Wisconsin Man Wins $15,000 For Being the Best Virtual Buck Hunter

You may hold the top score at your neighborhood bar, but Trevor Gartner of New Richmond, Wisconsin, is the 2013 Big Buck Hunter World Champion. He pumped and blasted his way to the title at the sixth-annual tournament in Chicago on Nov. 9.

According to this story from DNAinfo Chicago, Gartner beat out more than 60 top players from across the country, and one from Australia, for the $15,000 grand prize. Many of these fanatics of the iconic arcade game were returning tournament participants, who represent a mix of real-world hunters and those who exclusively take down big bucks on-screen in the game.

The competition was fierce, but friendly. One competitor was quoted as saying that the tournament is more about connecting with the community of gamers than about winning the prize money, and the whole group celebrated with drinks after Gartner's win.
