Nissan (www.nissanmarine.com; 972-323-6003) and Tohatsu (www.tohatsu.com; 972-323-6003) have four identical new offerings and are the fourth and fifth outboard companies to introduce two-cycle DFI engines. These are labeled TLDI (two-stroke low-pressure direct injection), available in two models, 50 and 90 horsepower. The 50 is the smallest outboard now available with DFI and, at 212 pounds, lighter than every four-stroke in its class except the Honda. The TLDI system is air-assisted for complete fuel atomization in the cylinders. Also new are two four-strokes, in 6 and 18 horsepower, which feature a shallow-water drive and an automatic rpm limiter if oil levels get too low in the sump. They come with an external fuel tank, F-N-R gearshift, and through-prop exhaust.
