    Mine!
  • Peeing in your tree stand

When I was young (teenager) I used to walk away from my blind to wiz. One day my Dad asked me what the heck I was doing? and I told him. He just shook his head and said just go out of your blind, he did and he was one of the most successfull hunters I knew. He also smoked in the blind. Hunt using the wind, and it don't matter if you wear Oldspice, and eat Bar-B-Q in the stand.
  • So where is everybody from that visits this wonderful site?

West Tennessee,Live on the Tennessee river, Great Bass, Crappie, and Catfishing. Deer, Duck, Turkey, rabbit hunting right here in the same county, within a 7 mile circle from my home. Lived in CO. for years didn't get to hunt much, now all I can think about is going Elk hunting. within the next couple years I'll go, also Canada Fly-in fishing for them monster pike. Would also like to fish for Steelhead in upper MI
  • Treestand Thefts

I know what ya'll mean my brother who had to save up to buy a two man ladder stand so he could start his son deer hunting and be with him, set his up about two weeks ago on his land and showed up opening day and it was gone! He can't afford to go buy another one. I felt so sorry for him he was upset. I understand because I've had two taken in the past also. I just think some piece of crap stealing it when he works every day. it just burns me up.
  • Handguns

The fact that you have already been shooting 22's up to .45's you have already covered the lightest to the big boy of carry guns. The thing that I tell everyone when it comes to handguns is that they require a lot of practice. That being said you need to get something that you can afford to shoot a lot. I switched from the .40S&W to the .45ACP and then to 9mm. I can afford to shoot a lot more 9mm than anything else but a .22. The choice of revolver or auto is up to you and what you like the best. There are +&- for both. I myself would push more toward an auto, the revolver for a couple of reasons, carry guns get dirty with everything, but dust, lint and gun oil is a big killer and revolvers are wide open for dirt and grime, Highcap Magazine vs six shooter, and unlike the earlier posts I believe autos are easier to use and operate. My wife and I both Law Enforcement use and love Glocks, there are a lot to choose from but there is more Glocks used by Police than any other handgun. There is also a size Glock for everyone, in every caliber you can think of. Now that is what I carry and advise anyone to carry, with a Kahr a close second. Caliber is not as important with a handgun as hitting what you’re aiming a lot of times. I know this will ruffle feathers but people can look at the stats. If you were shot in the heart with a 9mm or a 45 you wouldn't know the difference. TV cop shows and westerns have made it so that most people believe you just shoot everyone once and they just drop dead with a handgun. (of course there are exceptions) The truth is that more people die from wounds from a stabbing than pistol wounds.( Memphis Trauma Center) The handgun just don’t do enough damage. What a Handgun is, is convenient, and concealable. I think of my handgun as something to fight my way to my rifle and or shotgun. But you can’t strap that to your leg or put it in your purse. By all means carry a handgun when you’re out , but at home plan on the shotgun. The most important thing of all is to get good self defense firearm training to learn how to fight with a handgun. Putting a paper plate at 25 yds and shooting at it might help you on a hog hunt, but it’s not really practical self-defense practice. Don’t be one of those people who buy a gun a box of practice ammo and a box of hollow points, and never learn to really use the gun, or handle it safely. Check out FBI crime statistics they release them for every year.
  • What is the best youth model Rifle with the best price.

A SKS is a real nice starter rifle for kids, they are short, have iron sights, but can be fitted with a scope,I have kept iron sights so my boys learn to be good with them, they can goto a scope later. If the youngin misses they are semi-auto so they have a follow up shot without having to worry about working a lever, or bolt. There are some good hunting loads for the 7.62x39 now I think they are 154 grain, and they kick less then the 30-30, and you can buy tons of the cheap ammo so your kids can practice all the time without braking the bank. The only thing I can think of as being a drawback is that it comes with a 10 rd fixed mag. that might be a problem in some states, but they are easy to switch out and there is alot of after market add on parts, you can get a synthetic stock pretty cheap. I went through Marlin 30-30's Bolt guns, and single shots, with my older kids, but my two youngest both have used the SKS the older of the two, one shot dropped a good 9pt at 75yds, and the youngest shot his first a three pt that went 30yds and dropped on the juv. hunt, and dropped a nice 8pt at 116yds in its tracks on the rifle opener, so its got plenty of power for whitetail. They were cheap but I don't know what they go for now. I got the idea from a friend who had his kids starting out with a AK-47, they have normal ironsites, they are short also and are easy for kids to handle, and he found some 5 rd mags for them to hunt with at a gun show, and 30 rd mags for home defence. They are a little more expensive then the SKS and the safety is loud and not as easy to use while aiming.
  • would you shoot an albino deer

You would get a big fat ticket in Tennessee for killing one!
  • hunter in my stand

This young man asked a bunch of people who's opinion he valued some questions, you had one chance to leave a good mark, and to help out someone who comes from a generation that has a who gives a crap attitude! I can see why they do! I can't spell and I have cases that have put people in prison for 20 years, and have stood up to appeals. We missed our chance here! I beleave that the advice was good, he shouldn't take it into his hands, he has parents who should take care of it. And everyone can always use more schooling even adults who can spell!
  • 44 Mag

I would get an Encore,(I don't know if thats how you spell it)you will have all the aforementioned, except it's a single shot. And you can by other barrels muzzleloader, shotgun, any rifle or pistol calibers, or even a pistolgrip and use it as a pistol in whatever cal. you want! And scope the barrels you want or leave Iron sites on the others. Just my .02
  • Murphy's Law Meets Deer Hunting

When I was maybe 14 I was bow hunting in Mich. and I didn't have a stand to use at the time, so I found a perfect natural one, a Pine tree uprooted and was leaning agenst another one. When you looked at it, it was a perfect ladder using the branches, right beside a heavy used Deer trail. I hunted all afternoon from my perfect stand, till it started to get dark. Just before I was going to climb down and head in for the night a lone Doe walked up from behind me which I could see from one side but had to set blindly waiting for what seemed like an hour for it to emerge from my perfect stands thick branches to take a shot. The Doe decided to bed down right under my stand! In my 14 yr old mind I decided that I would turn around and back down my branches holding my bow at the ready so I could draw and shoot as soon as I could see her. I turned around standing on two branches which promply broke and I slid down the tree braking branches all the way till I crashed and burned on my back on the root ball at the bottom. While walking in to our cabin I couldn't help but laugh thinking what that poor Doe thought when I came crashing down out of that tree!
