Included are a bottle of Magic Scrape, a specially blended weatherproof soil used for scent dispersal; a 4-ounce bottle of Dominant Buck Urine; new Primetime Lick ‘n Stik glandular scent; four pairs of vinyl field gloves; and an easy-to-follow instructional DVD that shows you how to make it happen._ $28; 319-395-0321; www.hunterspec.com_
2 scentBlocker 3D realLeaf jacket & pants
Some people think 3-D camo is a gimmick, but hunters who use the stuff love it. This new style comes in a lifelike leafy pattern with a removable ScentBlocker Plus S.P.F. 60 carbon liner system to seal in odor. The leaves are a tough, quiet vinyl, and the chest and inner arm panels are smooth to prevent bowstring snagging. Jacket, $180; pants, $150; 507-263-2885; www.robinsonoutdoors.com
3 Scent-Lok Savanna Coverall
What good is scent-control clothing if it makes you sweat buckets and produce even more stink? That’s what has happened to hunters wearing carbon scent-control garments in warmer temperatures. Then along came Scent-Lok’s ClimaFlex, which is 30 percent lighter than previous Scent-Lok fabrics. It’s the first early-season bowhunting clothing I’ve tried that doesn’t make me sweat. One very cool new garment is the Savanna Packable Coverall, which can be stored in the built-in zippered pack for long hikes in or out. It has a two-way front zipper, two patch chest pockets, a banded waist for a tailored fit, side-access slit pockets, slant front pockets, and rear patch pockets. It comes in sizes M¿¿¿3X in Mossy Oak New Break-Up and Advantage Timber. $190; 800-315-5799; www.scentlok.com
4 code blue standing estrous
A doe signals that she’s prepared to mate by way of scent in her urine. Code Blue Standing Estrous is from a doe that’s really ready: The scent is only harvested from an estrous doe after she has been observed “standing” for a test buck. That means the urine is from an animal that is willing to be bred, as opposed to simply “in estrus” like other estrous scents. All Code Blue urines are certified single-source products, not blended. Sure, it’s pricey, but so is a bottle of fine perfume. The supply is limited; once it’s gone for 2004, you can wait until next year. $37; 479-782-8971; www.codebluescents.com **5 Xtreme scents scent control system **
This new Scent Eliminator system consists of a number of elements that work in concert: The spray doesn’t mask but gets rid of odor-causing bacteria on the molecular level. Without fragrances or chemical residue, the concentrated, biodegradable Body & Hair Wash removes built-up B.O. The UV-free, unscented laundry detergent won’t fade camouflage patterns. And the disposable wipes are based on the same formula as the spray but can be used to swab down everything that can hold human scent, from bows and arrows to tree stands, tree steps, optics, and more. You’ll stink less than a ghost. $15; 810-220-9392; www.xtremescents.com
