Fishing Vacation

Coeur d'Alene

Anglers with the wherewithal to be rocket scientists have forfeited fortunes to raise their kids in northern Idaho. The fishing options are astronomical, and kids-natives and tourists alike-have little chance to be bored. Trout, northern pike, bass, and chinook salmon supply ample diversion. Weary rod arms can recover while families rent forest-fire lookouts, bike along rail-trails through tunnels and down mountain passes, or challenge sphincter function with a 103-foot roller-coaster plunge. Nearby forests also hold backcountry lakes, but it's not uncommon for hiking families to abandon fishing plans after losing track of time in a huckleberry patch. 877-782-9232; www.coeurdalene.org or www.fs.fed.us/ipnf.
