having a way for them to lose points. My other thought would be for a way to leave messages for an individual user. That way if I have a comment or question Specifically for one or just a few individuals it could be taken care of without clogging up any of the forums... What do you think? and how can we get F&S to make a change to their website?

Agreed, I prefer the 2x7 over the 3x9. I hunt in upstate New York and all of my shots have been less than 300 yards. The 2x gives you the ability to find the target faster and helps with a running target. The only times I used above 7x on my 3x9 is to double as a spotting scope at the range.

I whole heartedly agree with shane. For your situation I would go with the 1-4x or 1-5.5x with regular rings. As far as what company to look into, it depends on your price range... If you can afford it go with a Leupold,
Blocks of ice, use an old soda can or tupperware container and then freeze. Fun, free, and no clean up!
