The Johnny Morris baitcaster comes in two 6.2:1 high-speed models (one is a left-handed retrieve) and one with a slightly lower 5.1:1 ratio. An ergonomic joy, this one feels great nestled in your hand. Its magnesium frame is extraordinarily light, but don’t use it in brackish or salt water. Magnesium is notorious for corrosion, and though the frame is sealed before the final finish, nicks could cause problems. The spool is aluminum and ported for light weight and instant reaction to the anti-backlash controls, which consist of a four-shoe centrifugal brake and a magnetic brake with an accessible external control. The centrifugal brake is pre-set; you can’t adjust the brake shoes. This is a fast, accurate reel and it weighs an incredibly light 6.9 ounces.
