Lakes Fork, Ray Roberts and Sam Rayburn

O.H. Ivie Reservoir, near San Angelo, was opened in 1990, but being new has not prevented this 19,200-acre waterway from becoming a top-notch bass fishery. For example, last February the husband-and-wife team of Butch and Bobbie Gayle posted near-simultaneous entries into the state's ShareLunker program of 14.59 and 13.05 pounds respectively. Butch's 14-pound fish established a new O.H. Ivie lake record, which his wife held from 1997 to 1998 with a 12.75-pounder. Ivie features a mix of timber, grass cover, stock tanks and submerged buildings, bridges and roadbeds for your bassing pleasure. Summer is Carolina-rigging time on humps and deep points, and along the Colorado and Concho river channels. Buzzbaits are in vogue during the early and late topwater bite. Ivie is good most of the time. The standard "early-and-late" rule applies. Pop R's (regular and super size) and Baby Torpedoes are top-rated fall baits.
