By late March or April cobia pods have migrated to somewhere around Cape Canaveral and Daytona Beach. As air and water temperatures warm, cobia steadily move north off Matanzas Inlet, then St. Augustine, Mayport and Fernandina Beach. Cobia can be found almost anywhere within 10 miles of shore. Most large plugs and jigs work well on cobia. The fish have a preference for yellow or bright orange lures. Live bait is deadly. Contact: Capt. Don Dingman, St. Augustine and Mayport (904-276-1164).
