This top attractor pattern is virtually unmatched in snatching trout from heavy currents, broken water, and bouldery pockets. The high-floating design and conspicuous white wings make it easy for both fish and fishermen to see. The Royal Wulff is typically regarded as a Western, fast-water fly, but it’s a superb pattern for prospecting Eastern waters, especially smaller mountain streams. And many anglers don’t realize that, in smaller sizes (say, #18), it can be deadly in flat, glassy water.
