There’s an old saying that if you love something, you set it free, and if it comes back, it’s yours. But does that apply to fish?

Angler Chris Ellenburg was likely asking himself that question after a recent encounter with a white bass at Lake Belton, Texas. According to, Ellenburg tried releasing the small fish, but it kept returning to his hand.

“He swam around me for a minute then between my feet. I reached down and he came up to my hand. Then he swam off about 10 feet then swam back. After he had done it three times, I said to myself ‘nobody will ever believe this.’ I was able to get out of the water, grab my phone and wade back in and he came right back to me and that’s when I started filming. It was the coolest experience I’ve ever had with a fish in my life.”
