It sure does to me! I have a few that look just like that and they are supposed to be authentic Indian arrow heads.

Well it’s gonna be tough to top the New Mexico mulie that we got to ogle the other day, but this photo proves that the early stages of the ’09 season aren’t just for Western deer.

Stunning animal! I've never seen one like this guy in the woods.

  • Chad Love: RIP, Nameless Rodent

There's a point in the life of every kid raised around hunting or animals when the anthropomorphized innocence of childhood meets the hard reality of predator and prey.

For farm kids, it might be the reality of growing animals for food. For hunting kids, it's  probably the first game animal they kill. And for hunting kids who are not yet quite old enough to hunt the point can be graphically illustrated by housecats and hamsters.

Great story! Reality is what an honest and concern parent will always promote. You did a good job!

  • Discussion Topic: Levi Says Sarah Palin Doesn’t Hunt
    28

In a new Vanity Fair story, Levi Johnston (Bristol Palin’s ex-boyfriend and father of her child) is slamming Sarah Palin. Besides exposing a laundry list of shortcomings related to subjects typically covered by The New York Times (like Taco Bell’s Crunchwrap Supreme, see below), he also claims: That ex-governor don’t hunt.

From The Washington Post’s “The Reliable Source” blog:

"She says she goes hunting and lives off animal meat -- I've never seen it.

I have seen pictures of Palin shooting and a video of her shoot a military style weapon. In the photos she shoulders the guns well and has a shooters stance. I doubt very much that this woman can't handle a firearm. Mr. Johnson is being led around by the nose by the hollywood left and isn't bright enough to recognize that the flame burns out quickly.

Congratulations! Great looking animal. I assume that this is all that you can hunt or can you take more.

  • Petzal: A Parting Thought on Senator Kennedy
    178

Now that the news is all Ted, all the time (which at least is a relief from all Michael, all the time) and the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy is on his way to being Saint Teddy, we should remember that he was an implacable enemy of the Second Amendment, and that there never was an anti-gun law he did not like. Kennedy blamed guns for his brothers’ deaths. The reality is a little different.

Nothing more about Ted but about Bella. Bella always takes a stance for the 2nd amendment. She obviously has very liberal leanings but loves to shoot and own firearms. A very odd combination at least in my life experience. I've always found that people who are liberal in the though process tend to be very frighten of virtually everything. Just a few years ago I stopped to help two men who were broken down with a flat tire. They had a Dukakis sticker on the rear bumper and a Mass. license plate. They had no clue how to even assemble the jack to start the process. I ask if I could help and practically got a tearful response. One of them got into the car and the other stood with his hand on the driver side door. I changed the tire in silence and stored the jack and closed the trunk. The driver had slipped into the seat and the car was started and they drove away. No conversation, no parting wave, no thank you, only fear. This is what I see from all the liberal crowd here-fear. I don't see fear in Bella at all, I only see strong conviction. I rarely agree with her but am constantly reminded when I read her thoughts that many people see things absolutely differently than I do. Paying attention to others and tying to see the other side is never the wrong approach. We learn when we listen. Listening may reinforce what we already believe or it may tear a tiny hole in the bag we surround our selves with. Keep them coming Bella!

  • Bourjaily: Pizza Chain Helps Young Hunters
    32

My wife is a half-Italian native of the Jersey Shore, and while there are many things she’s learned to like about the Midwest in 25 years living here, our pizza is not one of them. It is, she tells me, too cheesy, too greasy, inadequately spiced and utterly without nuance.

Grudgingly, I have to admit she’s right.  The pizza Pam grew up with in the east is way better than what we have out here. So, mostly we go without.

Congratulations to Pizza Ranch for their commitment to hunting. They are not located in my area or I would definitely spend my money there. I live in Maine and I've never tasted a good pizza!

  • Bourjaily: Gas Guns for More Doves
    36

I once mentioned to a southerner that in Iowa where I live, mourning doves are protected songbirds.* “Ain’t worth livin’ there,” he said. Every year, on September 1, I think he might be right. Unless I manage a trip out of state, I am stuck on the sidelines for the biggest opening day of the season, rooting for all of you who are lucky enough to live where doves can be hunted.

No dove season here in Maine. I don't know why either because there are doves everyplace. I could shoot dozens standing in my driveway!
