South and Quaboag lakes abut each other in Brookfield and have different but outstanding fisheries. South offers angling for trophy brown trout while Quaboag holds trophy northern pike and largemouth bass. The heavy browns (and stocked rainbows) are available from shore, mid-April into the early summer, or troll Shad Raps, Rat-L-Traps, Johnson spoons or live bait. On Quaboag Lake fish the mid-lake weed lines for double-digit pike with tube baits, jig-and-pigs, neutral-buoyancy minnowbaits or shiners. Try the shoreline weed beds for largemouths.
