When Mark Forino’s minivan collided with a moose on Sunday night, the 34-year-old man from Presque Isle, Maine, narrowly avoided being struck by the moose itself, as it crashed through the windshield and into the passenger compartment. No one else was in the vehicle.
Broken glass was flushed from Forino’s eyes at the scene on Route 163 near Ashland, but otherwise he was not injured, according to the Bangor Daily News. The moose did not survive. Photos taken by the Maine State Police show the animal’s body stretched from the dashboard to the last row of seats, its midsection wedged against a child’s car seat.
