I know I'm still young at age 17. But I read all these articles about how hunting is a dying sport because less and less young people are getting involved, so it's nice to see someone young getting into hunting. It reminds me of myself. I started at age 5 and now I'm just as addicted as my grandpa and his dad. It's a true way of life and I wouldn't give it up for anything.
Ducks are quick to find freshly flooded areas—and you should be, too.
1. Watch the water. Rising water levels mean freshly flooded food to ducks, and the birds are astonishingly quick to find it. To meet them there, check out waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/rt, where you can monitor the levels of rivers and creeks in all 50 states.
There is bird shooting, and then there is bird hunting. The former, in which pen-raised pheasants, quail, and chukars are released for the gunners, can be exciting, but it isn't a true sporting experience, no matter how well the stocked birds fly.
The Calm Before the Storm: A hunting party in Africa stalks a huge male lion and waits until the cat moves into a position for them to fire. Then the You-Know-What Hits the Fan: After the hunters shoot at the lion, it charges at a terrifying pace. The hunters get three more shots off, but none were enough to slow the cat down.
What was going through the camera man's mind when he was video taping the whole thing! That was the most intense thing I have ever seen. And seriously how did no one get shot.
A high-quality gun dog adds riches to your life. But a lot of pups for sale are genetically designed to be nice-looking nitwits that bring their owners nothing but frustration and embarrassment. So how can you tell the good from the bad?
This is a great article thank you for writing it. It brings up good points and I never thought about putting pups through so many tests to choose the right one. I just kinda figured a dog would be whatever you put into it, but I guess a dog that meets all these little tests would turn out better. Thanks again for your help!
