Toxicity in fish is measured in parts per million (ppm) and fish absorb toxins through their gills and their food. So yes and no. They can be eaten, but why not get them from a clean lake. Imagine the pollution you could be consuming. Their meat isn't bad in the sense that it is spoiled, but it will have toxins in it if the water does and may make it taste funny. So for an example, if the fish you catch is breathing in radioactive water and eating radioactive waste, then you eat that fish, my sources say you are eating radioactive waste too.

Yup, did that one on Monday. Caught a few trout.

Politics, money and democrats. a bad combo to our gun rights.

Not sure what to comment about this one. I sure don't agree with Obama on a lot of things, but...In the words of Trace Adkins, "If you say one word 'bout my dog, this flag, or my country...them there's fightin' words."

This one in .460 Mag http://www.weatherby.com/product/rifles/markv/deluxe. Big and beautiful.

The Oakley M-Frame has nice wrap-around type glasses. If you watch baseball, they're the kind that most of the players wear, so they're good. I have the non-polarized kind and I used them all last summer on the river and they worked great. The lens I have is the black iridium lens. check out the site: http://oakley.com/pd/2023/5393

My favorite is the Oakley M-Frame. The lenses are made to be interchangeable. They come in polarized and non polarized. They are very durable, comfortable, and wont fall off. I can go on and on on this, but the important thing is how concerned you are with real polarization. Polarization is a process where they line up the molecules in the glass to face the same direction so that light can only pass through certain directions. If you look at the glass from an angle it will be totally black. It's kinda cool, but this is one of those situations where you get what you pay for and Oakley's aren't cheap for a reason.

Is it bad when you have a maxed credit card solely for the purpose of buying new gear? Or does that mean it's time for a new card...for more new gear?

Four months on both of 'em. But I wish it was longer.

Not sure how yall feel, but I say I'm an American and I'll carry a gun when I want to carry a gun. No desk jockey yuppie hippie....is gonna sit there and tell me I can't. He can try, but chances are I wont listen.

It's an illegal scent, but fish do love it, so be careful, but I think it would be a good idea.

Actually, I have a Romanian training rifle bolt-action .22. I'm not sure what model, i think model 60. I bought it for under 100 bucks and they can handle a beating and have excellent iron sights. It is an old gun (made in the 70s) but it shoots just as well as a nwe fancy gun that costs over 2x as much.

I am very much attached to my 1911 .45. I think it is a great gun for home protection and it is a very fun gun to shoot. It is also one of the easiest guns to fix, get parts for, and customize. they run a little on the expensive side, but it is worth the cost. The other thing i like about then is the angle of the grip to the barrel. It is very ergonomic and it allows fast and easy aiming. However, this gun is just a little big for my conceal preferences. I have shot a Glock and really do not prefer them. I would not recommend a small caliber like a 9mm for home protection either. the bullets are too small and travel too fast to do the damage that is desired in a home protection situation. But as was recommended before, go to a shooting range where you can test different pistols/revolvers and see what you like best, because you really do need to be comfortable shooting what you have when things are tense. One last note, and a very important one at that: my concealed weapon instructor told us that unless you can make the decision to shoot and kill someone right now, do not carry a concealed weapon. In a defense situation, any hesitation could allow the attacker to disarm you and use the gun against you. best of luck picking a gun and have fun.

I have had the best luck from powerbait when it comes to hatchery fish. but as the guy above mentioned, have a choice in baits.

In Oregon it's not illegel to own one or posses (non-concealed) if you have parental permission, and beer is easy.

Clay Cooper for prsident

I know that Nosler was the first to produce and/or patent the ballistic tip. I believe he got the idea from his experience in hollow point ammunition.

I wear camo every day like it's going out of style. So, hunting is just a chance to wear more. Why would you want to turn this wonderful opportunity down?

Yes people are working on it and it is possible. We talked about this a year or so in my bioengineering class. I sure as hell wouldn't buy it, but I guarantee you PETA members would.

Why is this a question? Nugent is an American bad a$$. Ted, white and blue.

I guess I need to grow up (not really) but I absolutely love my Lamiglas Cascade Pro. It's 8'6" medium/light action and can handle 20# steelies. it performs like nothing else I've ever held. Oh, and I use a spinning reel.

They have worm farm starter kits at Wal-Mart and stuff. How big do you want it? Is it just for you? These kits are more than enough for one person.

That's not an analogy, son. That right there's the truth!

In this years feb. issue, there was a great article. I suggest getting a hold of that. It's a great article full of good info and it's easy to read and understand. I think you might be able to find it in the archive section.

The thing these people don't realize is the F&S people read your posts when deciding to give out free or test gear. When they gave the tents to Del In KS this month, The specifically said it was partly because his posts were very helpful. So, chances are, these people who are trying to find that loophole in the site will not benefit from their annoyances.

Damn right! Not a better way to put it. In order to call yourself an American, act like one. Don't just live here and think that will suffice. I think it's sad to see that it takes something like 9/11 to rally our country's patriotism. Being an American means a lot of things to each in themselves, but One of those definitions should always be pride, and our country should never be taken for granted.

I wouldn't feel comfortable shooting one with a .22 past 100 yds.

Act quick! no joke, primers and other things for reloading are getting to be very hard to come by these days. The new admin has been keeping gun sales so high, nearly all the shelves of ammo are empty. Clay Cooper just posted a few days ago that he got the last primers available in the northern part of his state.

If I had a pair I would!

I've caught between 20 and 30 between fresh and salt water sport fish. I've been lucky to have a stepfather who shared his passion of the sport with me since I was three. So, we've been on quite a few fishing trips in the 18 years I've known him.

I was told by the rep that the boulder was built to withstand the toilet bowl. So??? not too sure, but I'm not willing to try it.

My grandpa bought a 1911 in '78 for $225 brand new. They sell for almost 3 times that now.

The Casio Boulder from Verizon. It is built to military specs so its water proof, drop proof and dirt proof. It also has a nice built in compass which is very accurate. This is the only fone I've had that I cant break.

Not sure if i'd pick petzel or not. I do like the gun reviews he is constantly posting.

Like clay, I'm not in it for the gear, but to learn and what not. But actually, yes, I have noticed that sometimes when you post a question or something that my score does not change. A few minor points though and life goes on.

Seriously! My dad just bought my little brother a cricket (kids .22). The dang thing was $200! I can get a decent used .22 for half that not to mention the possibilities of getting a new full sized one for less still.

Actually, maybe still Montana. Hard decision.

Definitely Wyoming. I'm in the wind turbine industry, so it would be perfect.

Stick your hands in your pants.

I like to try something that I think would never work, something ugly.

I use the spruce fly. I drift fish a lot for steelies on the Deschutes in Oregon and they seem to like it the best.

Hey guys, this is under bow hunting, which I know nothing about.

Just curious, Rackattackman, does this happen to be your own product?

Kind of an odd trick... Sounds like it might work

When Obama was elected, gun sales increased 50% nationwide. Ed P, I live in The Dalles, OR and your guess is right. We have a reason to worry. Obama has elected the most anti-firearm cabinet in history.

VT, it's not. Great question buckhunter. According to Obama, we need a stimulus plan. Where does all the money come from? Thin air. How is it backed? By the word of the government. As a result of making more money, more debt is incurred and thus, the value of the dollar goes down. So, my question to Mr. Obama is this: You say you want to stimulate the economy and help the lower class. How is this possible when the money I am making is becoming increasingly devalued by your doing?

Damn right. Have you ever seen Zeitgeist?

Oregon

I have always heard it called a .45 long colt and the 1911 called a .45 colt. it kinda clears confusion i guess.

I never really knew there was a difference. I have always known them casually as clips and that names were interchangeable.

peacemaker is a great gun and you can't go wron with a great gun

A 4wd AMERICAN truck. I don't think you want to put your deer carcass in the cab of your SUV. I'd go with the big cab long bed. Bigger is better and Americans are great with that.

I haven't shot them, but I've heard they are pretty nice.

There's this stuff called money and the saying goes that money talks...the rest is history.

Fishing. It is the most relaxing thing for me.

Remington and AA's

Federal and hand load

45 pound Dorado Cabo, Mexico

You could fry it. haha. I have no idea.

No, it hasn't failed, it's just become a place to send your children until they are legally able to be on their own. Kids, if you plan on going to college, you're in for a rude awakening.

I'm having the same problem as rrmont

I would have to say these guns are both equal as far as reliability and accuracy goes. I prefer the browning because i think it looks and feels better. Its a little lighter, but also a little more expensive than the 700. Go with the one that you like better and you will be happy with it.

Clay, you are full of infinite quotes...On this note, I'm going to go buy another gun.

This is an ad for the Navy Seals. If school taught me anything, this means they're on the beach.

As far as I know, this is a pump-action shotgun. I fail to interpret the word "bolt".

It's on like Donkey Kong in Oregon. At the gun show in Portland a couple months back, The assault rifle salesmen had to restock before the first day was over.

21 and I don't remember

When you no longer have a wife.

The juke box played a sad song that made Bubba cry, so he went to his truck and got a .45.

Wow I got mine (March) on the 18th. I guess I'm special.

(Last weekend's experience; I just turned 21) When a drunk married lady at the young age of 42 and twice your size tells you shes taking you home. Oh, and she's here alone because it's v-day and her husband wouldn't come with her (he's at home)

David, first, on your profile it says this is one of two questions you have posted. Second, the types of questions you may have asked might have been too specific, or involving something that the majority of people have no knowledge in. I guarantee you the users of this site would have answered if they were capable.

When the rules are suddenly switched to, "If it walks, it dies."

Remington makes a cheap single barrel break-action for about $100 that you can pick up at Big-5. It's a good gun and works fine for me, but I'm no pro at trap shooting.

Ya I got one of them M44's. I can't find any "cheap" ammo, but the best deal is on J&G sales. http://www.jgsales.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=7.62+x+54r&search_in_description=1&osCsid=abb739902daf274f3c565b50037b5872&x=0&y=0. It's less expensive bulk ammo. Just be careful because the ammo is left over from WWII I think. I had some shells in my last order that has cracked cases and therefore wouldn't load or wouldn't give enough back pressure and the bullet would get stuck in the barrel. There was only like 10 in a 400 rd box though.

I had a similar situation with fishing. I took my little brothers steelhead fishing and got them both a fish. They were only like 8 yrs old so I figured they didn't need a tag and that I needed to put it on my own. Wrong! Little kid harvest tags are $6 and everyone has to have one. A sheriff watched us from a mile away on a spotting scope. He asked me about my fish and i told him the truth. In the end, He let me off with a warning and we got to keep the fish. However, he was not fully aware of all the rules either. I was fishing in an area that allowed 3 steelhead to be kept and I had 2. He tried to write me a ticket for fishing after my limit until I showed him the regs. Moral is tell the truth and know the rules.

Also, a quick note, I believe the rules say that F&S reviews your profile (what you have your points from and the usefulness of your posts and answers) when determining if they want you to do field tests. So ultimately, if getting gear is your reason for getting points, do it the real way because it does matter.

Your local farm and tractor supply shop should carry some.

Typically, a carbine barrel is shorter and is for closer range shots. A longer barrel provides more accuracy at a longer range, but can slow the muzzle velocity if it is too long. For example: In WWII, the Russians produced 2 guns. One was the M44 and the other was the M91/30. They were virtually the same gun, however, The M91/30 had an extra 4" on the barrel. The M44 carbine was given mostly to ground troops and the M91/30 was given mostly to sharp-shooters and snipers.

I know the best is the .45 ACP 1911. not sure about any others.

Trout/salmon species also like colder waters. I'm not sure what temp is best for fishin though. The colder the water is, the more oxygen in the water. this is why they move into the inlets or mouths of smaller rivers when traveling through large river systems.

It's pretty easy. You can buy kits online and find all the info you need. The starter kits and juice can be expensive, but one you get started, the next batches get a lot less expensive.

You can't go wrong with either, but I think the A-Bolt has better balance and to me it feels better. It is also a little more spendy. But like the other guys said, the 700 is a great gun.

definitely buck fever. Unless the gun had a new poorly boar sighted scope, which I highly doubt.

I agree with buckhunter too. I like to use the treble hooks with the coil they tend to hold bait on longer.

Oh, and as far as penetration goes, that also depends on the rounds. FMJ or solid lead will penetrate much more than a hollow point. Keep in mind also, that the 45 ACP is a large bullet with a slow-er (keyword slower with -er emphasized) muzzle velocity than a 9mm and is therefore less penetrating and more damaging.

.45 ACP is probably second best to .357 for the "one shot drop". However, these calibers of pistol run large and heavy. A 1911 even in Colt's Commander size is still to large for the likes of me. If you are looking for a self defense weapon, for concealed carry, I would have to say a .38 Special snub-nose is my favorite. It is light, versatile and has much better stopping power compared to a 9mm. Like Kolbster said, though, by my bed I would have a .45 ACP hands down.

Ya keep in mind them sons a guns can be hard to kill. I've taken some that withstood 3 hollow-point .22's through the vitals before I knocked 'em down. Then they hiss and crap and stink so skin em quick.

https://secure.palmcoastd.com/pcd/eServ?iServ=MDg5MTA0NzI0OQ== . try this link. its under the contact us button at the top of the page. I'm pretty sure you can just email them too. all the info is under contact us.

Hey check this out. I used to put out a trash bag with lots of smelly garbage in it. then I would sit on my porch at night with my .22 and wait till the possums come out. I got one on my wall right next to my computer, no lie.

You can look up Rattlesnake Avoidance Training and hopefully it will help

Actually, if you live in rattler or other snake country, many experienced dog trainers provide classes for dogs that specifically train them to stay away from snakes. They work very well. I used to live in the deserty outskirts of San Diego, where rattlers are almost a daily experience. I trained my dog, and he's still bite free today. I would recommend doing this for all dogs regardless, it's worth it.

Survivorman is hands-down the best show. I couldn't stand even five minutes of man vs wild. Survivorman just has it all and is very knowledgeable without sounding like he's reading cards.

The people in general fear what they do not know. Most people in today's society do not know much about guns, in particular, handguns. With the media in the picture, things only get worse. Stories spread about Columbine, Virginia Tech, and the local 7-11 that got robbed at gun point. Where is the comfort in that? So, what is not comfortable amongst the population becomes a fear where the only way to regain comfort is to make it disappear by any means necessary. This includes, but is not limited to electing a politician (and subsequently many more to his cabinet) who strictly opposes the 2nd amendment. This is where I stop because further discussion of people infringing on my rights pisses me off. I hate unAmerican "Americans" (ie people who try to adjust my rights by changing the constitution to fit their needs.)

Just an analogy: Put 50 trout in a small swimming pool. Then take your bare hook and stick it in the water. When you hook a fish and pull it out of the pool say, "well looky here what I caught!" Did you really go fishing? Yes. However, I wouldn't call you a fisherman. Now apply that to this deer situation.

First, guns don't possess a threat to society; people lacking firearm knowledge and experience kill people by use of guns. The public is safer with guns, because if everyone has one, who then would be brave enough to use one? Richard Henry Lee, signer of the Declaration of Independence once said, "To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them." and Patrick Henry said, "Are we at last brought to such an humiliating and debasing degradation that we cannot be trusted with arms of our own defense? Where is the difference between having our arms under our own possession and under our own direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?"

Check out this book: Standard Catalog Of Firearms 2009 by Dan Shideler. It is a great resource for finding gun values (old or new). It runs about $40 so I wouldn't buy it unless you really wanted to. I would check it out at your local Barnes & Noble, or your local gun shop should have one (for consignment purposes). I have been referring this book to a lot of people, but it's a great book.

I would agree matches are easier. However, when your last match blows out, then what? I would recommend carrying both or if you don't have room, take the flint. It doesn't exactly carry a strike capacity.

Picadilly. Greatest female dog name around.

My buddy has one. It is just a super powerful .30 caliber rifle that eats expensive ammo. But if you've got the money... He uses it in central California to take out pig at long distances (600+ yards). so, if this is the type of thing you are into, I would say why not get it... bigger is better.

There's a great article in the February '09 issue of F&S. It's on page 45. I would assume that it applies to all areas, but weather and climate may have some bearing on when the animals shed. The article said feb-march are the best times. the article is a great resource, so I recommend reading it.

It's on page 70 of the February '09 issue of F&S. Hope that's what you're looking for.

Actually, funny story. I was in 7th grade in Idaho and our science class had the opportunity to create a trout spawning ground in a tank. the hatchery brought the male/female fish and we squeezed the stuff out of them into dishes. I made a smart comment about eating the eggs which led to a dare (brought on by the hatchery employees) so trying to be a stud I ate some of the eggs. They were actually tolerable and no sickness came about. So I would say if it gets ya goin, squeeze 'em and eat 'em.
