On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy devastated the New York and New Jersey coastlines. The storm hit just as the fall striped bass run was about to kick into full force, destroying hundreds of marinas, tackle shops, and beach access points in less than 24 hours. "Hook Shots" host Joe Cermele, as well as show regular Captain Eric Kerber, picked up video cameras the day after the storm and began documenting the chaos in their home state of New Jersey. What the footage ended up capturing was a coming together of anglers to help those in need who lost everything, and the long road to getting back on the water to reclaim the season Sandy took away.
How You Can Help: In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, several local New York and New Jersey organizations formed to aid storm victims, as well as to aid in rebuilding efforts all along the coast. If you're interested in donating, or live locally and want to volunteer your time, visit Restore Our Shore or Restore The Shore to find out how you can help. If you'd like to contribute and score some cool fishing attire in the process, visit BDOutdoors.com, our friends on the West Coast, who are selling a custom T-shirt (left) featuring the slogan "Rebuild & Fish" with all proceeds benefiting relief efforts.
