Bergeron’s Restaurant in Port Allen, Louisiana, is offering a 10 percent discount to patrons who carry guns into the establishment. Owner Kevin Cox originally gave the discount to law enforcement officers, but when his other gun-carrying patrons started asking for the discount, he was happy to oblige. Cox believes having armed customers makes his restaurant a safer place.
A Huffington Post report mentions that some retailers and chain restaurants, including Chipotle, recently adopted no-gun policies when pressed by open-carry advocates. “So now you have a choice,” Cox says. “You’re going to go to Bergeron’s and cause trouble or you’re going to go to Chipotle and cause trouble. I don’t think they’re going [to] come here if they’re going to find good people carrying their guns.”
Bergeron’s business has increased since the new policy went into effect a few weeks ago. Cox estimates the restaurant gives the discount to 15 to 20 guests each day.
