Tomorrow Kirk and I embark on our industry’s yearly trade show in Orlando, Florida. It’s called the International Fly Tackle Dealer Show and it’s where we get to see all of the new products that will be unveiled to the public for fall 2014 and 2015.

As you can imagine we’ve been bombarded by press releases and information about tons of new stuff over the past couple weeks and will surely see more over the next couple days. I thought I’d give a little “sneak peek” about some of these products. A few we’ve seen and tested; some we have not. We’ll be updating you with more info to wet your whistle in the days and weeks to come as more information becomes available to us.

The info below is from the manufacturers themselves.

YETI Coolers The Hopper

YETI Coolers, the brand that launched the premium cooler category in 2008, will extend its commitment to creating durable, high quality products with the introduction of the portable Hopper cooler. YETI will debut the Hopper at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades in Orlando, Fla. on July 16.

“Our rotational-molded coolers are mostly intended to be stationary products,” says Roy Seiders, YETI founder and president. “We wanted to find a way to offer our fans and customers the performance they’ve come to expect from YETI—extreme durability and superior ice retention—in a product they can take with them to a broader range of environments and adventures.”

The Hopper has 6.5 gallons of capacity and is constructed of 840 denier DryHide fabric, similar to the material used in whitewater rafts. The HydroLok™ Zipper is the ultimate in waterproof, airtight zipper technology, borrowed from survival suits and HazMat protective gear. ColdCell™ Insulation provides a deep and lasting chill thanks to one inch of insulation in the sides and 1.5 inches on the bottom of the Hopper. The heavy-duty EVA foam bottom and RF-welded seams provide waterproof construction and unmatched durability.

The YETI Hopper will be available at select retailers and online at on Oct. 1, 2014. YETI will display the Hopper during the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST), July 16-18 in Orlando, Florida, and the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, August 6-9 in Salt Lake City. MSRP $299.99

When used with a fishing rod, cameras can be mounted on the top or bottom of the grip for diverse capture angles.

Costa 580P Mirror Lenses

Daytona Beach, Fla. – July 9, 2014 – Costa Sunglasses will debut its newest technology, the 580P mirror lens, at the International Convention of Allied Sportfishing Trades (ICAST) event in Orlando, July 15 – 18. Until now, Costa’s patented 580 mirror lens was only available in glass. Now, anglers will have the choice of 580 mirror lenses in either Costa’s hard coated glass, or its super lightweight, impact resistant polycarbonate material. Additionally, Costa offers its 580P mirror lens with prescriptions, made of Trivex® plastic.

Costa’s 580 lenses block yellow light – the harshest light – from entering the eye at the 580 nanometer on the light spectrum. The result is an unmatched level of polarization and razor sharp color enhancement. The lenses feature a premium anti-reflective coating, and protect against harmful UV rays, allowing eyes to truly relax while on the water.

Costa’s 580P mirrors feature the brand’s C-WALL™ technology, a highly specialized oleophobic and hydrophobic coating which repels oil, water and dust. The lens color options include the blue mirror (on a gray base), and the green and silver mirror (both on a copper base). All of Costa’s 580 mirror lenses block light at a slightly higher transmission rate than non-mirror lenses, providing an extra layer of protection from the sun’s damaging glare.

“For serious anglers, Costa’s 580 lens technology is a necessary piece of gear to help spot fish faster and more clearly,” said Chas MacDonald, president at Costa. “Our full range of lens colors, including the new 580P mirrors, allow anglers to customize their sunglasses to their fishing conditions, taking their visual experience on the water to the next level.”

The new 580P mirror lenses will be available starting in Fall 2014, in 14 of Costa’s performance sunglass styles, including popular selections such as Fantail, Corbina and Hamlin. Prices will vary depending on the style, and will start at $179.
