shooting running deer is something that happens all the time around here i would shoot

they wouldn't allow buckshot if it didn't get the job done. with a 20ga loaded with buckshot 50-60 yards i have even heard of people shooting deer at 100 yards with a 20 gauge loaded with buckshot.the only thing is they cut the tops of the shells off and shaked out all the packing and filled it with hot wax i have seen them shoot the shells before they hold a good pattern out to distance of 80 yards that what they were target praticing at but about every 5 shots they swabbed the barrell.never seen what its does to a deer though.

i think hunting in the snow is the best time to hunt we hardly ever get snow the last time i was able to hunt the snow was about 6 years ago most of the time it never sticks but we get freak snow storm every few years but in the snow you can see deeper in the woods the deer are grouped up and most of the time on the move and if you do get a shot off tracking is easy the slightest drop of blood you can find it

my scariest moment i was walking in to my stand during the rut i did not have any liquid scents or any atraction scents just me and for some reason a buck bluff charged me i backed up against a big oak tree click off my safety and listened to that deer paw at ground and snort and blow at me for what i thought was hours but it lasted about 10 minutes and would you have it that deer troted off minutes before light i never seen him one time during the whole thing but by the grunts i would say it was an old deer i looked around after the sun came up and a few times he was only feet from me the ground was tore up about 7 feet from the tree out 30 yards away

150 bucks for 12 gauge charles daly brand new from walmart found out later it would only pull federal 3 1/2 inch shells out of the tube it would not pull winchester or remington shells out fo the tube. winchester and remington are just alittle taller than federal shells and that little bit jams the gun

zoom flukes are my all time bait i go 2 pink or white work best for rig them on lightweight rod and a hook that is it and then just kind of dart them threw the water with a flick of the wrist and you got fish

one time muzzleloader hunting somebody moved in alittle to close for me and he had no clue i was there we are not required to wear blaze orange during this season but i always keep a blaze orange hat with me so i put it on and moved across the field and sat with my buddy he fell asleep and i watch 23 turkeys in the field and turkeys season was in with a muzzleloader i never woke him up but moved in position to take my shot and the turkeys took off running and flying i just knew they saw me move but little did i know about 10 seconds after the turkeys took off a massive 8-10 pointer bailed out of the woods on full out run i woke him up i told hugh buck on the run and we watched the deer run right where i was sitting after it got dark we walked over to see just how far it really was the deer stopped and walked 20 yards past where i was on the ground it would have been the biggest deer i have ever shot so that was my moment now i wish i would have stood my ground.

if you put the time in you can train any dog to be a bird dog it may not come as easy to the dog as it would to the traditional breeds of bird dogs but you can train any dog to do anything

when the dogs are in the woods around here running shots is all we get if i didnt take running shots i would not get a shot off during the general firearm season so yeah i am comfortable shooting running deer

a combo of both can work really well a mature doe scent with a young buck scent will really bring in that big boy

when the fish are not biting as much do to the water temp dropping i switch to a pigNjig.your worms will still work but what ever speed you work them slow it down by 10times you just wanna barely move it across the bottom

a lighter is best but i saw alittle tool to start called a fire piston you can do some research a find them on the net they are pretty cool you can make one at home i am getting the rest of the stuff i need to make myself one

see i say hunt with what you like and what does best for you.i like the 209 primers they burn hotter and faster then precussion and flintlock i like to be able to pull the trigger and know the gun will go off and not just a pop and the deer runs off but like i said you what does best for you i give out respect to guys who use flintlock

alot of hunting clubs around here have a 5 gallon buck rule if the deers rack can fit in a 5 gallon buck you just got fined 50 dollars and the same with a doe you get fined they have certain doe days and when you kill one the club gets the tenderloin and then at the end of the year they cook it all up but you still have to pay for the meal weather you eat it or not plus its a 1000 a year just to join the club

when i go up the tree in my climber i put a bungie cord around the back of my feet and hook it on the stand that way the bottom part cant not slide of my feet after i get up in the tree where i want i take the bungie cord off and hook on one side bring it around the tree and hook it on the other side this keeps the bottom peice pretty much locked in to the tree you can also tie a rope from the top part of the stand to the bottom part so it cant drop but so far

i have 2 midlands that my firend and i use my mo and dad have 2 cobras and i talk to them plus i pick alot of chatter from clubs and other hunters

yeah all that sight in 1 inch high at 50 yards and your zeroed in at 100 i dont do none of that i sight in at 100 hards with the muzzleloader and shoot to 50 yards see where bullet hits and then i shoot out 150 yards and see where my bullet hits and then i aim alittle high or aim alittle low

i got the old blood smear before i ever got my first deer dad always put me to work on tracking the deer if need be and i always did the draggin and when it came to cleaning them i had that job to and that was all before i started hunting. i did everything a hunter normally would do before i ever pulled the trigger

the farmers property we hunt we are lucky he ask for nothing in return except that we harvest every deer we see like he said it dont matter how big or how small they all eat beans-peanuts and corn. we have offered him meat many times but he turns it down he said he had enough deer meat growing up as a kid.the farmer also asked that we harvest any and all coyotes because they are going around and biteing the tails off the cows and they may get infection from it the cows are his money crop so we look out for them.

it depend on what bait you are using really with crankbaits-spinnerbaits-buzzbaits and so on the line is tight 90 percent of the time but with rubber worms if you are working them slow there is alot of slack in the line at some point and your bass will sometimes pick them up when the line is slack so if you start to see your line make a run when the fish has picked it up let it run until the line gets tight before you set the hook

i have used shockwaves i dont like them the same for powerbelt i dont like them either.now i use a hornady copper jacketed hollow point nothing special but it gets the job done

i know alot of old timers that say when you can see the moon all day that the deer will be on there feet and moving all day. i never really paid much attention to it but from this year out i am going to keep a log of it and check it out for myself

red drum i think are just beautiful because most of them look alike but the black spots can be in diffrent places and there could be just 2 spots or i have caught them with 8-9 spots

virginia has tons of turkeys but not alot of people hunt them. i dont go out to hunt just turkey there is a time when deer season and turkey season overlap and i will take a turkey then but i dont hunt during spring turkey season but i have seen flocks of 50 plus out here and that is pretty common

the best things hunters can do is continue to hunt and let this people see that no matter how much protesting they do we will still continue to do what we love

i dont hunt on account of scrapes because you never know when the deer will be back to check them but you can up your odds by finding another bucks scrapes (best to go to another farm for that) and scoop some of the dirt and put it in a ziploc bag do your best to watch for scent and go put that dirt in the bucks scrapes he will think another buck is moving in and will sometimes comeback to that area more because he think he is being challenged

i love fishing but my passion is hunting by far for me it would have to be a whitetail but nothing freakishly big it could even be a slick head and i would be happy

i use to hunt with a club and they would run dogs all day in one spot and most of the time the clubs call off the hunt an hour or two before dark to skin the deer and find dogs well if i didnt kill one that day i would go still hunt the same spot they just ran and got a few deer that way i didnt get one evertime but i have killed deer in an area that was heavly run that day.deer get used to people and learn to deal with them thats why most of the hugh deer people find dead they never knew they were there those deer never come out until well after dark.

it is a good gun for squirrels but i would not go with a nice shiney scope squirrel are smart and see everything we hunt them by the river and after the first few days filling our bag limit the squirrel would hop the tree tops over the river so we came in made a bunch of noise and scared them across the river we got in the boat went across and filled our bag limit again

tips for tracking dont always look for blood you got to look for other things like leaves that have been russled around and fresh foot prints.its hard to tell where a deer will run after hit it depend on the deer and the lay or land and as far crossing over another hunters path or area he is hunting well thats just part of hunting it happens and they should understand that fact if they were to shoot one im sure they would track it pass you i know i would. after i shoot i do everything in my power to find it i cant tell you how many times i have got down to my skibbies and swam out to get a deer that ran in the water

i clean the deer as soon as possible the quicker the better and as far as what time to get in the stand i say 30 minutes before sunrise there is no need to get in a stand real early by the time you sit there for awhile you start to get treestand fatigue and when the sun starts to come up you start to move to get more comfotable

i would say my worst disappointment was the banjo minnow im talkin when they first came out i was like 13 or 14 years old i cut the neighbors grass and saved the money to order them and i didnt catch a single fish. but one thing i have ordered that lived up to what it said was the samurai shark knife sharpener thats thing works no more wet stones for me.

fingernail polish will work if you clear coat afterwards.just put alittle clear over the nail polish

we get the backhoe out and dig a big hole ever year we throw some plywood over the hole so one falls in and we throw the carcass in throw some lime on top then at the end of the year puch the dirt back into the hole

we dont hang any stands until opening day first thing in the morning then we go up the tree the deer never know you were there.here is tip for yall after its late in the season and deer are hard to find put stands right near a few select deer trails and make sure you leave yourself 1 or 2 trails with no stands hunt one those trals on the ground you placing the stands funnel the deer to the other trails

what we take off our deer are the back hams,front shoulders,tender loins,breakfest loins and the neck we dont mess with the ribs because they really aren't worth it.so we dont even gut em we skin em out take the fronts then the tender loins make 2 slits by the back hams in the gut bag then the guts will drop down take the breakfest loins out cut the spine by the back hams then cut the hams in half this works if you hang the deer by its back legs not the neck

we use to fish a number of farm ponds but there was this one in a field with cows not big at all you could cast across the whole the pond but you could pull bream out the size of your hand and bigger in one day we caught 36 bream 1 pound and bigger

ant time hunters are in the woods the deer will get nervous if your deer are like our deer when hunters are in the woods go back as deep as you can get hunt where other dont dream of hunting

its hard to tell you were to put your stand without see the lay of the land you wanna put your stand in a spot where the deer will be coming out and the wind in your favor without scout and putting stands up ahead of time or knowing right where you will put it opening morning depending on the wind all i can tell you is put it up in a good spot and be prepared to move it if need be

cut your meat 1/4 inch thick season with black pepper and garlic to taste i use about 4 tablespoons each for 2lbs of meat after seasoning put in ziploc bag let sit over night.soak wooden toothpicks in water for about 30 minutes put your meat on the toothpicks i put the meat threw the rack and let the toothpick sit on the rack so your meat is hanging i use cherry wood that i have soaked in jack daniels for about an hour low and slow is the key you want you temp about 200 open all the dampers up and let it go for 8 hours better then beef jerky in a bag thats for sure

yeah we got bog moccasins here in va when i was taking my hunters education class the first night of classes a guy that was teaching us worked as logger and most of his work was in the swamp he killed a moccasin that was hugh it strecthed across his tailgate and was hanging off on both sides its head was about 5-6 inches wide the guy told us it fell on his skidder and he shot it with his 22

i know people who use extra full chokes on there shotgun they still shoot fine but my gun i use a modi it hold the best pattern

i like to take whole fish and put them in my smoker i dont put any seasoning on them just cherry wood and hickory wood smoke the fish for about 4-6 hours depends on size and sometimes i will take and put apple juice in the drip pan

i use nothing but gerber they are the best knives i own i got a gerber gator with the rubber grip when i was 12 years old still have that knife and use it still to this day i love it so much i went and got it in a gut hook to

2 pellets=100 grains 3 pellets=150 grain with the bullets i use my gun shoots better with a 100 grains if you can use 150 grains in your gun try both which ever is more accurate go with that my buddy has a muzzleloader and his shoots better with 150 grains so it really depends on the gun just give both a try

i had a 597 after 1000 round its started to jam every other shells i gave the gun a total clean down took it out still would jam sent to remington they said it was fixed i got took it out the first shell it jammed on me i put in the box sent it back got my money and bought a marlin i love it

night fishing is great not matter if its saltwater or fresh we mainly fish from the bank we get out there about 5 or 6 in the evening and get back home around 8-9 in the morning we fish salwater mostly and we fill te coolers with crocker and spot and we catch some drums

you can kill a deer with a 22lr i dont recommend it but in a survial sitituation you can kill deer with a 22 around here during the summer farmers use crop damage stamp to thin the herd and they spotlight them a use 22's i saw a show one time and they said a 22 was a hitmans favorite gun because it has enough force to enter the skull but not enough to exit it

thats awesome one time when i was real young maybe 7 or 8 years old a guy would sell watermelons and he was having problems with people stealing his melons so he put a sign saying i have poisoned 10 watermelons in my patch so think when you are stealing my watermelons it may be your last.and you know what i think he was crazy enough to really do it but i got give it to him the melon theifs stopped

saltwater fishing is the best its just knowing you catch fish all sizes and alot more diffrent species than freshwater.dont get me wrong i love both

you can get this mixture called krazy salt you can soak it in there for a day or 2 but i have been eating it so long i dont soak it.

i like hunting on the ground i just kick out a spot and sit at the base of tree i dont buy blinds i take my knife and cut some small cider trees and small pine trees and just stick them up all around me

i would not add to my collection of guns but if you were stuck with just that gun you gotta make it work the biggest turn off as a tactical stand point is the clip i think you would have to de-shoulder the gun the put in a full clip

my biggest accomplishment is just hunting, getting out in woods and put the tricks of the trade my father taught me to good use.

we are starting to have a problem around here with coyotes i have seen videos of them attacking fawns but what we have the most problem with is the cows they are biting the tails off the baby cows

i caught my biggest catfish on a 8 inch live bream put a hook the threw the back of the bream and a bobber about 4 foot up i caught that fish in very shallow water you can also use chicken livers put them in small peice of panty hose wrap that around the chicken liver then tie it up run your hook threw and your set the panty hose lets the scent out but you wont cast off liver as much and as far as the depth i say it more about structure

im grandpa told me stories of them killing deer with a 22 back in the 30s and 40s he said his bother one shot a buck with a 22lr right at a hundred yards one shot dropped him with open sights none the less.i know a 22lr with a SSI bullet will pentrate 10 inches of ballistic gel at 60 yards

if you are hunting ragged island i believe (im not 100% sure)but i dont think you can use a muzzleloader and i know you cant use slugs.i have a charles daily dont care for that gun at all i take out my mossberg 835 with the oversized 10 gauge barrell

i see i started something let me clear this up im not saying im the best shot or you all are hunting wrong but to be completely honest with all of you im not to good at alot of things in this world but hunting and fishing is the one true thing that comes nautral to me i pride myself on the fact that i am a good hunter/fishermen

i like to start with the cleaning process right away with in an hour of the kill given the fact that our winters are usually not cold at all i have seen times in december were you hunt with shorts and a short sleeve shirt.

a guy we used to hunt with went to his stand and someone s**t right next to his stand but he still went up the tree he thought it was a pretty cruel joke we dont know who did it he said if found out he would get them back.put a whole new meaning to hunting whitetails dont it.

i dont think it would be fair to ask them not to hunt that could be the only place they have to hunt but you could ask them to help you manage the property and pass on those smaller bucks and take out the bucks that you dont want breeding when its comes to managing property it takes alot more than one person with a couple of buddies and also have to figure if the property is not all that big are the people next to you going to pass on the smaller deer

i would stand there without a doubt i know my buddy would take the shot and i am pretty confident he would make the shot. put it like this i trust him with my life.i have known him my whole life so trust like that doesn't come easy.

dont know the weight but its was 32 inches long caught him 2 days after striper season went out.

im not Mr.Perfect i have been drunk before the legal age but getting so drunk that u puke for hours is not having fun. i'm from the country there was one stop light for longest time so there is not much to do there.what did it for me i was at a party and i woke up on the road beside the field i hunt i didn't have a gun or anything i was only 16 had no clue how i got there and my car was still running i know what makes this the worst is i drove but after that night i was done with it. maybe once in a blue moon i might drink but only 1 or 2 and im at home.

sure there is an 8 gauge guys back in the day use to put 5 or 6 8 gauges off the front of row boat they would have them rigged to all go off at one time it was for duck hunting.you find a flock in the water and let em have it they used those after they stopped them from useing punt guns

here in virginia they do the same thing they allow you to go out at night (go figure night hunting) and spot light the deer they also allow you to use rifles that we are no allowed to use for hunting and harvest every doe you see they do not allow you to take bucks and do not allow you to take the meat you are suposed to leave it there.i have seen nice bucks takin off of crop damage stamps thats what they call them its a shame.

2 years ago my buddy shot a spike with a muzzleloader at 6-7 feet away no BS he said the deer jumped over the fence and quatered away from him the bullet went threw his back ham into the gut bag and out of the chest.it was almost dark and we use scopes he told me i had to barrell point it he said but i know i hit you could see where the deer hit the ground and started to kick around it was 6-7feet away i wouldn't believe if i didnt see it we found it 45 yards away in the woods the deer had more white on it than usual i'll see if knows where the pics are and post them

i would say i am a hunter because the only time i shoot is when i am hunting i dont go out and shoot paper during the summer i spend that time on the water so i am a hunter without a doubt.

i knew a guy one time he fell asleep in the woods he said when he opened his eyes he could have kissed the doe right on the snout we joked him and told him its was that god awful snoring she thought its was old buck gruntin at her,and also one time my mom was sitting at the base of pine and she had spike walk out right next to her she looked over and the deer looked right at her they both jumped the deer ran nto the field and she got it one shot

bluetick hounds are the best a bluetick will almost run up the tree and the coon for ya.

none of that stuff works as good as old fashion molasses poured on an old stump we are not allowed to bait deer during hunting season but we use it in summer to get pics.

i have watched that deer since last year and look forward to more updates on SUDDEN IMPACT but to me he is livestock once you put your hands on them and grow them they are livestock now thats just me.

the biggest i have ever seen was 15 pointer i was driving down the road about 1 in the morning when i caught a flash of brown out the corner of my eye i told buddy you wanna see a big buck he said yeah i knew he was big by the size of the body i backed into a drive and across the street there he stood 20 yards from us he sat the and grazed on sweet green grass for about 5 mins and then took his time and wondered off he was hugh big frames,dark rack an old swamp buck.i was excited because deer season was a week away and and he was about 800 yards from where i hunt but i never saw nor hide nor hair of him

mossberg 835 3 1/2 inch you can get an interchange able rifle barrell and lightfeild make 3 1/2 inch slugs

if i had to choose between the rattle bag or a grunt call i choose neither i would take my trusty doe in a can

we use spikes just like tree climbers do with the belt the spikes strapped to your feet then you dont have to worry about people getting in your stand unless they have spikes

with buckshot 50-60 yards with a slug out to 100 yards and i know because i have shot deer with a 410 for years now.you do wanna head shoot them with buckshot

12 gauge mossberg 835 the 3 1/2 inch is good for turkey and ducks and 2 3/4 for rabbit and squrrel

im a lefty and i shoot a right handed shotgun left handed in the heat of the moment you will not see the sheels eject out right infront of your face

any reason to get a new gun is never a bad reason but if you want to take what you got i would take the 30-30

at your age i recommend a pump. the good thing about a pump is it makes you get back on target but with semi-auto most of the time people pull the trigger as fast they can if i were you i would get a mossberg 500 shoots 2 3/4 and 3 inch stocks are pretty cheap so when you get older you can get full size stocks its an all around good gun

i think its all of the above. during deer seaon one year i saw tons of turkeys i said during spring gobbler season there mine but got a rude awakeing and i hunted HARD i put ever drop or sweat blood and tears into it but nothing in the woods but by dumb luck walking back to the truck there he stood about 75 yards out and having shot many rounds threw that gun i felt i could get him dropped down to 1 knee and let old MAD MAXX bark one time that 3 1/2 inch never does me worng needless to say i had turkey breast the next day sometimes being luck is better then being good

i live in virginia i we heard alot about it but we also have alot of hunters in the state. i even watched a tv show were they showed him prison and asked him some questions i think the show was (LOCKUP RAW) or something like that on MSNBC.im not defending anybody but its did seem like he was right in the head to me but it is truely a terrible thing to have happen to you or be involed in.

i have seen people go out there first year and kill a BIG buck but from there on out its like they lose there steam because they dont think they could ever top that deer and on the other hand i have seen people hunt there whole life and never get a nice buck but harvest many deer. for me its not about how many deer i get or how big it is its about being the woods and putting the skills my father gave me to good use. the way i look at it harvesting a deer is just a bonus
