Tomorrow is National Hunting and Fishing Day, a nationwide celebration of the outdoor sports and the critical role that sportsmen play in conservation. Activities are planned across the country, including those sponsored by Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, the Izaak Walton League, and more.

The national holiday has been celebrated on the fourth Saturday of September since 1972 when, at the urging of the National Shooting Sports Foundation and others, President Nixon signed the first proclamation of National Hunting and Fishing Day, writing, “I urge all citizens to join with outdoor sportsmen in the wise use of our natural resources and in insuring their proper management for the benefit of future generations.” Wonders of Wildlife has spearheaded the program since 2005.
