Aurora, South Dakota angler Chase Jensen was ice fishing on Bitter Lake on March 7th, 2015 and was able to hoist out a 2-pound, 13-ounce yellow perch that beat the state record by two ounces.
A story from NBC affiliate KDLT says yellow perch are one of the most sought-after game fish in the state, and this year’s late ice conditions may have sent pre-spawn fish into a feeding frenzy.
The previous state perch record also came from Bitter Lake in 2004.
